Clean, comfortable place, ideally located if arriving Canterbury West train station, not far from the cathedral and a ~20 minute walk to Canterbury East if taking a train down to Dover. Those were my basic criteria. The upstairs room #4 was fine for me, though headroom is limited, especially in the bath. I'd be wary if I was taller (and probably if I was more picky. There is also no place to sit comfortably--I'd suggest getting rid of the wardrobe or dresser to make room for a chair, but maybe that's just me. I reversed the bedding to leave myself some headroom for getting in and out of bed. The stairs are a bit of a challenge for folks with metal joints like me, but nothing insurmountable. The second floor room #2 had plenty of headroom and was generally more comfortable, though not quite as "charming." The owner (or manager) and the breakfast staff were supportive and responsive (the former mainly via WhatsApp). Breakfast was standout, as were the access instructions emailed in advance. I ate dinner at the Mexican place and the Italian restaurant run by the same owner--both were outstanding, at least by my standards. Lots of convenience store options close by.

This is a great location in a quiet street very near the railway station and city centre. The Inn used to be a pub so has the character of one. Pillows, towels and sheets were all top quality. Breakfast was a surprise and plentiful with variety both continental and cooked.

The 'small double' applied to both the room and the bed. Both manageable, but we would have preferred a larger bed. We would also have preferred an earlier check-in time but we were messaged when the room was ready so we did check-in as soon as we could.

Brilliant location just a 5 minute walk to centre and in a lovely quiet back water. We had room 1 with private patio which we really appreciated with the wonderful weather. All the staff were really friendly and the room was spotless. Would definitely stay here again. A useful tip you can park for a few days at a reasonable rate on the large Sainsbury's car park. Just download parking app.

Parking can work out expensive. The outdoor furniture could do with being replaced.

The place is very convenient. The room is tiny but clean. The staff are very friendly. Wifi is good. The environment is quiet and helpful for sleeping. The breakfast is very good.

Our room (2 single beds) is on the top floor, so we need to climb narrow and steep stairs, which is not very friendly for the olde people. I only found one outlet in the room, which isn't very enough for using. Probably taking an extra power strip is a good idea. The introduction of using shower head should be included in the introduction email of the hotel...we struggled with it in the first night and failed... No window hood outside the windows of this room I think. So keep closing the windows when it's raining, otherwise there will be water on window ledges.

The inn was very quaint and clean, our room was tidy and the bathroom clean. The breakfast was nice and the staff were very helpful, cheerful, and kind. A very short walk into town and near the train station. Would stay at the inn again :))

The only issue was the bathroom sink was only giving extremely hot water no matter the setting. also the room was at the very top which unfortunately meant the ceiling was very sloped and low, not particularly an issue unless you are quite tall like us, other rooms seemed large and spacious so just something to keep in mind if you are tall and get room 4

The Black Horse Inn was a good location to explore Canterbury. It is only a short walk from the Inn to the city centre, which traverses a lovely park. The breakfast was of good quality and there were plenty choices. The room was spacious enough and the bathroom was very clean. As it is located outside of the city centre in a pleasant neighborhood, it was also quiet at night.

The Inn was quite impersonal - the people who serve the breakfast are very friendly, but they are staff varying each day. During the day, there are no owners or staff present (as far as we could see). Additionally, the windows of our room could not get properly locked, which made us hesitant about leaving our belongings in the room.

Clean and comfortable, and very tasty breakfasts. Nice view from the attic room where I stayed, and a convenient set-up, with a mini-fridge and well-stocked tea/coffee selection. Convenient location as well.

It was really difficult to get cold water out of my tap. For some reason, it took a lot of fiddling, and is burning hot if you're not careful. The outlets were placed in the wall the beds were up against, so you have to pull out the mattresses to access them

I have a visual impairment and found the staff to be very accommodating and friendly. They spoke to me in advance before I came to discuss my accessibility needs, and were very helpful on my arrival and departure. The room was good with great facilities, and very comfortable. Would highly recommend.

As the room was an attic room there were low ceilings that I kept banging my head on. I’m not sure the water system was working properly, because the mixer tap ran hot for ages even though it was set to cold.

Easy to check in. Instructions easy to follow and straight forward. Room a little small but excellent - bed very comfortable. Shower a little small for me, but the power and temperature were fantastic. Breakfast was exceptional. Full English was cooked to perfection and the continental was brilliant. They even had my tea (I only drink Earl Grey and most places don't offer it!).

The whole experience from booking to leaving was very good indeed. No lack of communication whatsoever and any queries answered immediately. Great location, Canterbury is great to look around , free parking on street close to or even outside if you can work around the restrictions and permit times. Easy process to follow on getting the key. Would stay again.
