Hotel B&B Stossplatz was a wonderful place to stay in Appenzell. It’s located right near the train station so was easy to find when I arrived, and check-in was straightforward and quick. The rooms are clean, spacious, and the bed was comfy. I was so grateful that they served a fresh, varied breakfast so I could eat a big meal before going out hiking for the day! And the hosts were so kind and friendly; they chatted with me about hiking routes and were knowledgeable and enthusiastic about Appenzell. Also, they had free laundry machines in the basement and provided laundry detergent — which was so helpful as I was traveling on a long trip and didn’t often have access to laundry.

Super comfortable location, Monica was great in taking care of everyone. Breakfast is amazing with a wide choice of salty and sweet, fresh bread every day. The atmosphere is very familiar. Just 2 minutes from the train station - great if you stay here to hike around. But also, 7min walking distance to the city center. Lovely stay, very quite despite the closeness to the train station (you don't hear a thing). Comfy bed while the pillow is the classic huge and structureless that hotels love so much.

While not being a major setback, light condition could be improved in the room. There is only one source in the center of the ceiling, and nothing on top of the sink. Same goes for the shared bathroom. No deal breaker - but nice to have. The shared bathroom which served my room is not the one in the photos, but older and with a bathtub. The adv should be adjusted to reflect it - it disappointed be me a bit.

Monica, the host was warm, friendly and informative. I felt at home the moment I met her. Breakfast was a good spread, the hotel was clean and at a great location, very near to the train station. I was sharing the bathroom with 2 other rooms, but felt like it was my own bathroom! Coffee, tea and fruits were available at all hours to guests and one can even heat up one's food in the microwave provided. They were a bonus. My room was neat and clean.

My room was right above the outdoor dining seating area. At night, guests were seated outside till late, chatting away and smoking, and it disturbed my sleep. Recommend to ask for rooms that are not facing the outdoor seating area. Bed mattress was a bit soft for me, but it didn't matter as I was tired out at the end of the day, and it didn't affect my sleep!

Wonderful staff - very friendly and speak multiple languages. SUPER CLOSE to the train station, yet still quiet. (We slept with windows open and the trains never woke us up, and I'm the type that wakes up easily.) You check in at a little machine opposite the front door. It gives you your keys after you enter your information. There's a washing machine and dryer in the basement floor for guest use, free of charge, and they provide the detergent too. I'd suggest using the quick wash option for about a 30 min wash. Other selections take from 1.5 to over 3hrs. Learned that the hard way. Breakfast had a lot of great variety and you could also order fresh eggs made to your liking. Very clean in the rooms and everywhere. Pretty view of the green hillside out our bedroom window. No AC but for our time of year, it wasn't missed. Other nice features: black out shade; lots of shelves for easy storage in the room; small table and 2 chairs in the room. Beds were very comfortable - we prefer slightly soft but still supportive and that's what they were. (Too often, we find beds in Europe are extra firm...so happy these were not!) Pillows were down-filled, so they basically squished down to nothing. We'd prefer something thicker, but it was fine for 3 nights. Maybe they had other options, we never asked. Bathroom was small but that's normal here. Shower also small, with a fabric curtain. If you stay 3 nights in the Appenzell region, your hotel will issue you a special card and it comes with all sorts of awesome discounts, free gifts, and free transportation. Food nearby we loved - Donner Kebab. We got the kebab with everything and a side of fries 2 nights in a row because it was so good and a great price too. Highly recommend! If we ever go back, we'd stay here again. Rating 9/10 because I only rate 10's for places that blow me away. This place was still great!!!

A small hotel run by the owner who took care of all. Of course Swiss hospitality is superb. The breakfast was more than plenty with surrounding that I felt like eating at home. The hotel was near the train station but no noise disturbed me at all during those 7-night stay.

The room rate was a bit high but of course with Swiss high cost of living which I could understood. Overall I was happy to stay here.

Lovely and friendly host that brightens up the start of my day, with delicious and surprising breakfast selection! Location is very close to train station, I can get out of my room 5 minutes before and be at the train before it goes. Staying three nights give me the advantages of Appenzeller Holiday Card. Enjoying all my hikes for sure! During my stay, I overheard people extending their stays at this hotel. Considering all the positive experience, I can totally see why. If I were to be back, I will definitely stay here again. Definitely recommend!

Location - I loved the convenience of staying a minute from the train station Breakfast - it's a proper full breakfast to start your day Host/owner - accommodating, friendly and helpful :) Safety - only guests with key can enter the front entrance to access lounge and cafe area. Single room with shared bathroom - bathroom is shared between the 3 single rooms only. It was super clean! Appenzel ticket - free public transportation and perks included if you stay 3 nights or more. This was so useful!! I loved how even a few cable cars are included

Lovely quaint little B&B in Appenzell. Quiet and conveniently located. The hosts were very nice and were hospitable at breakfast - making you eggs at your request! Checking in and out was smooth and easily done via the machine outside the building.

It was a very basic room with a shared shower/bath across the hall. However, I thought it was good value. Shower was very hot and powerful. Very clean. Towels changed when you wanted. Great location, only 10 minute walk from the village centre. Very convenient to train station for connections to other nearby regions. Manager was extremely kind and helpful. Great choices for a continental breakfast, and she would cook an egg any way you liked. Nice lounge, free access to tea and coffee and hot chocolate all day long. Very comfortable. Good security.

Next time I might spend the extra and get an en-suite bathroom. The room could use a bit more storage. However, it is no frills for a no frills price. And bathroom, though across the hall, was very nice. I would stay there again.

INCREDIBLE STAY! The hosts were extremely welcoming, kind and helpful. Immaculately clean and comfortable accommodation. A beautifully decorated seating area downstairs where they serve the most delicious breakfast!! In close proximity to many beautiful hikes. Many other good benefits of staying here. Cannot reccommend enough. Looking forward to visiting again, thank you so much!
