Like an idealised Meiji Restoration, it feels like this hotel manages to combine the best of Japan and the best of the West. The room was modern and stylish, but also practical and spacious. The rooms with private onsen do cost a little bit more, but can strongly recommend, as being able to soak in your own onsen at one of the top floors of the high-rise, whilst looking out unto the ocean below (and the sunset), is a spectacular way to end a day. Excellent service by the staff (who are surprisingly capable at English, so fret not if you are not fluent in Japanese), and in addition to all the usual things you can expect at a good Japanese onsen hotel, you also get a few Western features rarely ever seen in Japan (e.g. room service - did not try this myself, but the fact that the option exists is worth mentioning). For the price, no doubt a 10/10.

Nothing really - if you pay several hundred more USD/GBP per night, you might score something better, but at this price, and at this location, you really cannot get anything better. Worth mentioning though that the WiFi worked perfectly fine (I could connect on the first try), as this is otherwise something of a known issue at Marriott institutions around the world (I still remember a Marriott in the Americas where I struggled to connect for days), so very much the absence of something that is otherwise frequently a problem at this hotel chain - well done again!

Staff was very attentive and helpful, in particular the Jolve spa staff and one of the front desk staff, who helped out on an emergency. The location is convenient (it is on a hill, but def doable), wellness is pricy but amazing.

The pool area is smaller than expected, and only limited beds for size of hotel (and people reserving them with towels unfortunately…), some tables and chairs but less comfortable. If you are with more than 2 persons then you get futon beds for the rest but these mattresses (too) thin (but again staff stepped up and provided us with double mattresses!).

Nice property, though some parts aren't very new, it's still well-maintained. The onsen is beautiful and just a short walk from the main (free) beach. The pool, unfortunately, is in the shade for half the day and always pretty crowded. As a Italian, I prefer the sea, but since I'm reviewing it's fair to mention it.

The price is too high for what’s offered. In Japan, even less expensive places maintain high standards, but here the pricing seems more about targeting a certain clientele rather than reflecting the actual value. If you’re paying rates similar to a good hotel in Tokyo, you expect more, few examples: - No shuttle service from the station: while it’s fine to arrange a taxi or give advice on which bus to take, a hotel of this caliber should have a shuttle for a station just 10 minutes away. - No beach umbrellas provided: in a beachfront hotel, you shouldn’t have to figure out your own beach gear. Sure, these things are manageable, but you wouldn’t expect these issues from a hotel like this. In summary, the hotel is decent, but at these prices, you should get more.

Location was perfect, close proximity to the beach, convenience stores and local restaurants. We booked an ocean view twin futon room which was ideal for us and our 3 toddlers. The facilities were nice and clean and the staff were very friendly and provided excellent service. Amenity kits for our kids were provided in our rooms upon arrival. Free hotel parking. Not many hotels that I’ve stayed in Japan have room service but this one did until 10pm. The breakfast was very good, lots of western choices and a variety of options.

The fact that there weren’t any amenity kits inside the room already, they had an amenity cart in the main foyer to collect from.

Onsen on top level was wonderful. It can overlook the whole area including the sea. Breakfast buffet is valuable with decent amount of food, and provide coffee and tea for takeaway. The japanese style room is spacious for 3 people, with a good mix of traditional japanese interior and modern bathroom style. There is very sufficient amount of car space available and is free of charge.

I wish i was given a higher level room for a better and clearer ocean view. The room i was given was on level 4, which is the lowest level of all hotel rooms, thus part of the ocean was blocked by the buildings and trees in front. I booked the room with halfboard package on booking.com . The dinner was ok, western fine dining style. However it would be good if the dinner can mix with Japanese style (I saw some other tables are having Shabu Shabu) and if guests can be given a choice of menu.

Nice hotel with very spacious rooms. The staff was very caring and took good care of us given that it was our honeymoon. It seems to be a family hotel so there are a lot of kids, specially in the pool. The hotel has a private onsen service that I particularly recommend.

Not exactly things that we didn’t like, but some attentions. Breakfast is not included in the basic price and we have paid for the days we wanted, but it’s not impressive. Specially given the price per person. Some other services offered by the hotel as dining and spa are quite expensive, but we never tried it off as there are many good restaurants and SPA on a short walk from the hotel.

This hotel is the perfect choice for a trip to Shirahama. It's a bit of an uphill walk to get to it from the beach, but I would say that's minor. In fact, I can only say that writing this review takes me back to fantastic memories in the property near the beach. The rooms are spacious too so in our break from Tokyo and other parts of Japan this hotel really made us feel as though we had travelled to an island destination.

My only comment is a bit of laziness from my end because of the excessive walking around Japan, and that is that the hotel is a slight uphill walk from the beach. It's not bad at all to be very frank, but it's there. Besides that there's not much to criticize here.

The location was fantastic. We had the traditional Japanese rooms and they we very spacious and lovely rooms. the breakfast had a big selection and was very good

I did not like the 2 class system that Mariott Executive members had a separate area and could irder things in the menu other could not. The service was extremely slow and not very attentive … One was finished with the your drink before receiving rhe snacks that were order at the same time The buffet dinner is far to expensive for what you get. I did not like that the floor that the kids were in had a strong smell if smoke because of the smoking room…

We loved the location, well elevated and back from the beach and main road so you do have to walk an inclined road to the hotel but that’s what made it that more special for us. All hotels in the area are older and Marriott does it in class was just beautiful and the hotel was great! Well maintained and there is a special feeling about the place. Oceanviews and family suite was again great. Breakfast was awesome and highly recommended. Staff are very helpful and accommodating felt very welcomed would definitely come back again.

TV had no streaming/casting/wifi so couldn’t watch “Netflix’s” when having some down time.

Lovely hotel within steps to Shirahama Beach. We got the room with the onsen and view and it was worth every penny. The hotel and room was very modern, clean, and spacious. There’s a nice spa on the 11th floor with inside/outside view. There’s also a lounge with view of the beach where you can watch the fireworks. I believe the fireworks is every Saturday. All the staff was pleasant. Breakfast buffet was limited but good. There’s not much to do in the area so I wouldn’t recommend more than 3 days unless you intend to go around Wakayama area.
