The room was very charming, cosy, and clean. There were a lot of nice touches like an espresso machine, earplugs, and a little bag of local candy. Great location! In the summer I can imagine it is quite noisy with the nearby restaurants and bars, which is probably why they provide earplugs. I was glad I didn't bring much luggage, because my room was up three flights of steep stairs. The bathroom was a bit chilly because it has ventilation but no source of heat. I learned to keep the bathroom door open to let the room heat in. The unlocking of rooms by internet was a little confusing at first and potentially problematic—what if you run out of battery or lose your phone or are traveling from outside the EU and have to pay roaming charges?—but worked fine for me in the end.

Walking distance from the station (~1km). Good price. Room had everything needed for short stay. Clean. The bathroom offers nice soap and lotion. Clean towels. Quiet location. Bars and restaurants are literally a few steps away if needed. Supermarket across the street.

Never met the staff. Granted that digital keys make the experience functional but also impersonal. The toilet seems to have a leak as it sounded charging water all night long. Maybe something to check. The twin beds can be tied up with stripes to avoid that they separate while one rolls asleep. An additional electricity socket is needed. At night, you either put the lamps and tv or charge the phones. Manageable but puzzling.

Although this was a very good location and close to the old city center, it was a very noisy place. It was a very warm evening and so the outdoor patios around the hotel were very busy until quite late. The hotel did, however, provide ear plugs. Coffee in the room was very good. Not sure we liked the electronic keys. One of the waitresses was very good about helping us understand the lack of check-in staff and the electronic key. The bar below the hotel was very old and had a lot of character.

Quieter place. Lower price given the noise factor and that there was not staff as such.

Breakfast was good, the character great. That there was a restaurant downstairs was excellent

Sound proofing, we could hear some pass wind, talk and snore. TV never got started, despite everyday someone trying to get it going. When it finally went on the last day, it just went back into no man zone. Smokers were bad, and twice we had to vacate dinning room when a couple came in smelling of the foulest smoke smell. Know you can't do much about that, but it reduced satisfaction.

Very old hotel, refurbished building. Tons of character. Expected to be visited by the resident ghosts during my stay. OK, basic breakfast. Located on the pedestrian plaza, with many restaurants, cafes and pubs to choose from. Access is by a computerized system with a code sent by e-mail. No hotel staff on site, but restaurant staff in building are helpful. Friday Market on the pedestrian mall is great.

Located about 25 minutes walk from train station. Computerized system is confusing at first, but works once familiar with it. No elevator, and creaky floors…but hey, didn’t I say it has tons of character?

Hanze hotel is located in the city centre within walking distance of the train station as well as all shops, restaurants and bars etc. Check in was ok - the room was nice and clean. Even though it was in the city centre we didn't experience a lot of noise which was great. We were there on a Wednesday in July which is a popular day/night as it is Zwolle's Blauw Vinger Dag. We didn't know about that but it was fun; lots of market stalls, bands singing and performing etc. The weather was fab too. I would recommend.

There was an problem with the internet/wifi etc which was not the hotel's fault as it was a network issue but the staff tried thir best to deal with it. Thanks Joey (hope your broken arm is healing ok)

Excellent location with restaurants, shops, market and bars,, clean room, helpful staff, good shower, room facilities including mini fridge

2 out of the 3 times we stayed, the keycard app didn't work; we had to get a physical keycard from the restaurant staff below; despite the same price, our room was bigger and better the first time.

Found it odd that whilst having breakfast a cat came and walked across the tables whilst we were eating Also not sure how you would enter property or room without a smart phone as all the doors are activated on your phone Steep narrow stairs can be a bit of a hassle with a large suitcase

Check-in is all contactless by phone, but it worked. In the middle of town. Breakfast was great.

If you have limited data connection on your foreign phone, then checking in and getting the key could be a problem. Being above bar/ restaurant could give noice issues as there is no air-conditioning you have to sleep with window open.
