The location of the hotel right by the sea is very beautiful. The room was very spacious and comfortably furnished. The breakfast buffet was fantastic and left nothing to be desired. Guest relations were very helpful, and I especially enjoyed the meditation session. Also activities like ping pong and badminton were a lot of fun, and the cultural show in the evening was a wonderful experience.

The bathroom door didn’t close properly, and it would be great if the wall between the shower and toilet were fully sealed to prevent water from flowing into the toilet area.

We had an amazing stay at Hotel Welgama in Sri Lanka! The hotel design is stunning, with all rooms offering beautiful sea views, which made our experience even more relaxing and memorable. The atmosphere was peaceful, and the overall comfort of the place really stood out. Our room was spacious and cozy, but one small issue was the fridge, which made quite a bit of noise at night. Unfortunately, the hotel was fully booked due to a wedding, so we couldn’t change rooms—but it didn’t take away too much from our overall enjoyment. The staff at the restaurant and bar were excellent—super friendly and always ready to help with a smile. Their service really added to the experience. The reception staff were okay, but not as warm or engaging as the restaurant team. The location is perfect, the beach is amazing All in all, it was a very enjoyable stay and we would happily come back, especially for the incredible views and relaxing vibe. They put us a cake for our anniversary that was amazing

The noisy fridge

Convenient location, nice facilities apart from on oddly shallow pool, however the Ocean is on your doorstep. All the staff and front desk managers very helpful. Evening bar staff delightful and provided great service. Breakfast staff spot on also. Unfortunate usual large hotel sun lounger hoggers, over 50% of the beds were normally occupied by a towel or book. Also sad to see some absolute 🐷 at breakfast with whole platters of food enough for ten people not just the two of them gluttonous behaviour is so distasteful. Good food though. The roof top is screaming out for a bar or something it seems a waste. You won’t be dissatisfied.

Roof space seems wasted

Lochana from guest experience team was very helpful and fantastic service always available when we had questions. The rooms and the view were exceptional.

Comparing it with other 5 star hotels, the buffet didn't meet our expectations. Not enough choices. But appreciate the surprise birthday cake that I requested and songs from staff. Very thoughtful and great service. We ordered 3 rooms of the same size for 2 people each which was great, and a larger room for 2 adults and 2 kids but the larger room was exactly the same size as the 2 person room we got. Only difference was they gave beddings for the small sofa bed.

Very nice hotel infrastructure, directly located at the beach. Very good for surf vacation. The buffet in the morning was really nice and favoured Indian, Sri Lankan and Western food options which also was nice that you did not need to eat the same thing every day. Also the location of the hotel was pretty amazing. We had a Ocean View room and it was simply amazing, looking at the sea from the 8th floor every morning. Also the beds were super amazing and comfortable. Also the hotel is surrounded by a number of good restaurants.

The snack buffet at the pool could include some more varieties - it's a lot of fatty food with almost no vegatarian options. Also we our room included a mini bar refill every day which was rather disappointing: the minibar contained of only a can of Fanta and 3 types of snacks. I'd rather would have expected to get some more drink options (e.g. a sparkling water, coke, beer). As well, from a pricing perspective the drink/food in the hotel was rather expensive compared to the price levels outside of the hotel facilities (e.g. a beer was 3x the price what you normally pay).

Our room was amazing, on a high floor and overlooking Weligama beach. It was large, very clean and since it was our honeymoon the staff left a 'happy honeymoon' message in petals on the bed. They also left us a complimentary chocolate cake. The hotel was perfect to immerse ourselves on the beach for a couple of days. I also love that they use their space on the ground floor to show artwork for sale by local artists - it was the only hotel we stayed in that did this!

The staff was amazing except for one chef who was visibly annoyed when our waiter told him I could not have butter and therefore had to send back my plate of pesto pasta (which unexpectedly had cream added into it). They staff were kind enough to offer me a new dish with only the pesto, no cream, which I appreciated. The hotel also has a $250 limit on 'incidentals' which if exceeded, they send you a note asking to settle the bill immediately instead of waiting until check out.

we liked the accomodation and the rooms and the staff where very good

1. The dinner buffet had a very limited selection, especially for children. The menu was primarily Indian-oriented, and it would have been better to include a broader range of continental options. 2. The Kids Club has a great concept, but it needs improvement in promoting its schedule and better communication to encourage more participation. Many activities were frequently canceled due to low attendance, which could be avoided with better outreach and engagement.

Breakfast was good. Dinner at the high end restaurant was very good For the dinner buffet, I had expected more Sri Lankan dishes rather than the usual hoppers and milk rice etc. I am sure there are a variety of local dishes. Was looking forward to such a buffet. The room was very nice. However, it would be good to make the room and hotel a little brighter as it was quite dim in many places...do not have to be too bright. In the room, where the safe was, I could not see as there was no light and when opening the cupboard door, it blocked it the light. Had to use my phone torch.

Nothing really

The room was fantastic and very clean. We enjoyed the view from the 8th floor and experiencing the sunset every evening was an amazing feeling. Breakfast was divine, the choices of dishes was spot on and we had a different cuisine each day. Sri Lankan hoppers and fish curry was my favorite. I want to take this opportunity to say massive thank you 2 staff. Nishadi Gunawardena who checked on us everyday to make sure we were happy. Honestly we were more than happy! Also Asanka the Bar manager near the lobby, he was exceptional in his service. we enjoyed going to the bar every evening cos of him before dinner.

We had a nice welcome upon checking in, and the instructions given by the front desk were very clear. We also had our own guest relations officer which was a nice touch. The breakfast buffet was pretty awesome, I loved the selection of curries to go with the Sri Lankan breakfast items, and they even had rice congee which was a first on our trip for us. The room was veryyy comfortable and the bed was perfectly firm. There was a slight problem with the blinds in the room when we checked in, but they got it fixed within 15 minutes. I used the gym in the morning and was pleasantly surprised to find barbells available which is great. The equipment is well kept and there is a good variety of machines available. The location of the hotel is perfect if you plan to do some surfing, it's easy to find a surf school just on weligama beach, steps away from the hotel. We used the spa on our last morning there and I had a good experience with the therapist and the booking of the spa session was also very seamless. Overall it was a great experience from all touch points, from the check in, to the in room service, restaurant, gym, spa, and also at check out. It's a five star hotel so of course it's going to be expensive, but worth the price if you want to have a relaxing holiday by the beach.

The lifts had a power outage at some point and we were stuck for just a minute before the doors opened. We took the stairs after that to be safe. Not a huge issue since no one was hurt but definitely unexpected.
