Sen-no-Mori exceeded our expectations. We had a warm welcome and received assistance with our luggage, then the journey began. We were led down a stone path into a lush, green forest - a stunning setting for the entire residence. Our villa was tucked in furthest away from the main road/entrance and was very private. The interior was well-appointed, clean and evoked a rustic sense of luxury. The surrounds were beautiful and the floor to ceiling windows in the sitting area framed the boreal landscape perfectly. Meals were excellent and were kaiseki style - served course by course in a private dining room. The food was high quality and delicious, and they made special arrangements for our 1.5 y.o. daughter. Most importantly, our hosts were very helpful and frequently went out of their way to provide us with a comfortable stay. The whole experience felt very personal and bespoke, and differentiated Sen-no-Mori from larger hotels/ryokans where service is more perfunctory. After check out, I realised I left our valuables in the safety deposit box in the room, and our host was kind enough to hold the items for us till we returned a few hours later, with all the graciousness we had come to receive throughout our stay. Overall, we highly recommend staying at Sen-no-Mori for a unique and relaxing experience.

Given the forest setting, the villas were a bit of a walk from the main dining area, which could be an issue should it rain. It rained while we were here, but thankfully our hosts provided us with umbrellas and when it was particularly heavy, picked us from our villa and dropped us back.

The location is beautiful and the rooms and facilities are of a very high standard. The owners are a family who have taken great care to provide excellent hospitality and incredible food for their guests.

This place is stunning - the rooms are beautiful - set in the woods with streams running through them. The food was outstanding too - would highly recommend a stay here

The setting is amazing, both our suites had private onsen and sauna in the rooms with a spectacular view of the surrounding wood Dinner and breakfast were delicious and presented with astonishing attention to detail. The staff was super nice and always available to help!

Very nice place in the forest. There are only three suites, and the privacy is very good. Dinner and breakfast is great. First time to try horse meat very delicious. Excellent service.
