While I am not old enough to have experienced classic roadside motels as portrayed in popular media this motel definitely feels like one. Pulling up it looks like a rustic old motel. If you enjoy more modern style hotels this may not be the location for you. If you want more than camping and enjoy simplicity this is the place. The staff was friendly and the property is condensed, which is nice for parking and getting to your room. The room is simple and nice with mini-fridge, microwave, coffee pot with plenty of coffee, and a TV which we didn't even use due to all the other activities we pursued. There is seating & tables in front of rooms both downstairs and upstairs and we had a semi-private (due to a lattice barrier between our portion and the room next door) back balcony, with rocking chairs & table, overlooking the creek. There is a large fire pit area near the main road and a gazebo by the creek. There is a grill at the gazebo for guest use along with a clean-up sink. There are towels for cleaning up your motorcycle. Location was great, at the end of the main drag of the touristy parts of Maggie Valley and at the beginning of the twisties heading towards Cherokee. There is also a gas station across the street for fuel ups, food, and drinks. Joey’s Pancake House is also within walking distance, though Sunday morning it was packed and we opted to skip the wait. After our first night we did have breakfast at Country Vittles Family Style Restaurant down the road, which had excellent food and the all you can eat breakfast is a great value.
While not a major detraction just be aware that the parking lot is chewed up at the two entrance/exit spots and one did pool water when it rained. Also, on this website there were many questions about smoking on the balcony that had been answered that it was allowed as long as windows are closed. Upon arrival there were signs on the balcony that there was no smoking of any kind and to only smoke at the fire pit or gazebo. I did enjoy smoking my pipe while reading at the gazebo; once again, not a dealbreaker but be aware of the restrictions.

I came here 2 years ago as a widow. My previous husband passed away in Aug. 2020. I just remarried in November. My husband and I came for a spur of the moment husband and wife retreat after a very hectic last few weeks. We stayed in one of the balcony rooms. The room and everything was clean, and we both enjoyed sitting out on the porch listening to the river flowing by. Although we arrived much later than planned, it was still a very quiet, enjoyable experience. It was everything we expected, and they leave the porch light on for you. We will be back!
There was really nothing we didn't like, only wish we could have stayed longer.

We loved the cleanliness of the room, the brightness, the light, and the decoration, which was truly thoughtful, down to the details of the small pieces of furniture. The river flowing behind the property is very soothing, and the setting feels poetic and bucolic—almost romantic, I would say. The quality of the welcome and the motel overall should serve as an example—even to establishments that claim to be more prestigious—and could truly teach a lesson to the biggest franchises. You can genuinely feel the care and the intention to do everything possible to make the guest feel as comfortable as possible, and it's truly a great success.
What I didn’t like was not being able to stay long enough to truly enjoy it even more. !!!!

I actually booked the room because it looked decent and it was cheap. I live on top of the mountain in Maggie. I couldn't get snowed in again. I've got to get to work. It turned out that I didn't need the room but I ended up staying there anyway because they have a 48-hour cancellation policy. It was the coolest place ever! All of the rooms on the bottom floor have a beautiful deck right on the creek with the rapids. It's really incredible. There's kind of a small boardwalk that leads to a wooden covered patio with picnic tables and a grill. This is an amazing hidden gem. I'm going to come back when my friends come into town because it would be a perfect place to spend time together instead of just being bored in your hotel room. This place could actually be a destination in itself. Perfect place to crack a beer or a glass of wine and just relax and talk by the rapids. So impressed! I can't say it enough.
That's a great place but it is a small town working motel. There's nothing fancy about it and the people who own it live in the office which I think is so cool but it wouldn't be good for someone like my ex-girlfriend who is high maintenance lol for regular people it's great!

I liked the friendliness and family feeling of this place. They didn't advertise it but there was a creek behind my room which I could hear as I drifted off to sleep. Very nice.
This was not a place that served breakfast. They didn't advertise themselves as providing breakfast so I don't know why I was asked about this on the evaluation form. Breakfast at Joey's pancake house was great.

This was beyond my expectations! The room we booked had an amazing view and access to the creek. My husband and I spent one beautiful evening around the firepit just catching up and reconnecting. It was nice being away from all the hustle amd bustle. The staff was great and very welcoming. We will definitely be staying here again.
The room was dated and didn't have all the modern upgrades but we didn't need any of that to enjoy our stay.

Stony Creek is near the end of Maggie Valley leading towards Cherokee. It's a no-frills motel that was super clean, super spacious, with well appointed rooms. The bathroom is dated but I LOVED that about it and it was SUPER clean. It gave cozy vibes and I didn't overly worry about my 5 year old touching everything. The bedroom/living space was MASSIVE. It great for our little one to run in without fear of breaking anything and the chairs were incredibly cozy. The beds were comfy and I loved their comforters. The AC was THE BEST. It was so dang hot out and the AC did an amazing job of making the room super comfy. There's a dresser, huge open closet with a massive bench, a microwave, mini fridge with freezer, and mounted TV. We had everything we needed. Breakfast was a little but of a let down. When making our reservations we were choosing between a pool and breakfast. As a family of 5, we went with breakfast to help save on food costs. The morning we were there we found 3 types of cereal, toast, applesauce, oj, and coffee provided. Nothing to snub your nose at, but also not enough to sustain my husband or our twins. We ended up at the Buttered Biscuit, which was such a great experience that I can't even complain. We each got a drink and went and sat on the patio by the creek and enjoyed a slow wake up there. That was brilliant. The patio had lots of seating options and the creek is just "mountain magic". There's a sweet little pup named Sassy that stays in the main office and she was a bright spot for all of our kids. She has excellent social skills. Overall, our stay was great.
Breakfast could have had included a few extra options.
