The breakfast was a basic continental breakfast. There was some confusion as there was a convention going on and no signage to suggest this breakfast restaurant service was separate than what was offered to hotel guests.

The hotel is a beautiful historic property and was in fair condition, but it looked a little rough around the edges and could use some updating and general restoration work. The restaurant menu was small and there was nowhere else to eat. The area was very beautiful, but since it was off season, there wasn't much to do.

The continental breakfast in the off season is very small but the pastries were delicious. The building itself is a beautiful Victorian era hotel full of character and well-maintained. The staff were all so kind and friendly, very helpful and many went above and beyond. The view of the lake from the hotel also can’t be beat.

The only thing I would say is that in the off season, especially so close to the beginning of the Institute’s summer program, they should have a slightly more extensive menu available at the Heirloom restaurant since there aren’t many food options in Chautauqua Institute. Also, the continental breakfast was very small, I understand it’s usually much more grand during the summer program but a few bread options, Greek yogurt, and fruit is incredibly minimal for guests staying during the off season.

Breakfast looked good both days. They didn’t have options that meet my rather restricted dietary needs the first day. But the second day there was plenty of fruit along with all the breads and pastries and I was able to enjoy more than the coffee. Another visitor said that the food varies and there is often a wider variety after a wedding the day before. It was as nice of a dog friendly room as I’ve ever stayed in.

A lovely older hotel made very comfortable for today's travelers. Enjoyed the various nooks and crannies of the hotel. The breakfast was also nice even though off season. The staff was superb and helpful several times.

The lovely outdoor porches off the 2nd and 3rd floors could be spiffied up a bit and cobwebs removed. But loved them so rather they stay open if cannot be improved than close them down!

Staff was great. On Saturday night we were told to wait until 8pm to order food due to the wedding going on. No problem! When I went for the food, the young lady working behind the bar realized I couldn’t carry two appetizers and two waters. She got a try and then carried it to our room and refused a tip! Loved her and her extra effort!

Beautiful old hotel on Chautauqua lake. The history of the place is so interesting and you can feel the summer art & culture atmosphere even in spring

Breakfast was a little bare. Just Danish and coffee. Would be nice if there were a hot savory dish and oatmeal.

Location was great overlooking lake and the hotel has been restored keeping it victorian look and feel

Parking was 10 minute walk from the hotel and did not seem like a secure lot p;us it was uphill to go get the car next day

Chautauqua is an amazing place and the History is wonderful - The Athenaeum is a place I have always wanted to stay - And I 'm very glad I did - Everyone should experience this with an open mind and recognize how amazing it is to even stay in such a beautiful place!!

Not an option....

Amazing property and incredible location. Very fun exploring the building and surrounding area. Felt like such a luxury to sit on the porch.

Uncomfortable bed. VERY harsh lighting in room. Parking far away (and didn’t see/receive any information about valet). Beach access or pool would have been awesome.

It was nice to return to Chautauqua after having sold our condo. I had always admired the Anthenaeum but hadn’t stayed there until this trip. Our room was gorgeous and had a beautiful view of the lake.

No off season restaurant on site.
