Great staff. Sam was very professional and helpful. The room was comfortable.

We booked bc it was close to Stansted for an early am flight. Massive mistake. An Uber dropped us off after we arrived at Stansted, but we nearly missed our flight bc no Ubers would pick us up at 6.30am the next morning. We had no idea the village was so small & so far ( for public transport/uber) from Stansted.

The hotel is a small traditional yet modern, comfortable, reasonablly priced, nice staff, lovely beer garden. Nice location opposite beautiful gothic church and windmill in five minutes walk. A tiny old high street with unique shops. It's and above traditional pub so breakfast is served there, very tasty, groumet food all day, and reasonable drinks. Sunday roast was lovely. Staff are very friendly and helpful. Yet, Friday night was busy so my pudding didn't materialise. They deducted the bill and, gave me a free full English breakfast on Saturday to compensate my little disappointment. So nice. Location is in the high street in this picturesque town, only 15 minutes from Stansted Airport and Station, by car, or regular local buses, (but not Sundays), very convenient. Also same distance to beautiful Saffron Walden, Audley End House and Garden for events and picturesque town with museum, gallery, landscaped garden, many shops, old buildings in the relaxed lovely part of rural Essex.

It's nice rural location but, on Sundays there's no local buses. So if you don't drive you have to rely on local taxis or Uber. Both are short supplies so book early for Sundays and late evenings. Stansted Airport and railway station by taxi cost ￡40 for about 15 minutes ride. Bit expensive. Little too quiet, bit isolated but I stayed for outdoor concert in Audley End in Saffron Walden, so wasn't bad at all.

It was a lovely village, and the room was cozy, clean and comfortable. Lovely furnishings and nice bathroom. The pub was nice too for evening drink. Staff were all lovely.

It was a lovely room- quiet with windows shut but noisy from the planes if open. Couldn't park in the car park as full so had to park in free carpark a short walk down the road. Difficult to get taxis- uber were operating for our journey to the event at Audley End but not for the journey back, so had to leave early to chance getting a taxi back (which we luckily managed but was £35 compared to the £15 we paid for uber there). The breakfast was a bit disappointing - was ok but not the best.

The Swan inn is full of character and charm, a truly lovely place to stay. The historic features, cosy atmosphere and thoughtful decor give it a warm and welcoming feel. It’s the kind of place that makes you feel at home the moment you walk in.

We loved our stay! We were advised in advance about being in a medieval town setting and the sound of the church bells, which actually turned out to be quite lovely and added to a gorgeous atmosphere. That said the noise from other guests was very loud. It is not the fault of the hotel but light sleepers may want to keep that in mind.

Excellent location for an early morning flight from Stansted airport. The car park is small but we had no issue parking in the free public car park just a short walk away. The room was furnished very nicely and the bed very comfortable. We had to leave during the early hours which was no problem with the provided key drop box for our room key.

We stayed on a Friday night so experienced some noise from downstairs from the speakers and conversations in the pub until around 11pm but we expected this with it being a room above a popular pub so didn’t bother us but just to consider if you are getting up early.

The rooms were as we had asked for, twin beds, with one at least, on the ground floor. Compact but room to move about and everything one could want in a hotel room. Really comfy beds. Everywhere was spotlessly clean. Friendly helpful staff. Free parking close to the hotel entrance! We would certainly stay here again.

Breakfast was disappointing for 2 of us! We were there at 8.30am but only a couple of burnt looking pastries in that selection. My scrambled eggs were overcooked and cold. I did not complain to the waiter so I shouldn't really moan now. The 2 other cooked breakfasts were enjoyed. (The bowl of fresh mixed fruit was lovely)

The hotel is located on the main road in a very picturesque village not far from Stansted Airport. The room was booked very last minutes (i.e. 30 minutes before we arrived) due to a mix up of dates at another hotel. Even though it was very last minute, the room was ready on our arrival. The room was very clean, the bed comfortable and perfect for what we needed.

Unfortunately, it was the hottest day of the year and the room was unbearably hot. There was a window in the room but it didn't fully open. The noise from the airport was also audible during the night even with the window only open a little.

A very pleasant hotel. I had a room with an interesting view over the town and a good shower. Yes, it is a bit dated in some ways, but one can put up with that if the place is clean and well-equipped, which it was. I found the staff to be exceptionally pleasant and helpful. I would happily stay here again, and indeed have already booked for a forthcoming trip in that area in 2025. It is worth mentioning that the town itself is very pleasant, with some fascinating buildings, a stunningly beautiful church and an amazing range of shops and services for its size!

The place and the town are beautiful, the staff from cleaners to management are exceptional. The rooms are well equipped for a traveler's needs and the food is great.

We arrived in unusually warm weather, while the hotel advertises as having no AC, what is supplied in the room is a single small tabletop fan, when I asked for an extra one I was informed that would not be possible. This made it necessary to keep both windows open for the duration of our stay, facing directly the (beautiful and historic) church and its bells. Also made us feel like we lost some privacy. A ceiling fan would have been a great improvement.

The hotel is very well situated just opposite the church, a short walk downhill to the town centre. It is a large, comfortable, relaxing old pub/hotel and the staff invariably attentive, friendly and helpful. We stopped for a night on a cycling holiday to have a look at Thaxted, the hotel was happy to accommodate our bikes. The bedroom we had was clearly modern and comfortable, and lacked for nothing. It should be noted though that the church clock chimes on the hour throughout the night.

Although Thaxted is very beautiful it is unfortunately under the Stansted flight path - no fault of The Swan, but worth mentioning.
