Location is great. Food in restaurant is super. And breakfast was as good as it gets in Spain. Pool and surroundings are top notch. Big clean pool, lots of sunbeds and chairs with a bar.

Put us in a room that wasn't what we'd booked. But after some 'discussion' they gave us the right one. Basically, they misrepresent their attic rooms via photos on this site. They have a gym, but 7 out of 8 of the machines didn't work. There is no air con and it's all in a room previously used as a dining room or kitchen. One set of dumbbells. So not really a gym that is useable and looks to just be a tick box exercise to say they have a gym. Despite these issues we would stay again.

+ The fact that the Hotel is built inside the old fort. You get to stay at an historical landmark while getting access to visit a bunch of rooms. + The pool is pretty impressive. + The room was modern. Bathroom was spacious. + Everything was clean.

- The room "view" was blocked by a small construction in the roof. Pretty frustrating to have a window to a wall. - One of the windows didn't close properly. Management and security must ensure everything works properly before handing out a room. - The shower pressure was not ideal because the shower hose was leaking significantly. Again, management and housekeeping must ensure everything works as expected. - Breakfast was pretty poor. Coffee was horrible. Not a lot of fruit choices.

Forte de Sao Francisco Hotel is truly a hidden gem that we are incredibly grateful to have discovered. This place is absolutely breathtaking. Each staff member contributes to the exceptional experience, and the fabulous on-site restaurant takes it to the next level. We arrived by bicycle while cycling the N2, and we were pleased to find a secure indoor storage area for our bikes. The only downside was that we wished we had more time to fully enjoy this tranquil haven and savor additional meals. Don’t hesitate—book your stay, dine here, and thank me later!

Very interesting place to stay within the old Fort with interesting interior artifacts Large swimming pool with sun loungers Buffet style breakfast with plenty of choice on offer Short walk into Chaves which is a vibrant town . There is a display of Roman baths that were discovered when an underground carpark was excavated well worth a visit Parking within the hotel grounds was free and secure for our motorbike

Centrally located in Chaves within walking distance of the centre. Beautiful hotel with comfortable well appointed rooms. We had a problem with one of our motorbikes and one of the hotel staff (a lovely lady whose name I didn’t get im embarrassed to say) went out of our way to help us such that the problem was resolved and we were able to continue our trip.

The only slight gripe was the car park has very uneven stones which are quite treacherous to navigate on a motorbike….. but perhaps I need to improve my skills!!

This is simple. Great hotel. Bedroom very good for us. Have been to this hotel many times. Pool is great when weather is good. View from pool is amazing. Breakfast was first class. Evening meal was first class. The hotel is full of character and history. We will be back.

Annually we tour Spain and Portugal as a group. Of all the hotels, this was by far the best without a doubt. However, you need a good reason to visit this area. We use it whilst on route to another destination.

The double rooms were with 2 single beds next to each other, but they were not connected,We would prefer if they were made together as a one big bed. Mattresses were not very comfortable and the same with the pillows

This is one of the loveliest hotels we've ever stayed in. It has so much character. The antique furniture in our part of the hotel was beautiful. The room we stayed in was spacious and spotlessly clean. Loved the bath and/or shower option. The staff, without exception, were charming and helpful. Breakfasts were a treat and qualty of food was so good. Pool was great and had nice snack bar.

It’s a treat to stay in a parador, and this one in particular. There are so many nooks to explore, including an old chapel right near the room. The breakfast space and buffet may be the best I’ve ever had.

The top floor has a gabled roof, so tall folks have to be aware not to bang their heads on the ceiling.

What wasn't to like. A magnificent setting for a hotel, and a good base to explore Chaves and the surrounding area. We ate in the restaurant one evening (you have to book at reception), there weren't many other there but the food was excellent. As with other hotels breakfast is buffet style and the staff ensure that the food is refreshed on a regular basis. An interesting building in its own right.
