Hanalei Colony is a tranquil refuge away from the hustle and bustle of car traffic and urban life, though creature comforts like a coffee shop, bar and restaurant are within a stone's throw on the resort property. We loved being so close to the beautiful beach with the constant sound and drama of the crashing waves. We also enjoyed our proximity to Ha'ena State Park and State Beach, the Kalaulau Trail, and Lumahai Beach (where my mom and mother-in-law had us film them singing "I'm Gonna Wash That Man Right Out of My Hair" from South Pacific, since it was shot there:)

Two of the hotel staff were a bit difficult and even rude at first, especially to my mother-in-law, which unfortunately put a sour note on the start of our visit. They seemed unhappy with us when our plans changed and we had to arrive after hours - we stopped by the office in-person the next morning. I'm not sure why exactly it upset them, because they didn't explain and they have a good system for this very thing. They must have been under stress for some reason. They treated us much better after that.

For tourist who want Room Service. This is not the place for you! (you know who you are) You're about 15 min drive to Hanalei, to the restaurants and bars. But if you want seclusion and no TV's or radios in your room and the sound and smell, breeze of the ocean. Then this is the place for you. (there are no A/C units in the rooms)

Everything about our stay was fantastic. The staff and hosts were excellent and friendly and the room was beautiful. There's a great restaurant and bar directly next to the resort and my wife and I got a chance to chat with one of the hosts who was a delight. We'll definitely be staying here again as soon as possible.

I do wish there was a change/detergent dispenser machine in the laundry room. The laundry room was open until 8pm but we weren't able to grab the things we needed since the office had already closed. Be sure to bring your own detergent/quarters if you plan on doing laundry later in the evening.

We had the perfect room location - with oceanview but protected from the strongest winds. The kitchen was very well equipped - the best kitchen I've ever had on any vacation! We slept extremely well, with the ocean breezes and no disturbing noises at all. I loved the pool area! Protected from the wind, surrounded by beautiful flowers. The laundry room and water filter machine were also very useful.

We were informed about the "contact-less housekeeping" concept upon our arrival: you exchange your own towels, and you change your own sheets (???). Isn't ALL cleaning contactless? It's usually done when the guests are away...but OK. You get a broom and dust-pan in the room but we asked for more cleaning supplies and got one all-purpose cleaning spray. A nice surprise: We had one cleaning on Day 4, after all. Much appreciated! Could have used some more floor mopping and it would have been useful to have a toilet brush in the bathrooms.

This place is in one of the most remote places you can access by road on the island, on a beautiful coastline. It's peaceful, beautiful and quiet. We loved our garden suite (M2), which was tastefully decorated, very clean and well ventilated (no AC) and looked out on the lush garden/stream and pool area (in the distance). The new pool and jacuzzi are nestled in a gorgeous garden. There's a free shuttle you can book during the daytime to take you into town or to the nearby beaches. The staff were all very friendly and accommodating, and the vibe overall was very chill.

The food at the on-site restaurant (Opakapaka) was just OK - though we only had one meal there so perhaps we missed better offerings. Also, it's too bad that the beautiful beach ON the property is only for view - the currents are too dangerous for swimming. It's not a big deal, since you can drive 10 minutes to the beautiful Makua (Tunnels) beach but I wish I'd realized that earlier.

The location and the room was perfect for us. The bed was super comfortable and we commented on the weight of the duvet but during the night we were sure glad to have it. The kitchen was well equipped with new pots and pans, a coffee maker and all the plates, cups and cutlery you could possibly need. We enjoyed Tunnels Beach and it was so handy using the shuttle bus. The beach chairs and snorkels were an added bonus.

You have a beautiful view on the ocean at one side and on the jungle on the other side. The pool is suggestive in the jungle and quiet. You have a bar and a restaurant. There are not so special but basic (at the bar you can find espresso).

When we came into the room, we didn’t understand where is the second bedroom. The bed was a sofa too short for a person 170cm tall. Although the resort position was good for hiking or so on, the first market, shops and restaurants are at 15 minutes of a tortuous road. Some furnitures were old, the house was a little bit neglected.

Beautiful location, facilities good

25 year anniversary which on arrival we were told happy anniversary which was nice, on our second day another couple booked in on their anniversary and they were given a bottle of champagne, thought this was very nice gesture, but we didn't receive one? We also stayed just outside national park, which we wanted to visit, but you need to book a pass in advance, we were not informed of this despite booking 4 months prior our visit, surely pending guest should be informed on the need to book a pass for the island national park almost next door. This was a great shame that we could not visit.

A lovely location, a great room ,comfortable and spacious with all you need . We appreciated the shuttle to town for dinner and to the beach where parking was impossible. Proximity to Tunnel beach was great, beautiful spot. Handy to have a coffee place and restaurant next door. The new pool is great. Appreciated the recycling bins.

There was no housekeeping, but we didn't mind that actually , easy enough to tidy up ourselves. One shower was so tiny I could only just fit in, the other bathroom was fine. Two bathrooms was great!

Grounds ere well kept. Staff were friendly & helpful. The shuttle was a life saver and the driver was very accommodating. The unit wasn’t as updated as I’d normally prefer, but it was spacious, clean, and made for a comfortable stay. The included beach chairs & umbrella really helped out during the beach days. I would definitely stay here again.

Not enough convenient drawers for clothing in my unit.
