The Hotel is conveniently located, close to the main throughfare from Inverness to Thurso/Scrabster - so an ideal location to pause a long journey and take a breather before heading north for an early/later ferry. The Hotel and staff are welcoming and friendly - the facilities comfortable and clean - and the location ideal for exploring the 'auld town' of Helmsdale, its harbour, beach and environs. Our room - a 'family room' with three single beds, TV, sink and view - suited us perfectly and would suit any single parent travelling (or a small party of friends). I wish more hotels had rooms like these, as the single beds mean there's more room/less clutter than is often the case.

We weren't aware that the room was not en-suite, but this wasn't an issue as there were multiple, clean and well-equipped shower rooms and toilets close to our (and every) room, and a large handbasin in the room which made toothbrushing and face-washing a convenient part of our bedtime routine.

One can always tell how good an establishment by checking the sausage served at Breakfast. The sausage was GREAT! Really tasty. I loved that the place was dog friendly, that I was charged for a single room and didn't have to pay a supplement because I'm a solo traveller. The Hotel was VERY reasonable. I also rated the facilities. My bicycle was placed in a secure area undercover too. Can't fault. Helmsdale is lovely too.

Bathroom not ensuite but I wouldn't expect that for the money I paid, so all good. Also - heard the neighbour coming in later on...These are very minor quibbles - really, I would recommend the Belgrave Arms Hotel to anyone travelling that way.

only went to the Belgrave for its location In Helmsdale. The hotel is beside the A9 trunk road, but the traffic noise was barely noticeable. The rooms are not en-suite hence the very reasonable prices. It's an old fashioned hotel, not far off 200 years old. The owners are very pleasant and breakfast as good as in any other budget hotel. The hotel is popular with Land's End to John o'Groats walkers.

We stayed in the en-suite rooms and they were extremely comfortable and served our purposes perfectly for an overnight stay on the way to the ferry for Orkney. The ‘icing on the cake’ was an excellent home-cooked full Scottish breakfast with home made jam. Very good value for money.

Some aspects of the hotel are outdated, but they are part of the charm, and reflected in the low cost.

MAybe a fridge in room.but that would probably be noisy. Pepper and Salt on every table would be great so I didn't have to keep asking people to use it.

Single Room with shared facilities booked. Room was compact ,very clean and bed was very comfortable. Shared bathroom was well appointed and very clean and tidy. This is ,at the price point, an ideal stop point for anyone considering the John O Groats Way. The adjoining pub had a real fire plus reasonably priced pint.

Nothing to dislike.

The hotel is conveniently located in the centre of Helmsdale but right next to the bridge into the village. Inside, it is perfectly comfortable and the food, including vegetarian options, was ample and tasty. The owners treated me very well and even gave me a lift back to Inverness. They are also knowledgeable about local walks. Note that the place is closed on Wednesdays.

Couldn't really fault it.

The owners made me feel so welcome from the moment I stepped in the door. A great little bar area. Locals were friendly too. Breakfast was good to served straight from the kitchen and in hot trays like some well known hotels. Overall I really enjoyed my one night stay here and if I’m ever up that way again I’d be looking to book there.

No en-suite room but toilet and shower room were only feet away in the hallway.

This was my second stay here - it is a really nice (old fasthioned) hotel, providing an excellent breakfast and they're very nice people. Although it is on the busy main road, at night noise is not a problem. Wish I could have stayed longer.

Very old mattress which was not comfortable. Everything else was lovely.

It was right on the JoG trail and for me, represented excellent value for money. I got a comfortable place to sleep, a piping hot shower and a generous complimentary tea, coffee and biscuits including breakfast!

The room I was given provided complimentary ear plugs as the window faced a busy main road. In fairness however, this didn’t bother me as I was out like a light.
