We liked every aspect of the hotel, from the aroma of incense as we entered, to the beautiful artwork throughout the hotel. The amenities are first class, the tea facilities at reception unique in our experience, (20 varieties), the first-class restaurant is outstanding (breakfast is magnificent) and the rooms clean, comfortable and well-appointed. And overseeing every aspect is a superb staff who are invariably helpful, solicitous and professional. Overall, this is the best hotel establishment we've stayed at, and we look forward to our return.

There's no aspect of the hotel with which we were disappointed.

Incredible hotel. Private onsen alone is wowwww. We never had a problem waiting in line for the onsen, at least 1 was always open. It was so peaceful and relaxing after walking all day in Kyoto. We also didn't have any issues with the shoe/room key exchange like other people said. It was literally fine. They give you Yukatas and cute waffle pajama set to wear around the hotel which was nice. God tier breakfast buffet. Japanese + plenty of western food. Our favorites were the onsen eggs, wabarimochi, thick lil bacons, tasty fishies, chasu pork and sometimes chirashi bowl!! Sooo many options you'd have to stay a week to try it all. 5 star quality food. Get dinner there at least once, it is a worthwhile experience! So many little freebies throughout the hotel too. We had a ton of matcha from the machine. The Umekoji station is right around the corner. We didn't spend too much time in the immediate area but it was easy enough to get to the more popular neighborhoods. It was nice to come back to the hotel a bit outside of the busy area! Honestly the souvenir shop was clutch too. Good prices, i got a lot of my souvenirs here. I was comparing the prices shopping around nishiki and it was similar if not cheaper.

The automatic light in the hallway was a bit disruptive at night but this is being very nit picky and should not factor in your decision.

Attention to details made this hotel exceptional. From the tatami floors, japanese relics,Yucatá, private Onsen, popsicles, ramen and little Japanese snacks. The staff were exceptional. They spoke a little English. The hotel is far from the activities and restaurants in Kyoto. It would help if the guest were given a map of the nearest train station/subway/bus station. We took grub to get to restaurants and activities. Cost was 9-10 dollars going to the train station. We were a group of 4 so we shared the cost Advice would be to Save at least a day to just enjoy the hotel, their breakfast and dinner. It is an experience. I specially loved their private Onsen.I am not comfortable getting naked in front of other people so the private Onsen was perfect for me.i went there 3x during our stay most I had to wait was 5-10 minutes. We spent 2 nights in this hotel. In retrospect I would book 1 night in this hotel and book the rest of the time in a hotel near the train station. That would save me time and money. In retrospect.

Location. The hotel was far from restaurants and activities.Having a guide on how to get to the train station/bus station/ subway would have been helpful. We took grub to go to restaurants and activities.

Husband and I opted to splurge on a night in a nice ryokan in Kyoto and this place exceeded any expectations we had. Everything from the location (one stop away from Kyoto Station), to exterior and interior look of the hotel, to how spacious the room is (it was a great relief after being cramped in Tokyo for a week), to the service of the staff, to amenities available, to how delicious and varied the meals were (traditional multi-course dinner and buffet breakfast), and overall feel of the place was simply amazing and we would 100% come back and splurge on this place again if we ever visit Kyoto in the future.

This is a true Japanese hotel with beautiful private and public baths in the hotel. Majority of people who stay here are Japanese so be warned if you expect a hotel that caters to everyone. It was fine for our family. The rooms are traditional with no shoes in the hotel which is lovely. Plenty of free little perks like noodles, coffee, icecreams etc. The staff were friendly. The hotel very clean 👌

The location is terrible if you are only staying a few days. The train system is not well connected which meant it took us 1.5 hours to go 4 stops. The taxis are expensive. Also the bathing tax and night tax is not included in the Booking.com rate. So be warned ⚠️

Big luxurious rooms that was very very comfortable. We stayed here for a night and didn’t leave the hotel we made the most of the meals, free icy piles and drinks at the bar and most of the all the onsen. Incredible stay to unwind after weeks or endless walking exploring. There is a 7 eleven just opposite the hotel if need as well. The private onsen was incredible, good time to go in the morning for a quick one before they clean the pools at 10am and it’s quiet

There were options for different pillows types on each floor but all the other guests took them all and we couldn’t get a single extra pillow. They didn’t have any at the front desk.

It was a good experience. The facility is great and the hotel is beautiful and clean. My family enjoyed it greatly. The private onsen is definitely worth the visit. The longue was also a good amentity to have. Overall, very great experience

The hotel requires you to remove the shoes and hand the front staff your room key in order to exchange it. This is a new policy and it seems to delay the departure process during the busy time since you will have to wait to get the keys back and forth. This wasn't the case for other dormy inn hotels. I'm not sure why it was implemented and how it might help the guests. The breakfast layout can also be improved. The buffet area is with great variety and delicious food but the counters are very close to each other making it very narrow to walk through. There is no time of the day that you can enjoy browsing the buffet line properly. I wish this can be improved.

Breakfast is good, wide variety from japanese to western styles. Service staffs at the check in area speaks fluent english and/or chinese (those with the language tag on them). Very well maintained place, beautiful hotel, good amenities, clean and comfortable. Rooms are beautiful as well. Excellent stay with the train station right beside it. There's a big park as well with railway museum just a stone throw away, and the aquarium a short walk away from the hotel. Big playground if you have kids with a nice cafe right beside it that serves delicious pizzas and more.

The hassle of having to put your shoes in the locker prior to entering the main area of the hotel as the floors are all tatami. Then exchanging the locker key with your room key. Kinda makes moving in and out not as easy. Pillows are very thin but they offer a wide range of different pillows at every floor of the hotel but are usually not available (first come first serve basis)

Ryokan style with tatami floor throughout the entire interior, shoes are not allowed and guests wear socks or barefoot, feel really comfortable. Private baths was good for families and guests with tattoos. We love our quad room which was spacious and comfy, corridors are well decorated with Japanese ornaments which gives a very good vibe. Lobby equipped with tea making facilities and a variety of tea options. The hot chocolate is rich and tasty. It was definitely a great experience and a very comfortable stay. I planned this stay at the end of our trip to finish our trip in a relaxing manner and it met my expectations.

Everything! I have nothing to complain! Is a totally great experience. Free ice cream, noodles and the best is private bath. With the private bath facilities, the public bath crowd was significantly reduced and those with tattoos can finally have a chance to go for onsen. Hotel is very close to station and I greatly love this hotel. Highly recommend to anyone who loves onsen. Breakfast is great with variety!

Nothing.
