Staff were very helpful with everything. They were all very friendly, nothing was too much trouble and they all worked so hard.
I had a cold poached egg twice! I tried to stay away from all the dogs by sitting at table no 6, as I have an allergy to dogs, I went into the bar area to have a drink there was a very well behaved dog laying across the walk way and then on the seating while the owners took selfies with it.

Our four-night stay at the Kingslodge Inn in Durham was very satisfactory. Our room was reasonably large, it was quiet, and the bed was excellent. The room was fairly bright, it was clean, and there were two bedside lamps. Staff were friendly and helpful; checking in and checking out were easy. Our room was properly serviced each day. The curtains were light-blocking -- important when the sun rises at 04:30 AM. The bathroom was moderately large and benefitted from a well-made, modern shower stall. There was a very satisfactory range of foodstuffs available at breakfast, and everything was well-organized and nicely presented. Egg dishes were cooked to order. The restaurant is open long hours, and our one evening meal was tasty and reasonably priced.
The Kingslodge Inn falls somewhat short of its potential. Relatively inexpensive improvements would have made our room more comfortable. For instance, the bathroom, though large, has no shelf or cabinet of any sort. (Apparently guests are not expected to have toothbrushes, combs, razors, or cosmetics . . . ) Even the rim of the washbasin is narrow. There is only one rather small towel bar and one hook on the back of the bathroom door. There are two bedtables. However, they are small; there would be sufficient place for larger bedtables. The Kingslodge might not be well suited for individuals with mobility constraints. There is no lift/elevator, and stairways are fairly narrow. On the other hand, parking is conveniently located.

The beds were comfortable, the room was clean and well maintained. The restaurant was very clean and had a lovely homely decor. All the staff were polite and helpful, especially the maintenance man who helped my daughter and I with our cases up to our room. Due to allergies, I was happy to learn that the kitchen was completely nut free.
The menu for the evening meals seemed a bit restrictive (not many options), we would have liked a jacket potato option maybe or a sandwich/panini menu for lighter food options. Breakfast options were great but the full English breakfast was lost in the huge plate it arrived on.

The property is a cosy lodge with ample seating and a friendly atmosphere. The beds are exceptionally comfortable. Nice to have a cool fan running in our room on a hot days arrival. Nice outdoor areas with bonus of woodland vale walk on site with beautiful views. Got to say we have a small dog Bob and thought this was one of the best places we have stayed. Areas to eat and be with your dog and it actively being kept clean. We were made very welcome and did not feel pushed aside like some dog friendly hotels.
Bedroom a bit dark but has plenty of lighting choices. Not really a negative as property is very old and you expect some quirky.

the location was ideal - just a very short walk to the city centre. there was plenty of parking. staff were friendly and check-in was straightforward. the room was very clean and comfortable (only downside was that there was no electric socket near the mirror, which is the norm in hotel rooms!!), inc. hairdryer, iron/ironing board, fan. Breakfast was included and although the continental choice wasn't that great, the cooked breakfast was lovely.
only 2 downsides which were not major - 1. there was no electric socket beside the mirror, which you tend to find in a lot of rooms and 2. the choice of continental breakfast

Extremely warm reception from the staff on arrival. They were very understanding and flexible with check due to train delays. It was a very well-appointed cosy room with great complimentary biscuits to accompany the fine selection of tea and coffee in the room. Breakfast was excellent and represented great value for money overall. Its very conveniently located for the railway station and the city itself, whilst being in a relatively quiet secluded spot. They were also kind enough to hold my bag after checkout whilst visiting the city. I highly recommend it.
Nothing i didn't like about this Inn/Hotel

Although it was a single my room and en suite bathroom were very spacious. The location right next to a wooded area and withing sight of the famous viaduct was attractive. It was a little further out from the centre than some hotels, but it was handy for the station and Durham is so compact a city that nowhere is too far. It's nice to walk. The staff were friendly, efficient and available at all times. The food was so good that I ate breakfast (cooked to order) and dinner there every day and had I been staying longer I'd have worked my way right through the menu. Almost the best thing was how relaxed and comfortable the hotel was - I'd go as far as to say that I've never stayed anywhere quite that easy to be in. It felt as near to home (with service) as a hotel is ever likely to.
Actually nothing that was under the hotel's control. My room did get rather hot and stuffy when the sun shone directly into it, in the late afternoon. I'm not going to be the guy who complains about sunshine in England! I think there may have been an electric fan in the wardrobe too.

Great location for seeing Durham. So lovely to be able to go for great walks from the doorstep.
Smoking area by my window - not very busy however.

Everything was lovely. I asked for a quiet room and we got one; it also gave a view of the woods behind the hotel. In addition, the room was warm and spacious with a very comfortable bed. The menu was varied enough for 3 nights or more and the buffet breakfasts plentiful. The cooked breakfast dishes were nicely cooked and presented. There was little or no delay in service and we didn't feel 'rushed' at any of the meals. I asked for a light bulb to be changed as it was very dim and flickered and this had been seen to by the time we got back in the evening. The location of the hotel is just right being on the fringe of the main tourist area but totally walkable from the train station (10-15 minutes) in one direction and into town in the other. It is in a cul de sac with Flass Vale woods behind and therefore quiet. We liked the ambience of the whole place inside and out.
Only very small observations which didn't impact all that adversely on our stay: The decor is a little dated and could do with a face-lift; our shower room had no radiator so was a little chilly when getting out of the shower (though I admit I am a wimp and it was 4 degrees C outside); occasionally one or two components of some meals were a little on the cool side as if they'd been kept waiting - eg, mushy peas/poached eggs; the walk into town is not great with a couple of very busy roads to cross and no pedestrian crossings - totally not the hotel's fault of course!

Excellent location and great to have parking available on site. The check in and out was very easy, the staff throughout were polite, helpful and efficient including the breakfast staff. The room was beautifully clean and comfortable, with plenty of plug sockets for charging devices. The hotel bar and restaurant was spacious and welcoming. I didn't stay long enough to try the restaurant but the menu looked delicious. In the morning, I thoroughly enjoyed at a leisurely pace the generous breakfast especially the filter coffee
The window of my room was at one end which meant the other end of the room was rather dark; a lamp at this end would have been good but this is only a minor point in an otherwise nice room.
