I just turned up and wasn’t expecting too much but I was given the attic flat with superb views and an amazing amount of space and huge bathroom So many windows WiFi TV and breakfast included Parking as well Easy access to the main roads Had I just been on holiday I’d have loved it I asked for extra Tea bags and was given about 20 of them Staff so pleasant and nice Late check out no extra cost got loads of work done and drank some of that tea!

There wasn’t much not to like Well ok Kitchen was closed the next day Not surprised since they’d worked so hard the previous day and didn’t have that many bookings

Rooms met our expectations, as we only wanted a room to visit Durham for the one night with breakfast. Staff were extremely helpful, on street parking (car park limited to three vehicles), very quiet neighbourhood with no students up at all hours. The bed was lovely and soft, with a comfortable pillow and duvet. A key to allow ourselves in or out whenever we wanted to, and no noise from the other guests staying there throughout the night. The accommodation would not be suitable for disabled people, but the hotel never promised that. The stairs to the upper rooms was very narrow, and quiet elevated. There were bannister rails up the two flights, and quiet manageable if you took your time.

Breakfast: Our only point that we didn't like, the breakfast was very greasy. It wasn't very appetising due to the amount of oil present on and in the food, and it seemed like no thought had gone into making it for your customers. Sorry guys, but it was a little off-putting. Not expecting al-a-carte by any means, but the breakfast was of extremely poor standard when everything else was just lovely.

Wonderful place to stay everything was 5 star. Rich, Clare,Lisa and the rest of the team couldn't do enough. The friendliest team we have ever come across. Normally stay in 5 star hotels but The Avenue went above and beyond. One of the most comfortable beds we have slept in, lovely quality bedding and towels, plenty of hot water and warm rooms. Breakfast really good and freshly cooked. Couldn't fault The Avenue in any way

Wardrobe space a bit small but only because we were staying 9 nights with lots of winter clothing. Lighting could have been a bit better

The Avenue was easy to find and the staff were great. Unfortunately we were too late for an evening meal but the breakfast was really good. There was a good quality tea and coffee selection in the room with biscuits. The room size was ok with twin beds. We were visiting Durham and the location was great, with the buses running past the hotel.

The room was really hot, even with the window open, and the walls were quite thin so we could hear conversations of our neighbours on the phone. Unfortunately the shower was broken and only very hot/ scalding water would come out once warmed up.

A warm & friendly welcome on arrival with attentive service until departure. We met Clare first who cheerfully checked us in, showed us to our rooms, both with comfy beds, duvets & pillows, clean bathrooms with toiletries, plush towels, tea & coffee tray & adequate storage facilities for clothes. The old property pub character was charming mixed with the inclusion of up dated effects that made for a very warm & relaxing feel. Food was plentiful & reasonably priced, our stay included full English breakfast, or smaller breakfast options if you preferred. Food & drinks were served quickly & efficiently plus the clearing of tables was spot on:) The reason for our stay was to attend a family funeral in the area, The Avenue staff being naturally friendly & caring, we will definitely return when we are heading Durham way again, hopefully when the weather is warmer for a cocktail 🍹 Huge thanks again Clare, Rich & Lisa All the best for the future love from Bev, Steve & Maureen 🤗

Lovely hotel with very spacious comfortable room with own ensuite . Super comfortable bed and pillows . Very clean . Loved being able up make a cuppa in our room and biscuits . Wonderful view over a paddock . Had two outside areas to sit in the sun . Enjoyed an evening meal in the dining room . Food was really good and plenty to choose from . The next morning we had a huge breakfast provided as part of the stay . Including a machine coffee or a pot of tea and a glass of juice . Clare was a great host !

Room was spacious and clean. The staff was friendly and courteous. They kept us informed when they were having work done and the water would be turned off allowing us to properly plan our day. I loved the breakfast in the mornings, were able to select what time we wanted to have it served in the dining area downstairs. My boyfriend and I really enjoyed our stay and will be recommending this inn to our friends. Easy to get to city centre from here, bus stop located directly across the street. Petrol station located up the main road about half mile. I stopped by the morning of check in and the staff were able to hold on to my suitcase prior to check in which was a plus. Check in was a breeze and paid for our stay at the bar.

The only negative thing I can even remotely think from our stay was the bed, you could sometimes feel the seam in the middle where they joined two smaller sized beds to create the king size bed.

The staff were very friendly and made us feel so welcome. The room was clean and the beds were incredibly comfy! We had a meal in the evening and the service and food were excellent. Breakfast did not disappoint either, I had the eggs Benedict and jr was so tasty! I would definitely recommend!

A point that did not negatively impact our stay at all but good for future guests to be aware of - with it being a Saturday night and a pub there was loud music playing in the evening. This did not bother us at all and as I say it did not affect our stay, but something to consider if you are thinking of booking at the weekend!

Claire and Lisa were very down to earth, at the same te professional, with another lady behind the bar but I didn't get her name. Nothing was any trouble, all you need do, was ask. They all provided a warm welcome and the atmosphere in the establishment is nice and cosy with affordable prices for wonderful food. Breakfast was included with the price which was cooked to perfection.

To have toast alongside breakfast would be the icing on the cake.

I loved this place and would happily stay again. It was a 5 minute drive from Durham centre. The majority of the staff were amazing and so helpful. The food was good too, nothing fancy, just good pub grub. The beds were comfortable and it was nice to have a large TV in the bedroom.

The only thing I could fault is that the place needs a bit of TLC as it looked a bit grubby in parts. I'm sure this will be sorted in time, and it would not put me off staying again.
