The staff were welcoming, especially Georgina, who was friendly and vey approachable. The room was clean, warm and inviting, just as expected. Was given a key so I could come in and out at anytime. The bonus for me was off street parking and was able to leave the car there for a few hours after check out before heading back home. I definitely recommend the Victoria Inn, and will book to stay with them on my next visit to Durham.

Great location, lovely friendly old fashioned pub. Comfy bed, room exactly as advertised. Free parking was an added bonus. Staff were really great (didn’t get the bar ladies name on Sat night but she was especially helpful). Great walks along the river into the city and also in the other direction along the river (past the Durham Cow & a great cafe) into beautiful countryside. Lovely relaxing break.

We’re not used to city noise and unfortunately had one of the only rooms facing the road so found traffic noise a bit troublesome (bothered my other half more than me) but you can’t book city centre without expecting some noise. Would ask for room not facing the road next time. Also, and again it is stated on the info so we should’ve been more careful, we had one of the only rooms with no shower & missed having a shower. Would ask for a shower next time.

Breakfast was not an option at the hotel but the information book in our room provided locations nearby where breakfast could be sourced. This was also supported by the gentleman who showed us to our room when we arrived and pointed out where to park at the rear of the building. The location was perfect for our needs as we were close to both St. Mary's College at Durham University and also Durham Cathedral both of which were well within walking distance. The local restaurants were also within walking distance. For anyone attending an event at Durham Cathedral I would recommend this hotel as a place to stay. It is a listed building and quite quirky but it's clean with a comfy bed and I believe all the rooms are en suite. They also serve a variety of ales in the small bars on the ground floor.

We were in Room 4 up two flights of stairs which was fine for us but I didn't notice a lift anywhere so maybe not so good for someone with mobility issues. Our room had a bathroom with a slanted roof over a bath - no shower. I am a tall elderly man and I did struggle a bit with this bath but we managed.

The room was very clean and had all the amenities you would expect in a larger hotel which was much appreciated. The staff gave a personal service and the venue was dog friendly! Plus a short walk to the castle and cathedral was handy, and I could leave my car parked while I explored the city.

My first impression was it was a small busy local pub and I was slightly concerned what I had booked, and wondered if it would be noisy; but I was pleasantly surprised at how friendly and personal the staff were and the room was excellent, clean, well dressed and comfortable. Noise was not an issue! Thanks for having me - next time I won’t judge a book by its cover!

We were met by a lovely lady (apologies, don't remember her name), who showed us where to park and showed us to our room. The room was just as described and had everything we could need for our stay. We had our dog with us and he was made to feel very welcome and we were given keys to get back in during the night should we have needed to let him out in the early hours. We stayed there at the end of our Northumberland 250 road trip and is a perfect venue to finish the trip and have a walk round the beautiful city of Durham.

Brilliant little pub with lovely rooms. The staff and owner are friendly and helpful. It's dog friendly, limited parking is available and has brilliant beer. It doesn't do food. That includes breakfast but there are loads of nice places that do a five to ten minutes away. The staff gave us some ideas where to try which was great. Can't wait to come back.

Excellent location for exploring Durham city. Room was spacious and comfortable, with a fantastic shower over the bath. Good to have tea and coffee facilities in the room, which were very well stocked and topped up for our second day. The bar on the ground floor was a wonderful timewarp and stocked an excellent range of beers, whiskys and gins.

Not much. We had problems accessing the wifi and the tv didn't appear to work but these were both fixed rapidly and enhanced our stay. It was great to have private parking just around the corner but be aware that the bays are tight for most cars.

Perfect location for those who visit Durham for conferences at the University campus as well as for tourism. Nice room, the Victoria Inn pub on the ground floor is nice for drinks (if your room is on the first floor you'll hear some talks and laughter, especially during the weekends, but pubs in the UK close rather early so that was not an issue for me).

the sink in the bathroom is very small with a planchet hanging above which makes it very difficult to wash your face, as you have to bend your neck at an odd angle. Don't expect the range of toilet articles that you may get in regular hotels, such as a shower caps, etc.

Location excellent. Rooms well appointed and exceptionally clean. Good quality bed, bed linen and towels.

We thought the host was not particularly welcoming. We stayed 3 nights and were rather surprised that there was zero contact from the hosts. Perhaps interacting with guests is not a priority. One room was very warm and I would think it could be very uncomfortable in summer. The rooms could do with a coat of paint.

I went to Durham for the sole purpose to buy a puppy and I wanted a small personable establishment (they need the business especially as result of the pandemic).I could not fault it,beautifully furnished,the staff were there for anything you required and I loved the idea of having your own front door key and one could comecand go it was just perfect and the fact that they are extremely pet friendly means I would use it every time,a great experience. N
