Very comfortable room with tea and coffee making facilities which we like. Super shower and toiletries. Excellent helpful staff both in reception and the restaurant. Easy car parking facilities. Able to cater well for my celiac and allergies. Loved the top up water machine.

I wasn’t aware that the rooms didn’t get serviced each day. It didn’t matter so much as reception gave us extra coffee and milk and we had plenty of towels. I guess if we had asked the room would have been serviced but as we were only there two nights this was no big deal.

From our arrival - which started with us being upgraded to a better room, free of charge - to our departure, every aspect of the hotel, but especially all the staff we had dealings with, was a delight. The accommodation was excellent; the daily breakfast, better than many we've tasted in a long time, was scrummy, and we received nothing but the best of service across the board. The staff in particular could not have done more to make our stay a very pleasant one. One thing is certainly guaranteed - we'll be back!

Nothing could have improved on the service we received at the hotel, which more than met our expectations.

Good central location, friendly staff, comfortable bed, en suite with a bath. Very useful to have the mini fridge and to be able to leave our luggage for no extra charge both pre and post check out. Good to have a kettle in the room (at first we thought there wasn't one but we found it hidden in a cupboard along with teabags etc). The dark heavy furniture may not be to everyone's taste but modern furniture probably wouldn't suit this Grade 2 listed building. A little noise from the road but not a big issue. Breakfast was too expensive when all we wanted was a light breakfast, so just booked 'room-only'.

Good selection of both cooked English breakfast and continental buffet style, cooked food nice and hot, could request an omelette or porridge to order, pleasant breakfast seating tables not too close together. Great central location right in centre of Durham with on site parking. Room comfy bed, spacious and warm possibly bit too warm, really helpful staff gave us local recommendations for evening meal which was spot on!

Rooms bit too warm, air conditioning didn’t work very well however quick call to housekeeping and they quickly brought us a standup air conditioning unit so that was great.

We asked for a room with a city view and this was provided as we could see the cathedral and some of the castle roofs. The room was quiet and very comfortable but at the back of this large hotel in a kind of annex, not a real problem. All staff were helpful and we had no problems other than a slowish wifi with no password security; I preferred not to use it therefore given we had a short stay. The breakfast room was very attractive and spacious indeed; breakfast was very appealing as were the helpful staff. The overall location was excellent being in sight of the centre and about 10 - 15 minutes walk from the station. I rated it GOOD but really I would prefer to assign VERY GOOD.

Nothing really - just a shame about the wifi. I would prefer password protection in an ideal world.

Right on the edge of the old city, the hotel is in a great location. My room was large, the bed very comfortable, and the shower excellent. The Nespresso machine was a nice touch in addition to the usual kettle. Really great and friendly staff in the dining room for breakfast, and good porridge, too.

I hadn't anticipated the roar of traffic outside (I was in a riverside room) - bear this in mind if you choose a room facing the river, as the more-or-less vehicle-free city centre means everyone surges around the road outside. (It's not loud at night, so it didn't keep me awake even with the window open.) And the hotel is huge and confusing - I got lost several times and met lots of other guests in the same boat. Better signage, please!

Perfect location for tourist to old town. Staff were all above average in delivering professional service in a pleasant manner. Breakfast was self service with option of items being brought from kitchen. Everything was well cooked, in a relaxed atmosphere. On site parking at £11 per 24 hours which for the location I thought good value.

Room temperature had to be controlled by a combination of opening the window and using ventilation system (which wasn’t a problem as facing onto a quiet car park and it was cold outside). Might be an issue in summer, I don’t know. We had a meal in the dining room on the first evening and unfortunately we did not think curry dishes really worked however there was no problem exchanging for nice fish dish. Drinks were expensive.

The Hotel has a great location for exploring Durham, the room was very clean, the staff are very helpful and friendly.

Rooms are looking dated, dark brown furniture very old fashioned, our biggest issue was with breakfast, on the first day we waited ten minutes to be seated, eventually we just walked in, the rest of the week was hit and miss as to someone sitting you down, the cost of the breakfast was £18, the choice was very limited and the food was always just tepid, on occasions we had to try and find a member of staff to top up items of food, I would suggest eating elsewhere at a lower price and far better quality.

Central but quiet location with parking. Situated by the river with Durham city attractions within walking distance. Large rooms and bathrooms. Tea and coffee making facilities in room. Additional items if needed available in reception area. Excellent water fountain providing still or sparkling water. Good breakfast buffet.

It’s large and spread over two buildings so to get to our rooms with luggage entailed walking and using two lifts. Without luggage we used the stairs. Those less able would need to inform the hotel in advance.

Staff were friendly and helpful. We liked the furniture in the rooms, and they were well equipped too. Excellent location.

The breakfast was not too varied (no fresh vegetables, for example), and some dishes were not very tasty (scrambled eggs, sausage). When my card was charged, it was 150 pounds more than the price. This is because of the hotel holding 50 GBP/night for any spending we might do. This is fine, but we were not informed, so it was a bit of a hassle figuring this out with the receptionist (who was very nice and polite). As we did not spend any of it, it was duly returned to us, so no great issues, just the lack of information.
