Very, very good food .all the meals I had here , including Sunday lunch and supper , were excellent. The breakfast menu is broad and worth exploring . Staff here are helpful and friendly . The location is superb with riverside and woodland walks into Durham and elsewhere . Found some great eating places in the area including: the Indian Restaurant / Takeaway in Croxdale which is quite exceptional in its cooking ; the Riverside Cafe in Durham ( bit pricey but lovely - and dog-friendly ); the excellent Food Pit Street food place by the river - despite the name ! - has food outlets for the cuisine of several countries - the meals we had were rather wonderful. All these are dog-friendly. The hotel is dog friendly and has a little green area for early morning play and easy access to a lot of walks -which are supplied with dog-bins. The rooms are clean and bright , mine was on the ground floor as most are, with countryside view, and a bath as well as a shower which is another plus . Recommended . The bus service is excellent - plenty of them, turn up on time and £2.50 a trip.
Can't put anything here .

The beds were extremely comfortable and the room itself was a generous size for wheelchair users. The tv great size and easy to use, furniture is easy to move for your comfort and the bathroom/ shower was again a great size for disabled guests. Dinner was extremely good the atmosphere was friendly and the food was wonderful. The height of our stay was the staff, from the front desk, to the wait and bar staff all of them went out of their way to help with all the requests and made us feel extremely welcome. They are the reason that you should visit this hotel.
The decor feels a bit tired and could do with a careful eye over everywhere to recognise the finishing touches needed to spruce the room and surrounding area. I loved the touch of parking the car outside the room but to get from the car to the disabled room my wheelchair had to over a trough of pebbles which it did but I would have thought that as a ramp was provided they would have looked at that access and seen it may be a problem and just concreted that bit over.

The staff were super friendly and the food was great. The breakfast we pre-paid was a good standard, and we thoroughly enjoyed the dinner options. The rooms themselves were also very comfortable, and the cleaners always did a great job of tidying up the place.
On some occasions the staff weren't totally attentive, but I digress, it was usually when it was either busy or there were less staff working. One small criticism was the coffee we were served at breakfast, it was a bit tasteless, not very strong and seemed very watery.

It is a nice place to stay. Clean, convenient location, the rastaurant is good. It is my second staying. What disappointed me this time was that the weather was cold, but the heating system was off. Another thing, when I went in the morning to the restaurant for breakfast, the duty guy did offer me only cornflakes and milk. When I asked for something else more solid like eggs, he very reluctantly showed me only one side of the menu, and I had to choose from three options. Before leaving, I found that on the other side of the menu, there were more offers for breakfast. It was very disappointing.

Great choice at breakfast , good food, plentiful, healthy options, nicely presented , also at other meals . I particularly liked the Eggs Royale. Comfortable, spacious, warm, clean, quiet room with bath and shower . All fittings working well. Lovely view. Staff friendly and helpful ,who know the area and Durham. The location is superb as it is easy access to Durham - cheap and frequent buses run just outside -but also there are woods and fields all around the hotel , the river Wear plain, with a plethora of paths and bridleways heading off in all directions - you can walk or cycle into Durham through countryside or head South . The Durham downs lie to the West . There are taxis in the city and it is a short run to the hotel. The city bus system seems to work really well although it gets busy at rush hour times . The hotel is attractively decorated and clean. Room drinks etc re-stocked . I could live here ! Durham itself is well worth a visit - river views , stone bridges , trees and woodland never far away , nice friendly diverse atmosphere , people friendly , lots of eating places with a good variety of cuisines , a small city with river-side walks , plenty of shops , excellent library ,good transport system. The cathedral is stunning - original and more modern stain -glass windows and sculptures and the miners' union banners on display with all their art work- very moving to see - the cathedral is rooted in the local community- huge tower looking out over the city .A lot of young people about as the university has colleges for a lot of subjects - nice buzzy atmosphere - An open air market on Saturday selling very interesting and attractive goods of all kinds ( don't miss the jeans stall) - and an indoor market all week . The city has many older buildings in stone and some cobbled areas - the centre is car-free - there are street side cafes .
I can't think of anything to put here .

Brilliant location to visit my daughter who is currently in halls at one of the 'Hill' colleges. Wanted to bring my little dog and this place accepts dogs for a small additional fee. It's very handy for the local nature reserve where I took my dog every morning during my stay. The room was clean. The bed was comfy. There are 45 rooms outside on the ground floor which is great as you have your own front door. Not sure if there are also rooms in the main building. On checking in, the staff were very helpful and let us have our room early. The road outside is a little noisy but it didn't keep us awake. I would definitely return.
Chilly bathroom.

Convenient location. Comfortable. Excellent chef. Staff always helpful - your greatest asset!
The bathroom is a bit jaded. Premier Inn usually offers better value for money in purely accommodation terms but your bar/restaurant adds considerable value.

Breakfast very good indeed, hot food well cooked and good quality.we didnt have an evening meal so cant comment on that. Room was very comfortable only thing that was bad for us was the bath shower as we prefer a walk in--i asked about walk in for future reference and was told they only have 2 family rooms that have these. A ver ynice quiet nights sleep in a queen size bed.
as stated the bath shower was not to our liking husband being 67 and a little bit iffy on the feet !!!. when it was used it was nice and hot.

Had the Sunday dinner and was absolutely delicious with a fab selection of veggies. The room was comfortable and has everything you need, with a lovely view of the fields in the back. Was a good location for what we needed and just a short taxi ride to Durham. A lovely trail walk very close to the hotel by the river - we didn't walk the whole trail, but it was much needed after a long drive. Sorry, no images of the actual hotel, I was very much taken by the views and surroundings 🙂

Location, being dog friendly, plenty of free parking, huge choice for breakfast.
Really bad smell from the drains, which we couldn’t get rid of, even though we plugged all holes on the bathroom. Haven’t downgraded because of it, as they did offer a change of room, but we chose not to bother as we were only there one night and it was already late. But it does surprise me that the room cleaner doesn’t report it and get it dealt with. We left the extractor fan on all night, closed toilet lid and all plug holes, but it made no difference.
