Beds were really comfortable. Breakfast spread was vast and staff were really friendly and welcoming. Also loved the pool/jacuzzi etc. and that we could get a treatment at the spa! Really liked the location - being on the outskirts of town gave us the ability to go out and explore as well as getting into town if we wanted.

Very minor, but there were just a few fixtures and fittings around the place that needed sprucing up but, whilst I noticed these, none were big enough to impact our stay and the height of the summer season is not the time to be painting or repairing

the room (243) was wonderful room, spacious and was above expectations. both evening dinner and breakfast was wonderful. only thing if being a little picky was the sausages. poor tasting and lower quality.

nothing about the hotel was terrible. however, one of the guests had an argument and banging on their room door in early hours, then shouting in carpark at 03:50, police arrived, and all under our open window. as no air conditioning in the room meant we had to have our windows open for coolness & fresh air. no blame on the hotel, just interrupted sleep and you do not expect guests to behave in this manner.

Our room was in the Carriage House rather than the main building which was simply decorated with comfy bed and a very nice bathroom. Food was very good with plenty of choice at breakfast. Nice spa with indoor and outdoor hot tubs. It's about a half hour walk into centre of town with a good selection of restaurants if you don't want to eat at the hotel every night.

The pool is very small so does get a bit tricky negotiating other people if more than 2 or 3 in. On the plus side though, your length count can be very impressive!

Location and parking excellent. View of the older 1800s parts of the House are fantastic. The 1970's not so much! The Georgian feel of the building still exists and the grand stair case is wonderful. The Rooms were excellent, very clean, warm, with good facilities. Dinner was tasty for 3 out of 4 of us and Breakfast was excellent.

Whilst Dinner was tasty for 3 out of 4 of us, the waiting time was ridiculous, 45 mins from order to first course and then an equal wait between courses. We entered the Dining room at 19:30hrs and it was after 23:00hrs before we left. The catch up time was great for a group of friends that haven't seen each other for a few months, but for one it was way to late to eat and resulted in a very broken sleep.

Love this place. It’s a lovely hotel. Bedroom we had was fabulous and I will be getting it in the future. Staff on reception lovely. Very clean and wonderful swimming pool and just love relaxing.

There wasn’t any beer on hand pull apart from John Smiths. Or Newcastle brown in bottles. The bar and sitting area in the bar needs to be bigger. The bar man was running around like a headless chicken. There were two weddings on. They took over all seating areas so not much seating for residents I’m afraid.

I was quite satisfied with our room and more than happy with the staff, who were friendly and efficient. The room was large enough for our needs, with the usual facilities, TV, tea/coffee making facilities, hair drier, iron/ironing board. Bathroom , again, well appointed with shower over bath, and shampoo. bodywash/handwash. The toilet was very close to the wall making it seem a little cramped. The meals were good but not outstanding. Our evening meal (six people) was rated very good x1, reasonably good x4 and 'wrong choice' x1. The young man serving us, named Ben, was excellent, being friendly, polite, efficient and patient. He was all this and more the following afternoon and evening while we attended a wedding function. Breakfast, offered a good choice of hot and cold food, including English breakfast items, plus continental meats/cheese, cereals and pastries. The quality, again, was good but not outstanding. The catering manageress, who told us she hailed from the West of Ireland, was also, very friendly and efficient.

The common complaint for most hotels, is the 'rip off' price of a glass of wine. Being charged a price for a glass of wine which would enable one to buy a bottle and a half of the same wine in a supermarket never goes down well. One can put up with most drinks prices in such a captive audience, but for some reason, wine prices applied are insulting. Sitting in the bar area on the Friday evening, a number of our party had to go and get a jacket or jumper etc. as it was uncomfortably cold.

Staff couldn't be more caring and helpful. Very generous buffet breakfast Very clean sauna Lots of gym facilities Nice area to walk around. Park nearby also.

Jacuzzi in spa on a timer so you can't activate it. Was like just sitting in a bath. Changing room for gymnastics/ pool was very old and tired looking. Also could be cleaner. My room had hairs in it around the sink and bath from...? The water didn't drain well from the shower at all so I had to have a quick shower t. Unpleasant grouting too. Dusty room furniture. Bed mattress was saggy. However, the room I moved to for the second night was much better

Decorating work was taking place which detracted from the ambience. That said the bar and restaurant had improved considerably since we last visited a few years ago. Dinner was good, breakfast less so. The head waiter was friendly and helpful as were the staff throughout the hotel which was a big plus. There was a good range and choice of food at breakfast but the hot buffet was as is often the case lukewarm and congealed. That said the choice of fruit juice, fruit, cereal and pastry was very good. All in all a pleasant stay that provided very good value.

We like this hotel. Room was comfortable. It was one of the old rooms that needed a makeover. But bed was comfortable. And nice view over garden instead of a courtyard. It was also quiet to say there was a wedding on. Food ok not thrilled this time.

The duvet cover didn’t fit the bed size too small. No bar staff all in doing wedding . People whom were staying there had to wait for a drink. My pie I had had no meat in it. Breakfast soon went cold because plates weren’t warm. Need a plate warmer. If they have one they need to use it. Don’t know if because they we’re short of staff due to wedding going on but also need to think about other guests paying to stay there.

Excellently located for the venue of the event we came for at Darlington Golf club. Easy reach of the train station. Beautiful and well kept large grounds with ample parking. Check-in was quick and easy. Property interior with beautiful period features which flows well into the more contemporary sections of the building. Room was clean and decoration simple but ok. Had the usual basic facilities and mattress was relatively good providing us with a good rest except for period of disturbance from one of the neighbouring rooms. Breakfast was better than expected compared to what we've experienced in the chain hotels. We didn't have time to explore the other facilities including the swimming pool.

Direction given to our bedroom at check-in could have been better received if delivered patiently but we eventually managed to find a staff to redirect us after wandering around for a while in the wrong section of the building with our heavy luggage. Heating was off by the time we got back late at night and we had to tuck into bed earlier than we would have. However, heating was otherwise good. External lighting in the area walking back from the big car pack at the rear could be better in some areas. We were kept awake for sometime from around midnight by some inconsiderate guests who appeared under influence. Hotel staff responded promptly once alerted and acted swiftly to summon decisive help from security and law enforcement. We all then had a better night sleep.
