The staff were lovely, food was good, restaurant and main building looked well kept and clean, nice cozy snug to sit in on a rainy day, the grounds well kept, that you could walk around, and plenty of parking spaces. Bedding and towels very good quality brilliant white. Bathroom bright and plenty of room. Room was big.

Room was in need of update, we booked a feature room, thinking it would be four poster bed in main house, that the pictures showed, but it was a room in the old converted mill, that had the old wheel system, through the room. The room smelt damp, musty and mouldy, and was in need of decorating and carpets desperately need cleaning, the main door needed cleaned full of cob webs and dirt, the outside little patio needed swept, we needed to clean the couple of chairs that were there before we could sit on them, it was a shame that just a little sweep up would of made a big difference and more pleasant to sit outside.

I booked 2 rooms, one for me and my partner and one for my son. Both were double rooms. It was such a reasonable price, I wasn’t expecting the hotel to be of the standard it was. It was set in extensive, beautiful grounds, which sadly we didn’t have time to explore as we were only staying one night as we were going to an event in the evening. The rooms were of good size with lovely white bed linen and pristine white towels in the bathroom. The bed was comfy and I had a really good night’s sleep. Breakfast is buffet style at weekend. Everything was fresh, both hot and cold. If they run out of anything the staff would rectify it immediately upon request. I checked in online before we arrived so there were no forms to fill in on arrival. The staff were pleasant and friendly. Everything ran smoothly.

This hotel was a cracking find! Our rooms (55 and 56 in the old mill house) were together, and it was like having our own family suite. The rooms themselves were a little tired but had plenty of character, and they were clean, comfortable, and quiet. The breakfast was good value, and the choices were varied. The staff were super friendly and attentive.

The restaurant options were very expensive, and as a family of 5, we worked out, with the options available, it would have cost us around £150 to eat there. I understand it's a hotel and spa, but when you can pay just £79 for a double room, then it's £17.95 for fish and chips, it makes you thankful for the McDonalds 5 minutes up the road.

Stayed for one night during a work trip. Room was a little tired, but clean, warm and had everything I needed. It's in a lovely location and it's a charming building. Room was a little warm, but I was able to open the window. It was a good size too. Perfectly fine for a one night stay. Breakfast was basic, but nice. I didn't have any hot food, but there was a fairly wide selection. There's plenty of free parking available. As I only stayed for the one night and left after breakfast I didn't experience everything on offer, but would stay again if I was in the area.

Been before and location and grounds definitely made us return . Husband had slight accident, gashed arm badly on door handle. First aider came and cleaned and dressed wound and supplied change of dressing too. Apologies were made for blood on sheets tho..

Nothing to sit on in bathroom lovely tho it is a d I made this suggestion when we were here last time.. had to fetch garden chair in. A plastic stool would be ideal in bathroom and plenty of room for it.

Staff were very pleasant. Bed was very comfortable, albeit the winter weight duvet made it too warm! Main areas. Including public WCs, were clean. General the food at the evening function was good, with exception being the roast beef which was tough. Everything else was fine. We didn't use the spa facilities so cannot comment.

Our room (41) was dark and overdue for a redec. Overlooked by trees which made it darker. A brighter paint palette would help. Windows were jammed, no fresh air or ability to release the heat. Paint was chipped on window and dirty in corner of glass. Toilet seat was loose. All reported to reception on checkout. There was no lift to our floor which gave me a struggle with my back, hips and knees. Everyone on our table enjoyed their food, so was only the roast beef that let the chef down!

The staff are always lovely and friendly and helpful. It is always lovely and clean. The food is very nice it has beautiful grounds. The spa is lovely and relaxing and you have the option to use the gym if you are staying at the hotel. The location is also great, I love being close to nature.. Pub at the top of the road and nice places to walk.

It no longer has a pool.. There aren't smaller meals, like a lite lunch or sandwich or options for smaller breakfast if you were to take children. Or even just a bowl of chips on their own. I found it difficult to pick what to eat. There is No fridge in the rooms.. This would be handy to keep my diabetic medication in, a sit need to be kept in the fridge.

Good location just off the motorway and close for the show Kynren in Bishop Auckland. Staff friendly, welcoming and helpful. Tea and coffee facilities available in the room. Clean room, just the shower as noted below.

One of our rooms smelt very badly of stale smoke to the point that there was no way any of us could sleep in that room. I told the receptionist and she (didn't catch her name) and her collegue Elliot where very helpful and moved us to another room. Very happy with how it was dealt with. Shower could do with some anti-mould spray.

Having booked a double room we were upgraded to a suite in the stable block. What's not to love? Such a beautiful spot with lovely gardens to explore. An immaculate, modern shower room and fitted carpet in the bedroom (love or hate but I love).

The WiFi didn't extend to the stable block but for one night it wasn't a big issue. The plain pale carpet in our room (poor choice) was in need of a shampoo though daily cleaning couldn't be faulted. One of the two TVs had no signal. The overall fabric of the hotel needs an upgrade including double glazing.

The breakfast was great, it had a full English menu and Continental The lady on arrival was very helpful and even changed my room as she realised there might be noise in the room that was booked. She was very kind. The hotel is really beautiful, the views are amazing, and the room was lovely. The hotel was a stately home and has many grand rooms and period features, with modern, comfortable hotel rooms built on.

Definitely need proper coffee with the breakfast. They only had instant powder! This is the first time in several years where I haven't had either filtered or proper machine such as cappuccino. Even the small B&Bs I've stayed at have a filter machine at breakfast, included with the stay! Even worse, when I mentioned it at Reception before I left, the girl argued with me, instead of just acknowledging my feedback.
