I received a warm welcome when I checked in at the bar, so after leaving my luggage up in my room, even as a lone female traveller I was happy enough to head downstairs and enjoy a couple of pints in the bar before heading out to a gig at night. I remembered that there was something shared bathroom-wise in my booking but on entering my room, I found a sink and a shower so I only had to leave my room to use the WC. There were 2 of them shared by however many rooms were on the floor, I didn't count how many rooms there were in the corridor but it can't have been any more than half a dozen. The toilets were clean and I never had to queue tor them. I was in a single bed and it was a much softer mattress than what I'm used to but I slept like a log, right through the night. I wasn't entirely sure of the bar's opening hours but I returned back to my accommodation at about 11pm after being at a gig at Stockton Globe and the bar was already closed so there was no noise to worry about (this was a Thursday night). I slept with my windows closed as the forecast was rain so I never heard any noise from outside either. Would I stay here again? Yes, happily.

There's no breakfast option which didn't bother me, I was up and away early so wouldn't have had time for one anyway. For those who would want breakfast, there are available options nearby.

The only problem I had was an hour before check out we received an extremely loud bang on the door. It took me literally a few seconds to make my way to the door and before I could open it the person on the other side was trying the handle to get in I assumed it was my brother however it was the house keeper. Considering this is a shared bathroom property the door could have been unlocked as someone had gone to use the toilet and someone else could have been in the shower which had no curtain so I found the trying of the door handle VERY inappropriate had it been past check out time I would understand however we had a full hour until we had to check out.

The hotel was beautiful, very comfortable and provided most of what we needed. They were good at communicating and helped with advising where best to park my car on arrival and friendly staff to welcome the guests. The beds were exceptional and very comfy. Brew making supplies provided and plenty of them. Very warm once we turned the radiators on. Self check out was very very convenient. Loved the fact we didn't have to walk through the main pub if we headed out for food or to go to the car. Lots of entertainment provided and although they said it was karaoke until early hours, it was quite quiet in the building. Most of the noise we heard was the drunks messing about outside from other clubs, not the hotel itself. The rooms were cosy and we would definitely stay here again!

Two minor issues, one was we ordered food from local takeaway and the hotel had no utensils to eat with, so we had to nip around the corner to the other local takeaway for a wooden fork but as this hotel doesn't serve food we weren't too put out by this just a bit inconvenient. The other thing we struggled with was the noise but that's no bad reflection to the hotel, what do you expect for being in the centre of town. Now we know what it's like we can prep next time and just take some ear plugs as it wasn't too bad but someone jumping in a glass bottle bin at 3am with someone shouting at them, wasn't welcomed haha. Non of this would put me off returning though. Just be mindful when booking.

You get what you pay for it’s a £40 room which is clean and comfy central in terms of location staff are always friendly and polite as we stop there at least once a month and it is good value for money

They was a fight outside first time in all the times we have stopped there this has happened however the bar staff dealt and tried to defuse the situation as best as they could but someone clearly could not handle the drink, to be fair this was not a problem with the venue it was someone who could not handle the drink however we have stopped here on a Sat night at least a dozen times in the last year and normally never any trouble and the punters and staff are friendly enough, not like some of the rowdy venues we have experienced in other stays in other towns

The room was clean, bedding and towels were fresh and tidy. Access was simple, Wi-Fi free. Facilities were shared but we had a sink in the room so we didn't have to wander for water. We were within walking distance of everything we were interested in and street parking nearby is free from 5pm.

The pub the rooms are above shuts early in the week and was no bother, but there's a very noisy club across the road that goes until 4am. One of the mattresses had a dip in in from being sat on.

What a great little place for a great little price - I had the ensuite room booked to attend a gig in the venue directly opposite. Easy check-in, able to pay with cash, lovely clean room, very comfy bed, easy to check out at 6am the next morning too. Also, nice to stay somewhere with working radiators and heat in the room as most places have the controlled panel on the wall that never works. Can't fault this place and I will definitely stay here should I be going to any other events in Stockton. Brilliant - cheers!

Nothing - it was a perfect stay!

The staff are very nice and very helpful, the hotel is very clean with daily housekeeping, excellent location, thriving bar 🍻 at good value prices, lots of restaurants and take aways on the doorstep.

There is nothing to dislike, weekends are a little noisy outside but that's to be expected seeing as the Hoptimist is in the centre of town.

You couldn’t get a better location, centre of town. Come and go as you want. My room was clean and comfortable, although it’s shared bathroom. On the first floor there are three shower rooms so there’s no problem getting ready. Bob the land lady is spot on. Thank you. PS. See you in April.

You must appreciate it’s an ageing property, so if you want a 5⭐️ this is not it . Appreciate what you’re getting for your money. At the end of the day it’s just some where to leave your bags and sleep. Very happy customer. ⭐️

This was tremendous value. Such a reasonable price. Feels safe, secure and clean. The woman behind the bar was really helpful and a good laugh. The bar is friendly to have a drink in. I'd be happy to go again. If you are looking for a good friendly bar The Golden Smog is worth checking out too. IF you are looking for good food the shawarma cafe up the street is tremendous.

The only main downside was that if travel in a vehicle, there is no parking on site. Parking is maybe 60 yards away with private parking or public use carparks For me, the mattress was a little too soft but was comfortable
