The location is a bit remote from any points of interests or small towns, but the grounds and features of the resort itself make you want to stay. The landscaping and lay of this hillside property is truly beautiful. Without leaving the resort we saw plenty of wildlife... monkeys, parrots, toucans, iguanas, etc. Despite reading some reviews that the food was not too highly regarded, we never had a bad meal... my wife and I rate the food and drinks a solid 9. The open-air restaurant is lovely., especially in the evenings. The breakfast buffet offers 10 or 12 nice items daily, as well a someone who cooks eggs and omelets to order. The huge freshwater pool is beautiful. We used it for hours at a time... as well as the swim-up pool bar, where drink prices are inline with any nice facility. We also spent time at the two thermal pools and used the mud bath facility one occasion. None of these features was every overcrowded... we were often alone or part of a small number of people. The steam hut is really amazing... a simple wood shack located directly atop natural boiling steam features. You can hear the boiling sounds beneath you as you take in the steam. Our personal cabin was beautifully done inside with a nice small deck. The bed, pillows and linens were nice too. The bathroom was plenty large for two. The a.c. worked very well. The cabins and rooms are all scattered along a hillside with one main winding road through the property. No cars are allowed, so you can either walk or use their free shuttle service at any time. We stayed 3 nights here as part of a 10 day Costa Rican getaway... we could easily have stayed longer. Many guests used this resort as a base to explore other day trips. We really enjoyed just relaxing here all day and all night. This was out fourth visit to Costa Rica. We have stayed at many different locations at a wide variety of prices per night, for what it has to offer, we felt this place was a real value for the money.
As others have mentioned, there is a lack of shade in the pool area.

It has been one of the best hotels I’ve ever stayed at. The location is amazing just near a hot spring. The rooms were very clean and the view was breathtaking. The thermal pools were fantastic and the staff was so nice especially Genesis at the restaurant. We absolutely loved it there. I wish we could have stayed there longer.
We loved everything, the only two things that we did not enjoy was the food that we ordered at the restaurant because it was not so good, and the road to the hotel was in bad shape and some portions were difficult to drive as it had been raining a lot. You need a 4 wheeler to drive there comfortably.

El Borinquen was amazing! The road to the resort can be a little off-setting, but once you arrive you realize that it was 100% worth the travel. The staff was incredibly accommodating, helpful, kind and easy to communicate with. The rooms are clean and comfortable. The grounds are breathtaking. The pools are clean and very fun, and the mud bath was one of the highlights of our trip to CR. The restaurant was delicious, again the staff was fantastic. Breakfast was simply amazing!!! We can't wait to go back, and are already planning when we can do this!
That we didn't get to stay longer!

The property was really beautiful. We were glad we got a shuttle instead of renting. It was much more relaxing. We went zip lining and horseback riding the prices were fair. We did not realize the 23% fees/ taxes were 13% taxes 10% fees/ tips. So we tipped on top of that. We loved the servers so it’s okay but it would have been nice to know. Communication seemed a little on the need to know basis. The beds were super comfortable. The hot pools were great , short little hikes pretty, pool beautiful. It was a magnificent setting. It really was an excellent experience.
I cannot think of a thing.

Beautiful surroundings with amazing wildlife, hot springs and pool, lots of tours and activities. Great staff in the restaurant and amazing tour guides. Thanks to Ronald, Memo and George!
Beware of Google maps directions as we got lost on the way there. Tried to call the resort for directions but no one answered the phone! When we finally arrived, as we were checking in the phone was ringing and nobody bothered to answer it, what??!! I told the young man checking us in that he should see if someone else was lost but he ignored me😐 Also, sheets were not very soft.

The small hiking trail around the hotel was very nice. Really beautifully laid out. The hot springs, bubbling mud and hot steam were also impressive. It makes you realize that you are very close to the volcano or gives you the feeling of being on the volcano. The complex and the little houses are very beautiful and well maintained. Yes it's a really nice hotel with a great pool and spa facility.
The waiting time at check in and out could be shortened if an additional receptionist were there. You get horribly bitten by some small insects and it lasts for a long time. An anti insect spray is a must, especially in the evening or in the morning when you want to sit comfortably on your terrace. The food in the restaurant does not correspond to the overall impression of the facility and is definitely in need of improvement

The resort setting is beautiful! It was very peaceful. The cabins were quiet, clean and comfortable. We saw spider monkeys, howler monkeys, toucans, coatis, agoutis and green parrots on the property. We enjoyed the hot tub and sauna. The food was good, but not the best we had in Costa Rica. It was the perfect ending to our vacation! It was only one hour and fifteen minutes to the Liberia Airport. The road wasn’t too bad for our suv. It was worth the effort to get to this resort!
We lost internet for a few hours but otherwise it worked great!

Amazing stay for the weekend! Loved the mud bath and hot spring pool area. Being surrounded by quiet and nature was beautiful and just to walk around the property was pretty. We saw oropendolas in the big tree as well. Close to the pozas coyote and rincón de la vieja park which we went to as well. Good included breakfast. Big spacious room and hot shower.
My boyfriend is tall and the bed was a little small for him. Would have been nice to know that we had to leave our car down and couldn’t park directly near our bungalow. Wasn’t an issue but just had a lot in the car we had to take out. But other than that was very comfortable and we had amazing stay!

This is spectacular one of the kind place. But they testing high prices, which is well to high. Is far away from everything and remote. Should be 25% less. A specially we are also spending money for food etc. The good thing I admire…, they are NOT tourists trup and don’t take advantage of remote locations. Room service DEFINITELY to experience and over priced.
Can not park next to bungalow. The transportation service they offer is SLOW. VERY SLOW. Overpriced room service. Boring breakfast

Stunning property. Loved the pool and mud baths. Did horseback riding with Oscar, he was great. Also ziplined which was amazing. Our guides were so much fun, made it a great experience. Food in restaurant was lovely, nice selection at breakfast. Monkeys and tons of birds to see while sitting in the restaurant. Got our exercise each day walking up and down to pool and mud baths. Steep hills but a lovely way to see the property:
Think it was the time of the year that we chose but there was barely anybody there. Pool bar closed at 4.00 and bartender was not at all friendly. Snack bar by the pool did not have enough chicken fingers for 3 orders and again staff was not friendly. Everyone else that we encountered on the grounds and in the restaurant were lovely. Would recommend that you purchase snacks, etc before getting there as there was no little snack shake. Road into property is pretty rough. Gets dark very early in Costa Rica so by 6.30 felt a lot later and as there were very few people there it was a long night for our kids. I presume at busier times of the year with more people around it would have been more lively.
