The Prinsenhof is a beautiful old building, sympathetically restored into a very comfortable hotel. We arrived very late at night, after a long journey, to be greeted warmly by the young man on reception who showed us to our room overlooking the well kept gardens. The room was very quiet and well decorated; spotlessly clean with everything functioning properly. Molton Brown products were in the bathroom which had a huge shower and good lighting. There was good storage including a double wardrobe with slippers and bathrobes plus a large laptop safe. Also within the wardrobe space was a mini fridge with complimentary drinks (water, cola, wine, lager) and snacks (nuts, crisps) which were replenished each day. The bed was super comfortable with good quality linen and the room was peaceful for a good night’s sleep. The hotel boasts a renowned restaurant, but we ate in the bistro, which had a good selection of freshly cooked meals and light snacks. The finest asset of this hotel are the staff who were all friendly, efficient and helpful at every stage, from housekeeping to reception and the bistro staff.
Plug points with built in charging ports would be handy. The hotel is an old building with corridors on many levels and better signage, such as the direction of reception would have been helpful in the first instance.

The staff are all excellent. From Reception to Dining area to Room Service all were superb. Possibly the friendliest, most happy staff I have encountered in a hotel. They are a huge asset. Our room was the standard option, but the decor is beautiful, it was spotless and comfortable and we had a view over the rose garden which was a dream. For us a major selling point for this hotel is the view over the landscaped gardens which are adjacent to the hotel. We had breakfast there all 3 mornings because the dining area was a beautiful space and the staff were so welcoming and the food, hot and cold, simple and nutritious was top quality. We had dinner one night and again that was delicious.
We totally loved everything about this hotel so my ‘dislike’ is tiny. We found that the pillows were too soft - there may have been a more robust option available but we didn’t ask so it is our fault as well.

The hotel was excellent- It is beautifully renovated and in an excellent, central location. Every staff member was incredibly friendly and we were all impressed with the breakfast buffet and restaurant.
Both are rooms had relatively open bathrooms- enclosed WC but showers that were visible from the bedroom. All was beautifully designed and with lovely toiletries, but our teenage children would have liked a little more privacy

The Hotel is part of the Prinsentuin, a marvelous little rose garden with an beautiful sun clock. The room we had gave us a direct view on the garden. The room is modern, the bed and the bedsheets were some of the best quality ever encountered in a hotel. The cherry on top of the cake was, that all beauty products were from "Acqua di Parma", so the whole room had a nice smell. For future stays in Groningen I will not hesitate, to book another time a room in this hotel. The friendly and professional staff needs a special mention too, rarely I have experienced so dedicated professionals in a hotel.
To find a flaw I have to be picky and it’s a flaw that has all the same origin. Since this is an historic building there is no air conditioning, that’s o.k. But then you cannot open all of the windows since two out of three are permanently closed with screws and the last one you also can open only half the size. To cope that, there is an ventilator in the room, but it’s a little bit too noisy to be of use. Fortunately for us the temperature was not that high, and it did not bother us. But if you suffer from heat and you visit in summer, you should take that into account.

The hotel was located in a quiet corner of Groningen old city. It is a former monastery that is surrounded by gardens and within walking distance of the Martini Tower and the old town. I really enjoyed my room that had a great view of the garden. It was spacious and comfortable and had a great bathroom attached. I also enjoyed the minibar which was included. Staff were very friendly and helpful.
The hotel is spread out so staff were very happy to show us to our room. However, it was a bit confusing for us as we always cut through the restaurant on our way out so do orient yourself first. It was a pity that the book about this historic hotel was available in Dutch only. It will be great to have an English version of this book which discusses the history of this hotel.

Both the hotel and the room were outstanding and we liked the mix of the old and modern style which was very fitting to the hotel. The room itself was very spacious and we had a lovely view of the so-called Prinsentuin - the park adjacent to the hotel - which is also a famous sight of Groningen and which we would highly recommend to check out. The breakfast buffet was beyond our expectations, with many options of spread, juices, pastries etc. to choose from. We also tried one of their restaurants (brasserie) and were very satisfied with the service and food. The hotel and restaurant staff were very friendly and professional and made us feel like home. A nice touch to our stay was the fact that we could rent bikes from the hotel for free plus we had a little bar in our room with complementary drinks and snacks that were being refilled everyday. The hotel is located close to the center of Groningen and all of the sights are within reach either by foot or bike. All in all, we loved our stay here and we would always choose to stay here again when back in Groningen.
Nothing to complain about! :)

Beautifully restored historical building done with taste and elegance. Very well appointed comfortable rooms and bathrooms with lovely touches such as drinks on the house replenished daily. Excellent location accessing all points of interest in the old town on foot. And superb breakfast.

Very pleasant and helpful front desk. We were able to leave our car out front while we got settled in our room. Room very comfortable and lots of counter space in the bathroom. We had a nice view of the terrace from our room. Beautiful historic building in a great location--quiet street across from a park, yet close to center of town.

Prinsenhof is in a prime location and looks beautiful in the night light. The room was spacious and the staff was friendly. There was a generous and delicious selection of pastries, cold meats, cheeses, and fruit for breakfast. Check in and check out were very simple and streamlined.
For the price, the room amenities were limited. There was no hand cream in the toilet and although the minibar was complementary, the selection was disappointing - only water and coke for non-drinkers. The in-room couch cushions had not been cleaned and there was some stuff between the cushions showing that it had not been cleaned thoroughly.

The room was quirky and lovely, the location couldn't be more central - everything within walking distance, breakfast buffet delicious in the sunlit former chapel with stained glass windows. The historic buildings and location were beautiful and fascinating.
The only downside really was the parking situation - valet parking is available but pricey and the more affordable option is a 600m walk away. But I think that just is the trade-off when you have a mediaeval building in a central location.
