The history around the castle grounds was quite interesting and a photographer's playground for capturing memorable pics. The view being we were so high on a hilltop provided an incredible panorama of the valley and city of stark white houses and red-tiled roofs. The staff was amazingly accommodating to our questions and needs. One gentleman was able to locate a place in Lisbon for us where we could enjoy a night of fado at A Severna even though it was a Thursday evening and not the weekend. This answered my personal longing to see a fado the night before leaving to go back to the US.

I wished we could have enjoyed the full breakfast in the morning of checkout, but we had to catch an early flight back to the US. The staff provided basic box lunches for us instead.

For setting and history this hotel scores very highly. The room was large and the bathroom excellent and there was a nespresso machine but don’t expect a lot of frills. The restaurant severs up hearty no nonsense fare. The traditional stew, described as a soup (Sopa Caramela) was a meal all by itself. The bream was unfussy and tasty and the noodles with prawns was also good. The crème brulee was home made and excellent where as the chocolate temptation which sounds exciting looked like a commercial chocolate fondant. The castle next door is great for an evening wander and sun set views before dinner.

If there was a weak point it was the breakfast pastries, you would expect the pastel de nata to be good but it was poor, other elements such as cheese, hams, yogurts were good, hot food was OK, just not hot. Note, there is no heating so a jumper is advisable for the evenings, if you need to warm up a bit there is heating in the bar and library

Pousada de Pamela is set in a truly beautiful location, offering breathtaking 360-degree views, especially at sunset from the terrace. The pousada’s historical charm adds to the experience, making it a fantastic base for exploring the nearby castle. The rooms are warm and comfortable, with real eiderdown duvets providing extra cosiness in winter. Some of the staff were exceptionally helpful, going out of their way to assist, while others were less attentive than expected. Breakfast was excellent, with a generous selection of breads, spreads, fruits, yoghurts, eggs, bacon, cakes, and more - plenty to suit all tastes. Though we didn’t try the restaurant for supper, the morning meal was a highlight.

A few small details could be improved. There was no coffee or tea-making facility in the room, which would have been a welcome touch. The lack of an electric outlet near the bed made charging a phone slightly inconvenient. There was also a stain in the bathtub, which was disappointing in an otherwise well-presented room. Overall, the stunning location and comfortable stay outweighed the minor inconveniences, making it a great choice for those looking to enjoy a historical and scenic retreat.

The Pousada Castelo de Palmela is an amazing place. The Pousada is part of a Castle from the time of the Knights Templar and its right next to the ancient chapel of the Castle. The views of the surrounding towns of Palmela, Setubal and the National Park Arrabida are fantastic. The rooms are large and comfortable but don’t expect luxury as this was the rectory of an order of Warrior Monks. From the history of the Castelo and with what the Pousada offers if you’re traveling in this part of Portugal I highly recommend booking a couple nights to stay and explore!

I loved everything about the Pousada Castelo de Palmela!

Excellent breakfast, with multiple choices, fresh fruit, cheases and meat, a variety of hot and cold, bread, pastries. Everything freash and well presented. The setting around the courtyard inside the old monestary was really something to enjoy. Both evening dinner and breakfast is served in the same area. We had the meat on the menu. Prime choice!

If you are staying during high season, parking might be somewhat limited, at least if you want to park near the actual entrance to the posada. Not a big problem though, there is always something.

The location is great, right next to the castle. Parking was right out in front of the hotel. The staff was friendly, including the hardest working waiter in Portugal. We had a nice view of the valley from our room. It was a very quiet, relaxing stay there. We had dinner at the hotel restaurant and the dourada was fresh and grilled perfectly.

It’s not the hotel’s fault, but there was an odor coming from the paper mill in Setubal. I guess if the wind blows from the south, you get that up there.

Beautiful renovated castle, hotel facilities were very nice, front desk staff very friendly and bed was comfortable. Very nice venue with open courtyard in the middle. Breakfast was well appointed and offered a lot of variety.

Only downside was thr air conditioning in the room was not great, more like a fan vs real air conditioning so room was stuffy at night and with no screens on window couldn’t leave it open without getting flies and mosquitoes in the room.

The Pousada Castelo de Pamela, is situated in an outstanding location overlooking Palmela. The hotel is a national monument and intertwined with portuguese history. It offers a sense of history and grandeur.. The staff were very friendly and efficient and made my stay very pleasant. I would strongly recommend the restaurant which offers quality dishes and very good local wines.

Nothing..stay was perfect

Good location set within a castle on top of a hill overlooking the town. Good rooms which are large and same old style as all pousada's, good breakfast and bar but can't coment on the evening meal as we didn't eat there of a night.

Hotel is high so if you walk down it's a long way back up. All paths and roads are cobbles and are slippery when wet. Parking is shared with the castle which is open to rhe public so parking can be tight. Ignore the old man who tries to charge for parking as he's a local who has been at this for years, parking is free.

Hotel is stunning sitting on the top of a hill overlooking the town, in the castle grounds. Breakfast good as in any pousada. Didn't eat dinner so can't coment. Staff where all good and recommended to any body wanting to stay.

Hotel parking can be busy as it fills up for the castle visitors, ignore the old man trying to charge you for parking as he's trying it on. Hotel is on top of a steep hill so if your walking down to the town please bear in mind the walk back up. Cobbles can slippery when wet as all roads and paths are made of cobbles
