Luxurious room overlooking the castle, and a restaurant/ inn feel at the front, where with the other guests we could drink and eat, and enjoy the quiet evenings after all the castle visitors have headed off. Very extensive breakfast buffet in the morning to fuel you for the days adventure. The hotel is also part of the scheme where you get a pass for local buses, trains and ferries. It’s brilliant- absolutely the best way to explore the region and cut down on traffic. Evening BBQ on second night may have been a one-off - it was certainly a great way to end another days walking!

All in all a pleasant stay, close to Königstein Fortress. The room had linens, towels, soap and shampoo, hair dryer. For an additional fee, you can order breakfast - 13 euros per person ( not included). Also near the hotel is a kiosk where you can buy sausage and potatoes, beer and more. There is also a mini-golf course nearby.

Though on Booking check-out is on 11, actually it is on 10 am. So be prepared to leave at 10 am. Also it’s quite difficult to to get to the hotel if you come there without car. Bus connection is only every hour and you have to walk through the forest and cross the road with fast running cars without pedestrian crossing. The last bus comes on 19. So the late evening walks are not the option, unless you are ready to find the taxi. Taxi will cost 21 Euro from Königstein centre. And there are also Express bus - 3 Euro one way, but it’s only till 18, till the Festung Königstein open (last admission at 17). So we decided next time to book the hotel closer to river within easy walking distance to the transport connection.

Breakfast was very good. Nice selections. Location was key to Königstein. Bed was fine.

It sounds like a detail but old 50W incandescent bulbs were used for lights next to the bed. Because the frame of the lamp is in aluminum, it burns if you try to orientate the lamp after some time left on. Not great for a lamp used for reading. There is an easy fix if LED bulbs were used, with a close to 10 times lower energy consumption.

The location is good. There is parking for 3€.

For the price you pay, it was a ripoff. No fridge, safe, or kettle/coffee/tea in the room. The rooms haven’t been updated since probably the 70s. I was surprised that there were only basic (German language only) channels on the tv. The Wi-Fi didn’t work in our room. We hoped to speak to a receptionist or someone working there to get tips on where to hike, but we didn’t see anyone until we had to check out. The restaurant (one of the reasons why we booked this place) was closed the whole time we were there.
