Breakfast was well laid out for self choice with main course selective off a menu, ordered and cooked by the kitchen. That meant the food was hot and fresh. Evening meals were selective from a menu of good choices. Food was ordered at the bar and serves, to my reserved table, with speed and pleasantly.
The noise of the kitchen extractor fan. Just outside the windows of No. 10 bedroom. It was not switched off until 11.30pm and back on at 6.30am both nights. It reached 58 decibels at times. Generally 43dB. And that was through double glazed windows and thickly, closed, curtains.

Interesting, olde worlde hotel. Wordsworth used to have a drink here. Room was spacious. Comfortable bed. We stayed 2 nights and were given a free drink if we chose not to have our room cleaned on the second day. 8 minutes walk to Grasmere village. Bus stop across the road with frequent buses to Keswick, Ambleside and Windermere, free if you have an oldies bus pass.
Full English Breakfast could have been better. Some items were not hot. Bacon was undercooked and poached egg hard, at one breakfast and black pudding was hard and dry.

Room Superb. Dinner Superb. Breakfast good but sometimes eggs only aired. Bacon, Sausage etc hot. Overall everything was very good. Staffs brilliant. Room excellent.
The system where you get a free drink if your room was not cleaned. My phone is not up to date and because it is now computerised I was not able to do this, therefore I had to have the room cleaned etc which was not necessary when it was spotless to start with. I think it should be that you can tell the hotel what you would like. Computerisation works if you are able to understand it. Older people get left behind. It made me feel that because we are old we could not enjoy a free drink, and had to have our room cleaned when it was not neccessary.

Beautiful setting, clean, spacious room & bathroom. V comfy bed! All staff very friendly & helpful & nice relaxed atmosphere overall Quirky & interesting decor. Excellent breakfast choice
It was very busy on the Saturday night with it being in the middle of the summer holidays. We decided to book a table there that evening but 3 of our first choices were unavailable 😕 I had a vegetarian starter as a main (roast carrot & mozzarella cheese ) but felt it would have been tastier had it been served warm. My husbands 3rd choice of fish & chips was ok Also the small round tables are a bit cluttered with the condiments & cutlery stored on them also. However, serving staff were also pleasant & helpful.

The room number 41 was very spacious along with bed size, clean, welcoming, quiet and good easy access from us parking at the rear car park. If we had needed to access via hotel up stairs, along corridor and then out again at rear to access the accommodation it would have been very awkward.
It didn’t have a great flow re the overall hotel building due to it being an old building but the variable rooms in the lower hotel area gave a nice cosy feel and atmosphere. Some of them were not very accessible for the breakfast area. Having to get own cutlery, condiments etc from garden shed when eating in garden not a ‘good touch’ and would be nice to have them offered.

It was very 'olde world ' style and most acceptable. Room was comfortable and clean and warm enough. En-suite was slightly cramped as my wife is party disabled but we had not stated this at application so my fault. Location was very good. We couldn't fault the staff who made sure we had all we needed and even helped with our celebrations. Best were waiter Tony and the young Aussie manageress.
Layout of property was not clear and didn't really suit Mrs M who finds stairs awkward but again I don't check it out. Even if we had a ground level room we would have to go out the back door and walk around to the front to go to the dining area.

Breakfasts and dinners were good with enough choices. Our room, although a bit of a trek from the front of the Inn, was very nice with a lovely view of fields, mountains and sheep! We enjoyed having a cocktail (after a day of sightseeing) sitting at our window watching the sheep and their newly born lambs! The staff were all very efficient and pleasant particularly when we had a bit of an issue one evening with a couple and their Asberger son who behaved aggressively to us because he thought we were making too much noise outside our room (we were just talking to another couple we had just met)! Someone from reception came upstairs and diffused the situation with this very aggressive young man who tried to stop us shutting our door to get rid of him because he stuck his foot in the door! His useless mother did NOTHING to alleviate this rsther upsetting incident! We would recommend this Inn to friends back in Canada!
Our room was way in the back of the Inn and was a bit inconvenient as we had big bags to haul about but we got round this by only using our small bags for the few days we were staying! The view from our room made up for it!

The location and facilities at the hotel were great. Staff were helpful and friendly and the service was fantastic. Check in was easy and the room was spacious and well furnished, beds were comfortable and bathroom was modern and clean. Large carpark made parking easy and safe. Breakfast was lovely with all diets catered for. There was plenty of room to accommodate all guests eating so you did not feel rushed or crammed in.
The only small criticism was the family room was an annex behind the main hotel which was a bit tricky to access through the hotel, for some the number of stairs may be a problem with luggage, although there is a quick short cut through the courtyard at the back of the kitchens. This also made it a bit noisy in the morning with deliveries and staff in and out of the kitchen but overall it did not detract from the stay and I would definitely stay again.

Room, Food, Garden, Location, Staff, Atmosphere, Service. The hotel was perfect for our stay in a beautiful part of the country. It isn't 'posh' but who needs that. Most of us like to feel relaxed where we stay and it is definitely that, so a perfect place to spend a few days with family and friends. The local bus stops immediately outside the hotel so didn't see much point in driving anywhere which helped when choosing a walk. There is no need to pick a circular route when a bus will take you back to the hotel.
There was nothing that I could say I didn't like.

It a lovely old pub that has been updated and expanded to provide modern comforts. Our room was nice and big and had a big and comfortable bathtub which was perfect after a long hike in the rain. Restaurant had a good pub feel and breakfast was included. We enjoyed the Swan and the area so much we extended our stay.
Most of the staff were good and eager to please, but one of the bartenders came across as lazy and unhelpful. (Couldn’t get an Irish coffee at 9:00pm because the coffee machine had been turned off for the night.)
