The Old Library starts with big advantages - to get to it one needs to travel by car north through lovely scenery or travel north by train along a most scenic line or come south having just disembarked from a CalMac ferry at Mallaig from a Scottish island. Then there is its precise location, in lovely Arisaig! This hotel on the sea front is small, cosy, well furnished, with friendly staff and good food. It does have squeaky beds, so be warned! At dinner, we were very fortunate: as well as well cooked fish and wild venison, the proprietor had chosen to play the music of that wonderfully uplifting Scots band Skipinnish at a suitable low volume in the dining room. For us - all perfect!

I should mention squeaky beds!

This is hands-down the best place we have ever stayed - and we've travelled the UK and Europe for 3 months in the past 3 years! The location is SUPERB and just stunning, with absolutely gorgeous coastline surrounding the area. We had a seaside view room and it was lovely to have a cup of tea by the bay window in the morning to watch the sun rise! But the absolutely best thing about the Old Library is the food - we had dinner and breakfast with them, and it was some of the best quality food we've ever had. It's not cheap, but you get what you pay for. We also really appreciated the great suggestions for whiskies!

It was a lovely place and spotlessly clean. The hotel smelled lovely and fresh throughout. The owners were very nice, friendly, helpful and welcoming. The rooms were well equipped with plenty of toiletries, tea and coffee facilities, bottled water, storage etc. Definitely value for money. The breakfast was one of the best we have had. Very tasty and very well presented. Would HIGHLY recommend it and will very likely be visiting again.

There’s is nothing you could say negative about it

My husband and I loved this property and were sad to only be there for one night. David and Penny were wonderful and welcoming. The food in their restaurant was absolutely delicious as well. The room was spacious and well-appointed. The bathroom was updated and the bed was comfortable. It was so cool to stay in a place so old and with so much history. The view was beautiful as well and the neighborhood was great to walk around. This was a wonderful place. Thank you!!

This excellent old building is situated right on the seafront in Arisaig. David and Penny gave us a very warm welcome and showed us to our room. This was warm and cosy with delightful views across the lock. The room was furnished with beautiful old furniture which gave it an antique charm. The meals served were excellent. First starters I had Grandads secret recipe Gravadlax which was truly divine. Then I enjoyed a large piece of halibut in a creamy crab sauce whilst my wife had chicken in a creamy leek sauce. Both were beautifully prepared and both were so delicious we had to try the desserts. We were not disappointed. The sticky toffee pudding and the chocolate fudge were amazing.

One minor comment concerned the antique bed. Given the fact that I believe it had bed springs, these had become tired and the bed sagged to one side. However we were so full of delicious food we still had a reasonably good nights sleep

Room was decorated extremely tastefully and en-suite was spacious and well equipped. Room bigger than many more expensive hotels and certainly nicer. Everything spotless and just what you want. Our room had lovely outlook over jetty and sea. Dinner was nice too - lovely sea food and local lamb rank- generous portions and healthy vegetables beautifully cooked. Staff very warm and pleasant. Not as pretentious as some other establishments nearby but better in my opinion! Highly recommend.

Nothing but note it’s a restaurant with rooms.

The hosts were helpful and responsive. The room was big enough for 2 people for 2 nights. Dinner at the restaurant was very good. Breakfast was hearty. The room was comfortable and clean, with really nice towels and a warm shower. Overall, a great place to stay in Arisaig! We would definitely return.

Lots of creaking floor boards when people walked around in other rooms. Otherwise, everything was great!

The location is superb and the rooms comfortable and homely. Food in the restaurant is excellent and the breakfasts delicious. The hosts and staff were very welcoming and helpful. There are beautiful walks on the doorstep and it’s worth staying a few days to enjoy the peace and beauty of Arisaig.

Whilst the bed was adequate a mattress update and topper would enhance the very good standard of everything else in the room.

We were very positively surprised about the size of the room which even had a little sitting place in front. The shower was great with super thick and comfy towels and the dinner in the Inn was as good as promised.

First we were a bit apprehensive about the fact that we had to park the car in front of the Inn at the curb. But it was no problem at all and Arisaig seems to be a really safe place. We even left our Golf bags in the car.
