We had an amazing time staying at HakoBA. We stayed in a private room on the dock side. The room was super cozy and comfy. All the amenities are very clean. The kitchen is AMAZING if you like to cook. The location couldn’t be better. The staff is incredible! The reception staff is extremely friendly and helpful. We truly felt welcome and at home. On top of it all, the design of the hotel is gorgeous. As someone who write about architecture and design, staying there was a delight.

The walls are thin, so if you happen to stay next to guests who speak loud in the morning, it can be annoying. But that’s not a big issue.

Although the dormitory is more like a hostel, and is priced as such, the service is pretty exceptional, and feels like a hotel. The lobby has very professional receptionists who can speak English well. There are lots of amenities: chargers, razors, nightwear, cotton swabs, towel + face towel etc. If you want to stay near the bay, you cannot beat the location. It's right next to lots of food places and next to the water.

The facilities themselves aren't the best. The toilet area had a very peculiar smell when I stayed there. If you are someone with accessibility needs I would also avoid this place as I had to walk up or down stairs to get to my dorm, since it's a pretty crazily designed building (which isn't bad, just a bit different). The "rooftop" eating area isn't rooftop and actually pretty small, but it's actually not bad. In the bed the light is very old (a small lightbulb) and doesn't actually illuminate the bed very well.

As a solo female traveler, this hotel exceeded all my expectations. Staff- They were very polite and efficient. Always ready to offer their support and provided all the information at the time of check in. Facilities- They provide all facilities that you may expect from a hotel. Very satisfied. Cleanliness- Cleanest hotel that I've been in Hokkaido. Comfort- Excellent Value for money- It is much more affordable in comparison to the facilities being offered. Location- 3 mins from the Tram station. Easy to find as well.

Everything about this place was spotless and accommodating. Sure, there are a lot of beds in the dorm room, but each compartment was quite private and cozy. Everyone was more or less respectful as far as noise. Even if the lights stayed on in the room, it would be dark in your compartment with the full curtains. Location is perfect. 20-25 minute walk from the train station or a few minutes on the easy to use and cheap tram. It's located practically on the waterfront close to the Red Brick Warehouses, a couple of Happy Pierrot (one is almost next door). It's a 5 minute walk to the grocery store and a 10 minute walk to the gondola to go up for the viewpoint. You can also hike up in about 40 minutes. Also very close to the bus that takes you to the ferry terminal.

Only slightly annoying part was the bathroom and showers for me being on the floor below the dorm room. Wasn't a big deal and I take nothing away from the 10 I give this place.

The accomodation is very well located right next to the Kanemori warehouses and Lucky Pierrot. Beds were confortable and the place itself super well decorated. Rooms were quite big! The buildings were amazing filled with history, especially the Bank side. Laundry equipment was on top and easy to use!

Breakfast is very small, not a lot of choice and since it's a curry restaurant... It's basically curry stuff. If you're OK with this, go for it. Otherwise, book it without breakfast and grab your own somewhere else. Bathrooms are shared unless you want the "maisonette" rooms which are sooo expensive. I wasn't able to go into the Playroom, it did not want me to let me go in.

- Staff was very accommodating. I told them that I will arrive late and that it is okay to cancel without refund. But he was willing to wait despite me walking over there in the rain - The amenities are plenty, esp the bathrobes and towels - The elevator makes it quite convenient to transport luggage

- Someone was snoring so loudly on one night that I couldn’t sleep properly. I would suggest making earplugs available to help minimize loud noises

Very clean and nicely accommodated. Fresh, clean towels are provided every day, tooth brushes, razors, hair brushes are for free. The lounges are comfortable, the personal always very helpful. Bus and tram stations, as well as shops and sightseeing spots (Kanemori Red Bricks, Museum of Northern People, Hakodate Magistrate, Meijikan) are within walking distance. The capsule beds are spacious and each has a safe installed above the bedside.

I always seek out interesting places to stay, and the fact that HakoBA is in a converted bank building gives it a lot of character! Even though the bathrooms are communal, they are clean. The other guests seemed very considerate of each other. We made good use of the kitchen space and the laundry facilities. I also found the location to be right in the heart of things we wanted to do in Hakodate.

Everything was great as is.

- towels are changed everyday - extra security for women’s shower room (you have to use your key card) - kitchen area at roof top - play room / common area - accessible to some sightseeing spots - it’s near the marina and they have their own restaurant - cleanliness of the shower area and toilet rooms

- if you are catching a morning flight then you have no choice but to walk all the way back to the station (about 25 minutes) because the trams operate past 6:00 am

The hostel is close to pier and warehouse tourist areas, and many good restaurants are nearby, Very convenient! Also, it is not far from Hakodate mountain cable car station and walk by 15 minutes to arrive. The hostel staff is very friendly and clearly introduce their facilities. The hostel common are is quite large and makes me feel relax and comfortable to stay. Also, the dormitory room is clean and the bed is comfortable. Best recommend for budgeted travelers to stay~~
