This is the 2nd time we stayed here in recent weeks and travelled an extra 3 hours on our journey just so we could stay here again. It's what I would call old-fashioned charm. Despite the stair carpets being a little worn (which does not detract from the overall experience), the rooms we stayed in on both occasions were lovely. The beds are very comfortable (double on our first visit, two singles on our second). All of the staff we have met have been very friendly and welcoming and the cooked breakfast in the morning is really good for taste and value for money. Needless to say, we fully intend to return as soon as we can :)
Being senior citizens, dragging our heavy cases up the stairs is slightly demanding. Staff offered to help on both trips, but it would be helpful if there was some sort of lift arrangement, even if only for bags. However, I don't think the building age or structure would really support such a thing. But hey ho. We managed, and it did not put us off wanting to stay here again.

Excellent staff, and the cottage was truly lovely, with no issues to mention. Upon our arrival, there was initially no pressure in the taps; the issue was promptly resolved (the boiler was turned off). The location is ideal, offering close proximity to nature and fresh air. The restaurant served very good food, and the breakfast was satisfying, although the price was somewhat high per person. If your cottage has a fully equipped kitchen, you may prefer to prepare breakfast yourself. Additionally, fresh eggs are available free of charge at the reception. Overall, an excellent place to visit. We certainly look forward to returning. Thank you.

We stayed on Easter Sunday after walking Scafell. We were greeted by Emma, who was friendly, and although busy with the reception, bar and restaurant, was still very attentive. Breakfast the next day was just the right size for us, full English and although we didn’t have any, there were also cereals fruit, juices etc to have as well. This time served by Katie who was also friendly and attentive and could not have done more for us. Our room was spotless, the bath was an added bonus after a long walk up Scafell, the grounds were absolutely beautiful with lots of wildlife walking around. Would definitely recommend!
Only thing was possibly that the bar menu was slightly bigger as I struggled to pick something as was a little bit dated

Staff are superb, so friendly, accommodating and attentive. Food was delicious. We had breakfast and dinner (including vegan options) there both days - super chef, great menu and delicious food which was different both evenings. Building itself and the grounds are beautiful, and the chickens, peacocks, geese etc which potter around the grounds lovely to see. The room was big and comfortable and the nights were quiet. We all slept well. Great parking, for free, too.
Some of the lighting in some of the rooms was a bit darker than we would have liked, particularly for the 81 year old travelling with us, who was in room 15. Room 15 was also quite cold because the thermostat for the room was in the corridor outside near a radiator and the corridor got warm and switched off the heating when the room itself was cold. There wasn't a good offering of bathroom essentials. The shower had no shower gel, and there was no shampoo and conditioner offered. The only option for the shower would have been to use the hair and bodywash that was placed on the sink. Some of the rooms lacked moisturiser too. Thankfully we had brought our own, but you expect these to be provided in a place like this.

The view and the location were lovely and peaceful. We loved the house arrangement; the interior design felt very cosy and welcoming. The staff was helpful when we called for inquiries.
Some suggestions for; Rooms/ House (Ennerdale): The rooms were nice and comfortable; however, we struggled with excessive heat at night. Although we adjusted the thermostat, it reset automatically, so the room remained hot. A booklet with house rules and guides, including instructions on controlling the temperature and using appliances like the oven, would have been helpful. Bathroom: The bathroom locks and hanging hooks were broken. Kitchen: The kitchen could use additional cleaning products, such as cleaning sprays and reusable wipes. Dishwasher tablets and salt would also have been helpful.

Beautiful old country house with amazing views. Our room was very large with a handy table and chairs. Coffe and tea making facilities in the room were very welcome. The manager, Warwick, was very entertaining and very helpful with his local knowledge. The food was absolutely wonderful with plenty of variety and nice large portions which was very welcome after walking many miles over the wonderful fells.
Our room was very dark and quite dismal and despite the beautiful views at the front of the building we were in room 1 at the back of the building which unfortunately looked over the car park and the bins 🥺

Very impressed by the location and Irton Hall had the appearance of a Stately Home with peacocks on the lawn. We were greeted by a very friendly member of staff , Warwick, who made us welcome and directed us to our accommodation which was a a 2 bedroomed cottage a short walk from the Hall. The cottage was very clean and well equipped and ideal for a longer stay than the one night we had booked for. In the morning we were greeted by 4 of the peacocks who were obviously well used to guests. Exceptional value for money and would definitely stay again.
Nothing not to like. Just wish we could have stayed longer.

It is absolutely stunning and utterly charming with its natural age related blemishes that have not been overly repaired. It’s an ancient building and should not be ‘perfect’ they have a perfect balance of keeping it clean and presentable with little signs of originality here and there. No signs of mild or damp anywhere.
Everything, we didn’t expect the animals either, they were a fantastic bonus. Every member of the team was naturally charming, warm and very friendly. The food was all fresh and delicious.

Rooms spacious, clean and comfortable, excellent bathrooms and spa bath. Beautiful building and grounds, great location for local walks or short drive to Wasdale and Eskdale. Cooked breakfast excellent and friendly staff. Bar and restaurant comfortable and food good. Peacocks, chickens, turkeys, geese, pigs and sheep all entertaining. There are self catering units and the b&b rooms and I would choose the self catering in future though a shame to miss the breakfasts!
No hot water by 8.15 on Sunday am, don’t know if ran out or fault as only the lovely breakfast ladies there till checkout time. Definitely a b&b not hotel, heating off in the middle of the day and no lounge area. Bar expensive for beers and open 5-10pm but last orders at 9.15 and we were the only ones keeping the staff up by then both nights. Self catering solves these issues for us and I would otherwise thoroughly recommend.

The grounds were amazing, with peacocks and hens roaming around. The restaurant was awesome, and the chef personally came out and suggested to us alternatives from the menu. Many reviews complain about cleanliness. However, I did not find this an issue as, in my opinion, the two cottages that we lived in were reasonably clean.
Only thing is that we lived in the cottage and it lacked toiletries.
