Based on anonymous reviews and photos of the exterior of the property, we had low expectations. We were wrong. Yes, the Britannia is not a gorgeous piece of architecture but the room was nice, clean, the bathroom spotless and well-provided for. The mattresses excellent. The neighborhood quiet. And given that it's Bolton, nothing in town is very far away. By car, about 3-4 minutes to the heart of the town. And, the staff were excellent.

Nothing not to like. My confused American head forgot that "first floor" in the UK is in reference to what, in the US, would be the "second floor". Searched for our room on the "ground floor" for a bit before remembering. Note to Americans: the first floor is up a flight of stairs!

The receptionist on afternoon shift of 25th December 2024 was exceptional ,friemdly qnd full of beautiful smiles, did all he could to calm us and keep us comfortable while we wait for our room......the room was clean ,comfortable and had few things we needed....good parking space ...we enjoyed our stay to ne honest.

Getting my room ready took too many hours ...i had a kid and it was not funny! The property looked better on the inside than the outside. People smoking outside beside the door still allowed the smoke get into the property each time another person passes and the door opens....proper smoking area should be made available for smokers.

Staff very friendly Room positively gleaming soft white towels plenty of tea and coffee

Unfortunately this is down to me not necessarily the hotel. I suffer with a bad hip one side and bad shoulder other side so I use memory foam topper which I normally take with me but I didn't bother this time and the bed was too hard for me so didn't sleep well. The other thing were the pillows they were too fat and plump for me. Again it's something I normally take with me but again didn't bother ( only one night). I'm sure it would have been fine for anyone else.

Stayed at this hotel before and it’s basic but worth the money. Public areas were clean and tidy, apart from one table in the restaurant that hadn’t been cleared and it stayed that way until we left the bar area at about 10pm, don’t know if it got cleared later on. Our bathroom bin hadn’t been emptied and had a small amount of rubbish in it. The bed was fairly comfortable - although an extra set of pillows would’ve been nice. Staff were friendly, check in and out were straightforward. Plenty of car parking spaces.

Nothing really.

Price - expectations Excellent ✨ Breakfast-right quality, volume, price, TIME 👍 Car space, reach and watch - excellent. Location Excellent to reach and to rest both ⭐️ Congrat to Bath tap! and equip’s practicality. Staff - really kind, attention-, and helpfull Spec thank you for bar, hall and dining enterieur, connections and services. Car park has good reach, watch, and space! This questionary is well setted!

Maintenance Road, barrier caller acess, bathroom tiles, mould, needs attention. Accepted conditions much rather than higher price ! Purifieing, minimalizing is showing levels of cleared up styles the most.

Rooms were comfortable for our needs, friendly staff. Complaints were dealt with concerning other residents.

The driveway to the hotel needs resurfacing. The hotel itself needs a revamp, looking a bit dated. Not enough pillows in rooms, holes in quilt covers. Lighting good be improved in the rooms as no main lights only over bed and dressing table. No front to dressing table drawer. Food over cooked, tasteless, and overpriced, some customers may only have cereal in the mornings and 1 course for evening meal so £12 for breakfast and £15 for evening meal for each person is a bit over the top. My mistake was not taking photos.

Didn’t take breakfast. Room was good size. Clean & appeared to be well maintained. Bed was comfortable. Tea & coffee was provided. Iron, ironing board & hair dryer and a fridge. Bathroom good size, clean with bath. Shower over bath was exceptional. Easily controlled, temperature maintained at level set. Excellent water pressure with variable jet options.

Free WiFi would have been good. Corridor to room a little austere. Wooden roller shutters to window was a little strange. Would have preferred traditional curtains.

For the price it was excellent value for money. For £20 more they let me check in 3 hours early which was a god send as I'd just had a 15 hour flight. Staff were polite and friendly, plenty of parking room. Didn't have the breakfast for an extra £11 but it smelled great. Gets a bit of a bad press thus place but I would defo stop there again.

No USB point in room to charge phone. From the bath you could see under the toilet rim. That could have done with a bit of a cleaning. Apart from that...value for money all day long.

The surrounding gardens were beautiful, a real pleasure to have a leisurely stroll around , and the driveway had a rustic appearance giving it real character, something of a French chateau. Walking into the hotel reception you are greeted with the mandatory scent you get from all the best budget hotels, I believe its eu de lambert & butler. The staff greeted us with smiles and having a security guard on the door really settled our nerves. The room was set to a 70s theme and the cream/brown tiles/decor in the bathroom was modern and innovative. A bottle opener attached to the sink desktop was very useful as I tend to ( like most people) have myself a bottle of chilled beer from the mini bar whilst taking a number 2. The deep pile carpets had various colours and patterns on it which again I thought was another great modern twist. The artwork on the wall was a nice touch , I believe it to be the work of the Bolton version of Bob Ross ,and setting the picture on an awkward slant again was kooky and rather cool, also if you close the bathroom door hard enough, it can detached itself, giving you the option to set the picture to your own desired angle. The towels on the bed , folded to the shape of a pigeon along with a fruit pastil placed on top of the pillow really was the icing on the cake .

Nothing! It was all beautiful 😍

I have read a lot of reviews about this hotel and quite a few people give bad feedback, Maybe it is a little tired but remember what you are paying, I have traveled all over this country and still do and I have stayed in places that are more expensive but not as good, My room was clean comfortable and had free parking, There is a decent pub nearby and takeaways and food deliveries so all in all it was ok for me.
