Very friendly staff and accommodating. We arrived on our cycles in the pouring rain (arrived Thursday 7th August 2025) - Hannah behind the bar checked to see if we could access our room early and we could which was wonderful. Our cycles were safely stored. Dinner in the bar was served by friendly courteous staff. The room (Rm 5) was perfect - we slept with the sound of the village church bells chiming softy in the background. Breakfast was a delight and again the most friendly of George Team Members helped us secure our booking for our return - thank you Kelly. Looking forward to our return on our way back to North Devon. We’d highly recommend the George.

Can’t really think of anything

The George is an old fashioned Inn that has been really beautifully re-vamped. Fabulous decor, the rooms are bright, airy, well fitted out with storage but still spacious and lots of plug sockets plus tea and coffee making facilities. Huge comfortable bed. Very clean throughout. Excellent bathroom and shower, again, very clean. The staff were all really friendly, polite and efficient for everything we needed. Very good breakfast, lovely coffee (a must for me first thing). The George really exceeded my expectations, great value for money, very quiet at night and a fabulous stay. Also it's halfway on the Devon coast to coast cycleway, makes it an ideal midway stop over.

Everything was first class.

Really nice Inn in Hatherleigh. The bedrooms were really excellent. Very large and comfortable bed. Tea and coffee in the room. Great ensuite with nice hot and powerful shower. The decor throughout is excellent and of a high standard. Could leave our bikes locked up securely inside. Had a very good evening meal and a great breakfast. All the staff were so polite and friendly. I really liked the George Inn. We stayed here as it was roughly halfway between Ilfracombe and Plymouth as we were cycling the Devon coast to coast.

We would definitely stay here again if we are in the area. The standard double room was spacious, clean and had plenty of storage. The bed was comfortable and the bathroom a good size with a powerful shower . Decent Full English breakfast. Staff friendly. Enjoyed the band - Wreckords - who were playing on Bank Holiday Saturday evening - the pub had given us a courtesy call to advise there was music - which was good of them. This was a traditional pub in a quiet village. You need a car as it is interesting to explore the rural villages which are off the beaten track, but you are also within 1/2 an hour's drive from the coast or Dartmoor National Park.

Room was immaculate and full of character, very comfortable and nicely furnished and decorated. Nice toiletries in bathroom and plenty of tea , coffee, biscuits etc Bed very cosy. Pub was good and in a pretty location in a nice village.. Staff were very friendly and helpful . Would definitely return

Smokers in the doorways of the pub so you cannot avoid the smoke when entering the building Dogs on furniture in the pub (bedroom itself was spotless and not an issue as was dining room where dogs weren't allowed). Found these things difficult as I suffer witha sthma and these things are triggers

It was a lovely place to stay. The building, atmosphere, food, very clean, quiet Next time I would book a room closer to the entrance Staff kindly carried out stuff to our room and looked after items that needed to be kept cool.

One of the window blinds cord was a bit tricky and too long dangling within reach of my 4 year old. It was not a major problem ust extra hassle.

The room was spacious and there was secure entry to the room locations via key. The location and room was quiet. Decor was appropriate

Had a room with skylight windows and blinds don’t cut out all the morning light. Tricky to find the parking. Turn at the co-op go around the little statue of men and sheep and follow the rear lane that runs to the left behind the pay and display car park.

Looks old world but modern as was rebuilt in 2010 after a fire so best of both worlds! Nice room, comfy bed, nice tray of tea/coffee biscuits etc. we had a good evening meal. Breakfast was fairly basic but adequate.

Nothing significant but we struggled a bit with the heating controls in the room and bathroom so things were a bit chillier than we would have liked but it wasn’t a deal breaker for us.

We spent 4 wonderful days here. Our room was spacious and very clean. The food served was delicious for breakfast, lunch and dinner. The pub has a great atmosphere and the staff are lovely. Our room had a great bathroom and I fell in love with the size of the bath. We had fresh towels each day. Our room had a nice sized TV. Overall we loved staying here and would happily stay again the next time we're visiting family.

The shower was brilliant in our bathroom & the bath was huge. The bathroom was a very good size. The bed was very comfortable & the whole room was very clean. The staff were very friendly & helpful. Breakfast was included in the price & the staff were very happy to provide all we asked for. The pub seemed very old but apparently had burnt down in 2008 but had been rebuilt very well & has kept its old fashioned charm
