We hadn't intended on booking this hotel, it just came up randomly on a search the day before we were travelling ( last minute break) and we decided to book it. We loved everything about this hotel - location was fantastic. It is in very quiet countryside with a few walks to do in the local area. Breakfast was brilliant with lovely croissants, great egg dishes but the granola/yoghurt was our favourite. The bed was absolutely enormous in a really big room which stayed cool throughout our stay, despite being 24 degrees outside. the bath products were great and smelled fantastic. Dinner was just as good, with a lovey range of main courses to choose from, including a couple of vegetarian ones. The staff were all lovely and really helpful, especially when we asked to add a night on. We loved our stay so much, we added an extra night on!

Absolutely nothing could have been better! It was all brilliant!

Our room was Attic room (up 2 flights of stairs)which was tastefully decorated as was the whole Inn and was warm and inviting, extras included coffee bags, local teas and baked biscuits. Honesty bar if required for after hours drinks or extras. Bed was very comfy. Breakfast was cooked to order from a great selection, we also dined there for evening meals and the food was better than your average pub meal. Large car park and easy access to our accommodation. Staff were very friendly but professional. A great find in the most gorgeous village in Dorset.

Bathroom on the small size but included the extras large fluffy towels and bathroom toiletries.

Location and facilities

Arrived for breakfast at 9.15am as booked. Breakfast took 50 minutes to arrive which was not a problem and the breakfast was of an issue excellent standard. Problem when we fetched coffee after eating to be told that we maybe shouldn't take this as our checkout was due for 10.00am. we hadn't even received our breakfast by then do felt that the remark from the lady was harsh and unfair. When we checked out less than 10 minutes later two other guests were checking out at the same time so presumably they were not reprimanded for this. It was a shame as it was a thoroughly lovely place and really good food.

The superior double room we had was large and very comfortable. The bed was great and the pillows were excellent. The restaurant was lovely, with well-spaced tables and both dinner and breakfast were very good. All of the staff were exceptional: friendly, efficient and professional. If you are considering booking, you should be aware that this is a very dog friendly hotel. We were not travelling with our dogs, but there were five dogs in the dining room at dinner the first night (we didn’t mind at all).

All of the food on the menu was still fairly wintry and heavy (in late March) and we would have appreciated a lighter option, although everything we ate was delicious. The pizzas (served on a Friday and Saturday evening) had a rather strange selection of toppings, which put us off trying them.

Dinner was suburb. The chuck burger was excellent and the sticky Toffee pudding was to die for. As it happened there was an 'Open Mic' night scheduled on the evening if my stay. What can i say about that. This was a brilliant night with some very talented musicians. I use the word musicians because this is what they were. Exceptional people from young to old. Great night. The room was very clean and modern. The shower was fantastic. The bed was so comfortable i would have like to take it home. All the staff were pleasant, friendly and helpful. I would recommend the Fox at Ansty to anyone. Great value for money.

It looked like it had recently been refurbished and was lovely. Great shower and comfortable bed. Lovely sized room. Main reason we booked was it was dog friendly and he was welcomed. Location was nice and quiet but nowhere around so ate at hotel.

Breakfast was full English or eggs Benedict etc. sausage/bacon bap. Other criticism would be lack of toast (if you wanted something simply ) I was told no toast for me as I had a Bap. My husband had 1 slice of toast with his full English . Only pastry was croissant but no butter and only 1 portion of jam between 2.

The staff were very friendly and helpful. It was such a calm relaxing place we loved the atmosphere there. Very clean and lovely rooms.

On the first night it was a bit too relaxed for what I wanted because it was already late and wanted to get food quick so I could get my daughter to bed but they took a long time to serve us even though we had booked a time and we waited a while for our order to be taken then it took a while for the food to arrive but I was in a bit of a rush and if I wasn't which people usually are not when going out to eat I would have not minded the wait and relaxed with a drink

The rooms are very well appointed. Very clean and an extra touch of cookies and fudge is much appreciated. Easy parking. Extra milks etc easily accessible and an honesty box for snacks/soft drinks. The staff are very friendly. We love staying here.

Our dinner on Sunday evening was a bit disappointing. The service was rather slow and a few items were unavailable.you felt the roast was rather a leftover from the lunch service!! Huge yorkshire pudding with a small portion of pork!! And no crackling left ☹️ Not up to the usual standard.

Small problem we were in a top floor room and there is obviously a bird problem as we were not able to open the windows properly as the apex of the roof was covered in bird droppings , it would be good if housekeeping Could sort this out a health hazard!!! The windows were filthy too….. other than that everything was great…..

Hotel was all we needed for a last minute get away. We had 3 days to look around Dorchester and surrounding district. All were within 30mls Poole Weymouth Dorchester and Portland including Portland Bill. The hotel offerred a comfortable bed good food and drink for two weary souls and two dogs. The dogs were made welcome throughout the hotel grounds and bar and short local walks kept them happy.

There was nothing to dislike really, but a good tip would be to ask for a fan on these hot sticky nights as there is no AC.
