The price was right for the room I stayed in. Most other hotels in Avalon are much more expensive. The staff was friendly and helpful. Erica seemed to be running a one-woman show and needed to be summoned for check-in by phone -- a sign directed me to call by phone for assistance. She arrived in seconds). The room was very clean. The gardens along the walkway ascending to the rooms was a nice design feature. The Catalina Island Museum was right next door, and a Vons grocery store was a block away.

The stairwell going up from the lobby was quite dirty. The stairwell handrail was so dirty, I didn't want to touch it. The stairwell and railing need a very serious cleaning/painting, and regular attention thereafter. Some small sections of room wall were worn and needed repainting. These are minor issues, because the room itself was quite suitable for our 4 night stay.

The building is very cool. Lots of stairs, so be prepared for that. Windows are soundproof but it's nice to have them open for the breeze. Air conditioner is a wall unit, but worked fine. Wifi can be spotty, so if you need it for work, hotspot off of your phone. Breakfast is coffee and oatmeal made out of a machine, but it is good. The upper apartments are amazing and where the real value is at!

Everything about the people who worked there and the hotel were just fine. There was a family who let their kid scream running down the halls after 10:30 p.m. and that made many hotel patrons upset and they came out to tell them to be respectful. All of that was very loud, but it was not the hotel's fault.

WOW! The Casa Mariquita is a lovely property with a gorgeous Spanish-style exterior. Traditional curved clay tiles line the roof; windows and balconies have decorative ornate railings. When we stepped into the hotel's arched entrance, we were immediately reminded of classic Spanish architecture: painted ceramic tiles make up the floor and stair steps. Lush tropical foliage can be found planted on each level of the property, adding to the Spanish feel. A breeze was blowing throughout the property; perhaps the winding staircase helps to facilitate the movement of breezes. The view from the roof (see pic) is exceptional. Check-in was a dream. We arrived before noon and hoped to only have our luggage stored while we explored Avalon. We were grateful to be told that our rooms were already prepared for us, and we received our keys. There was no extra charge for this despite the check-in time being posted as 2:00 P.M. The property does not have an elevator, so we carried our luggage up the winding staircase to the third floor. Our rooms were #11 and #17, and both were comfortably appointed. Each room had an enormous queen bed (I'm an enormous queen, so I know what I'm talking about!) with an elaborate headboard/footboard combo. Our mattresses were supportive and comfortable, neither too firm nor too plush, and the bedding was snow white and clean. Most of the furniture was elaborate. In room #11, the carved-stone sink was set in a grandiose vanity with a large mirror mounted on the wall behind. The towels were stunningly white. A hair dryer was present. The bathtub had a square high-pressure rain shower head that delivered hot water practically instantly. The cabinet which held the large-screen TV was fancy and sturdy. The closet's sliding doors opened to reveal a dorm-size refrigerator. There was free coffee available in the lobby for breakfast before we explored Avalon.

There is absolutely nothing about the property or our stay that we did not like. It was, as Mary Poppins is quoted as saying, "practically perfect in every way."

Loved my view and the massage chair was a perfect surprise and much appreciated , as well as the robe and slippers. Love the charm and style of this hotel. I love that they let you leave your stuff until you are ready to leave the island and it is safely locked up. All staff was very friendly & helpful

I didn’t like that I could never figure out how to change the channel on the big TV ( I could have asked again but didn’t) and no coffee pot in the suite. Prices are a little steep but I get it for the island.

Over all we had good experience. Room, shower, bathroom were clean. Water pressure was good too. Bed was okay, its pretty firm mattress which some people might not like it. And bed frame was squicking. Staff was super friendly, lady up front lets us leave our carryons in storage till we need to pick them up. Its so helpfull because check out at 11:00 am and our furry was leaving at 3:55pm...it was nice to not carry things around. Thank you !

Amazing view! The hotel is in a Spanish style with a lot of greenery. It is super close to all locations and not on any heights, just 1 minute from Vons. The room had everything: super comfy and clean bedding, slippers, bathrobes, an iron, shampoo, toothpaste, and a hairdryer. I was impressed, and the most important and adorable part: we got the room 2 hours prior to check-in. Amanda at the reception was super friendly and kind. Breakfast was good, and the coffee and hot water were useful. Bananas and apples were a nice bonus. They don’t serve tea, so take your own tea bags. The hotel is very quiet at night. It also has great windows, and our room had an ocean view and rooftops. There are cute little patios open to relax from 7 am to 7 pm. Absolutely adorable, highly recommend!

My family and I enjoy everything very clean. Very nice. We just love it. And customer Service you guys are the best starting with the front desk specially“MICHA”(gracias) Room service OMG those girls are a dream come true making my family and I very welcome and special. PD: I forgot my wallet in the room ! Just when I was about to get on my boat one of your employees call me and told me that she was going to be there in three minutes so she can give me my wallet . Oh my God I feel so thankful with her. You guys are lucky to have employees like them🥰

Accommodating staff. Great rooms with comfortable beds and pillows. Very convenient location, with access to the main front street scene a block away. Overall very pleased. Would definitely return.

Fixtures could be updated. Broken mirror in our room was repaired with tape. Bathroom smelt like urine. Excess light entered from top of curtain. Was able to block it out with a couple of towels.

I loved how I wasn’t bothered too much. Loved that the staff didn’t bother us at all. We went during the off season so it was a little less busy than I expected it. Jennet at the front desk was amazing. Extended out check out and made sure the cleaners knew about that as well and not to bother us. They have a luggage room as well which definitely took the stress off my back of where to put my bags while I explored more and waited on my ferry to arrive. It was on the low maintenance side in terms of staff bothering us, which I found to be peaceful. Beach is literally a 3-5 minute walk. You’re right in the middle of town. Vons is a 3-5 minute walk as well. If you’re looking for a great place to sleep and grab a coffee from the lobby, this place is for you. The balcony views were amazing as well. Felt very European

I think the fact we went off season may be the reason why it was so relaxed. But the first night we didn’t get new towels, we had a few guys so they we went thru them very quick haha. But the moment I asked Jenner for some towels she got me some right away.

Close to everything. The bed was comfortable, having a refrigerator was great to keep drinks and snacks. Staff is great. They have bag storage which is great if you get there earlier than check in or have a late ferry.

Heads up- The property is multi story and does not have an elevator. So you have to carry everything upstairs. They do have 1 or 2 ground floor rooms.
