Right on the main drag , transportation is expensive in Avalon. You can walk to Descanso Beach and Lovers Cove 1/2 mile each way. Restaurants right there. Bars are super taxed and drinking out is expensive. Most restaurants bars don't list drink prices and tax tourists hard. Byob in Avalon go to Vons deli to eat cheap for lunch. Great place seemingly good rates for the area great location for walking. Botanical gardens a bit of a rip maybe just walk through like you own it.

Dan (front desk guru) was super attentive, helpful, and provided great recommendations. Location is SUPER convenient to downtown Avalon Rooms were clean and beds were comfy. There were 3 of us, and we were given a twin +double room (yay). Rooms start at the second floor, which helps avoid the noise of the town. (Ac filter in room 215 needs to be changed. It has a mildew smell) AC and fans are useful to cool down the room Luggage storage is offered Continental breakfast is perfect to start the day Beach towels are plush and large We'd stay here again.

Guests coming in drunk at 3am on a Monday night. I believe this is a symptom of the location. Not a fault of the hotel. Just an observation of being near the hotel front desk.

No doubt the building is old but is well maintained, is clean, comfortable, location is great. Breakfast consists of various breads, yogurt, OJ, coffee and tea, and it is more than enough, in my opinion, to keep us excited in the morning. Daniel and Jackie were excellent help to just about everything. I commend their patience, understanding, and I can say that they’re just all out to help guests with anything to make their stay enjoyable and pleasant. All the excellent reviews I read before reserving the rooms are all true. Congratulations hotel MacRae for performing at a level that surpasses what was initially anticipated or required. We will come back again.

Great location! The best part is the staff. So welcoming and accommodating. When we explained that we'd be hiking all day after checking out, they offered a bathroom for us to shower and freshen up. Honestly, that made our trip to Catalina. Thank you. It felt amazing to be clean after a sweaty, dusty hike. For those who travel in Europe, the accommodations were similar. Small bathroom, otherwise super comfortable bed, pillows, and room. Loved our stay. We will come back for the hospitality and attention to detail.

Location could not be beat. The court yard area between the rows of rooms is very special with the patio furnishings.

Pastries & juice was nice, but I would like more to call it breakfast. Although we did get two adjoining rooms as we requested, we only learned at check in that our 14 year old grandson could not be in room with our 6 year old grandson to sleep overnight. That put me in the same bed with my 14 year old grandson. I understand the hotel rules, but I feel grandparents can keep control of a 14 & 6 year old in the adjoining room.

Breakfast was a nice touch and easy to grab on the way out - best part of the stay was the incredibly friendly staff and the unbeatable location!

Rooms are dated. Didn't care for the bathroom. The shampoo,conditioner,lotion and soap were just okay, and showers with a shower curtain felt like a public shower. Need more hooks and racks in the bathroom if possible....most guests will have wet swim suits that need to be hung when they stay at this hotel.

My husband and I spent three nights at Hotel MacRae which was wonderful!! The hotel is in a PRIME location, right in the center of town, which was great, close to everything! You walk out of the hotel and you're right on the beach! Our room, although small, was quiet, very clean and comfortable! Without asking, our room was cleaned up daily by the professional maids and it was a pleasure to return to a room "put together." The staff was extremely helpful! There are twenty five steps to climb up to, which we were able to do(even though we're seniors)! The bathroom is small, but the shower was fantastic!! It was nice that there was coffee, juice and pastries for a light breakfast, but it shouldn't be advertised as a "continental breakfast." A true continental breakfast has fruit and cereals. Overall, we loved our stay at the hotel and would return!!!!Remember, it is the oldest hotel in Avalon!

I loved the location. The hotel provided water which was definitely a plus. The breakfast pastries were fresh and appeared to be from a bakery. I did notice later in the morning that the pastries looked store bought so they must replenish later on with the cheaper stuff. I don’t blame them because the first pastries were so good I could only imagine some people take extras for later.

The room was tiny. It’s was still worth it but it was a little smaller than expected . The courtyard was great so it helped having wine or snacks out there.

Amazing location facing the shoreline and main road. Overall clean facilities, friendly staff, and a very nice courtyard area that could be utilized for outdoor casual dining and afternoon lounging.

The entrance is very small and easily to be missed. The hotel feels quite dated (even though it takes pride in its heritage and history). Quite overpriced for the dated look.

I loved the location of the hotel, the staff was very friendly, it is a place that I will definitely I will return, you can walk from the ferry to the hotel without having to pay a taxi, everything is very close and in front of the hotel you can sunbathe on the sand and go into the sea! Breakfast is included, but if you like to go to the market it is around the corner from the hotel and you can buy your groceries for your stay, there are also restaurants very close, it is a paradise.
