We've stayed here before. It is our Go-TO on Catalina Island. Incredible view and quiet with reasonable amenities. ZG is very accommodating for cartage up and down the hill into Avalon proper. It takes moments for arrangement and minutts to go up and down. The difference between staying up at ZG in lieu of Downtown is amazing and worth it.

Though our Go-To, as with many properties, COVID kind of gut-punched them and they will take a couple of years to totally financially recover. Though a beautiful place and pretty much upper-end, it is showing signs of needing some affection. It would and does not deter us from the excellent experience.

The views and hotel aesthetics were worth the stay. The amenities, specifically the breakfast bar and the rides to/from the hotel, were also wonderful perks. Most of all, we really enjoyed our interactions with the staff. They were all incredibly hospitable and helpful.

Because the property itself is older, there are some things that can’t be helped. For example, we found a few potato bugs that entered the crevasses of our room every day. (We just removed them when we’d find them.) There was also a mild musty smell that I chalked up to the age of the property, but it got better after opening the windows.

This place is amazing. The staff were great. The shuttle service was spectacular and they held our luggage after check out and delivered it to the ferry before our departure. We were lucky - on arrival that our room was ready and we got an early check in. No hauling of bags. The room was clean with spectacular views. We got the king suite with ocean view. Sometimes just splurge! You deserve it!! To our surprise, the breakfast was above the norm. Amongst the normal spread there was a warm meal. It included scrambled eggs, bacon, sausage, and potatoes! The staff that provided shuttle service gave us some tips on how to get downtown by foot. It’s super easy and all steps were downward, but the different views of the island were just fabulous. While visiting, do think about visiting the Casino (never actually been a gambling establishment) and the art museum. In that order too. You get the history lesson in the casino, then the artifacts in the museum. Over all great experience and will do it again.

A shuttle picked us up at the ferry and drove us up the steep hill to the hotel. The same shuttle was available throughout our stay to take us to and from town. The room had a fabulous view looking down on Catalina Harbor and a lovely terrace. The beds were comfortable and had high quality linens. The bathroom was very large and exceptionally nice with an enclosed shower stall separate from the bathtub.

The 2nd bedroom lacked privacy (curtains were difficult to close on a window that faced the stairs to the next level) and the TV did not work. The breakfast was adequate, but the room was austere.

The hotel had great views and staff was very friendly. The free continental breakfast was prepared well. The provided shuttle service was a nice amenity. Room was comfortable

Weather but that’s Mother Nature sometimes, couldn’t enjoy the beaches very wellc

Beautiful view and comfortable beds.

Breakfast was ridiculously low grade (unhealthy junk) compared to the crazy expensive price for the room.($1550 for 2 nights) Toilet seat was replaced probably in the last moment with a smaller one. It looked really awkward. Bed for the kid had stains, which was cleaned after we notified the front desk. 2nd night was unfortunately windy and all things (tables,chairs, cabinet doors) on the roof top above us were flying and moving. The walls are paper thin so you can hear literally everything.

The staff was great, everyone from the person at check-in to the housekeepers, the drivers who took us to the hotel and dropped off our bags, who handled the breakfast area—everyone was very helpful. I can only recall the names of Carlos, José and Daniel, but the latter's wife and her sister were also stellar and went above and beyond in their service.

There were only a couple of minor issues, such as the heat not working properly and a couple of window screens not opening, but they were not a big deal at all.

Everything was great. Breakfast was very good, and the view and surrounding environment, beautiful. Of special note, and quite outstanding was the service provided by staff to promptly transport us 1/2 mile or so up and down the steep hill, to the main part of town and back. They also picked us up at the ferry, and then going back met us at the ferry with all of our luggage later in the day after we checked out.

Clean, comfortable - spectacular views- breakfast was perfect.

The property itself is lovely- The breakfast food options were fantastic. I think Zane Grey would highly benefit from a twilight or evening “bites or wine flight” option in the evenings -doesn’t have to be complimentary -the view was so stunning we didn’t even want to leave for dinner.

We came here for a getaway from the city and absolutely fell in love with it! We booked the king suite and got THE best view you could imagine. Very spacious room and romantic, we loved the balcony and the ample his and hers bathroom and bathtub too. the breakfast was great every morning, and the staff was very friendly!

the only complaint I have is that there was a stain on the couch that looked like blood or wine (?), we let them know but they still didn’t get round to cleaning it so we didn’t sit there for the time we stayed but it wasn’t a huge issue as we were out most of the time.
