The location and view from Hillside are amazing. Our room was spacious, making up for the dated furniture. We couldn't take advantage of the large balcony because of rainy and chilly weather, but we look forward to staying at Hillside in the summer months sometime. The staff is very friendly and everything is clean. It's wonderful that breakfast is served in a dining room with a wall of huge windows with the same wonderful view. We understand there used to be a restaurant here. Probably the incredibly steep driveway is a drawback to having a restaurant but don't let that stop you from trying this hotel and enjoying its best qualities.

The view was spectacular. The staff was very polite and knowledgeable about the area. The room was spotless...and I do mean spotless. Probably the cleanest I have ever been in. Breakfast was solid and offered another spectacular view. Beautiful historic location to rest and be at peace.

Room did get warm and had a hard time getting it too cool down without opening balcony. Walls are paper thin, but with white noise machine on, that eradicated issue immediately. Vending machine was kind of pricey but in this day and age that is to be expected. No snacks in vending machine. :( Nothing I list hear should deter you from staying. Just plan ahead.

We had booked the room for 2 nights. They lady at the desk was awesome. She was so kind and was extremely helpful when we had a question. We only stayed one of the nights for to husband allergy and she was so understanding in the situation.

We did not realize it was a historic hotel when we rented it.( I probably just didn't ready enough about the place) Not that that is bad but there was a smell that irritated my husband allergies so we could only stay one night instead of the 2 we had rented The hotel itself though was great.

As a photographer, I liked the balcony room for overlooking the town. The remodel of the hotel appeared to be done well. Rooms were quiet as far as hearing my neighbors. Traffic noise is unavoidable and not the fault of the hotel. Bed and pillows were comfy. Shower was more than adequate. Staff was friendly, and check-in check-out was lightning fast.

Some may harp on the breakfast, but I just went for a blueberry bagel. I don't like to complain about the free breakfast, especially in today's times where food costs are making it hard on hotels.

The location with the views especially from the banquet room where a top notch hot breakfast bar was served daily. The mid 20th Century architecture was interesting and the Koi pond in the entryway to the lobby was a delight!

The fact that as I was leaving I discovered why I was “getting stuffy” and a runny nose every time I entered my room and that is because the window (covered with a great room darkening drapery) had a black substance that had not been completely removed from the crevices where the glass meets the frame.

The view of the river and town. Beautiful. It actually would have been the perfect place to watch the fireworks had we stayed one or two more nights. Even though we had a small room it didn’t feel crowded. Everything is updated. The staff were friendly and helpful. Our room spotless. The staff communicated with each other and were ready to help us in our last minute crisis. Thankfully everything worked out, but they were there for us.

We had a lovely stay here. Great location, friendly staff, comfortable bed, nice view (even from a room not facing the rest of town). Would definitely stay here again if we come back to Madison

Everything at breakfast was individually wrapped in plastic and only plastic/styrofoam cutlery/bowls were available. Would love to see some reusable options in the future!

the receptionist called me for the confirmation of our stay since I did rebookong for 3 times. the view from our room was fantastic, so beautiful. I can see the main street and the bridge on the left side from the balcony. they have breakfast at the LL with the sceneries overview looking. they also allow doordash for food delivery.

the room conditioning didn't work well during our stay, it goes off and runs through like a fan. it is during fall season. it is pretty nice during the morning you can feel a little cold

Wow-- the breakfast was fantastic! Eggs, sausage, waffles, bagels, toast, English muffins, packaged muffins, cereal, apples, yogurt, juice and coffee. Lord have mercy, that was alot! The rooms were beautiful. The view was astounding. We sat on our balcony every day. You could see the town, the river, the bridge... It was fantastic! The only drawback was that the room was warm and we couldn't adjust the thermostat. So we cracked the balcony door and that fixed the problem! Absolutely beautiful place and we never saw another hotel in town that could have given us the view this one did! We hope to come back! A perfect three days!

The balcony and view were fabulous! The bed was very comfortable, too. All the staff were so friendly and helpful. The breakfast options were very impressive. There were plenty of hot food choices like biscuits, gravy, waffles, eggs, sausage, bacon! Plus cereal, various breads and muffins, yogurt, and fruit. The dining area offered a full panorama of historic Madison and the Ohio River. So lovely! I am coming back ASAP!

I really have no complaints. Just a couple of observations. As you drive up the hill to the hotel, it's looks like a classic mid-century hotel, just oozing retro charm. Once inside, it shows wear. I couldn't help but think what a vintage showpiece it could be if mid-century furniture, lamps, wall art, etc. were added to the public areas, at least. Adding Mid-century Modern in the rooms would be a huge plus! To be clear, I liked the hotel very much - please read my comments about the room, view, and breakfast! I just see a missed opportunity to make it really memorable, decor-wise.
