I can't say enough wonderful things about Cottages on River Road. From the moment I arrived, I felt wrapped in comfort, charm, and genuine hospitality. The setting is idyllic—nestled among towering redwoods with cozy cottages that feel like a perfect blend of rustic and refined. Everything was spotless, thoughtfully designed, and welcoming. But what truly made my stay unforgettable was the staff. Every single person I interacted with was kind, attentive, and went above and beyond to make me feel at home. Whether it was a warm greeting, helpful local tips, or just their cheerful presence, they infused the entire experience with heart. You can tell they care deeply about the place and the people who visit. Evenings by the fire pit, complimentary breakfast, and the peaceful vibe of the property made it hard to leave. If you're looking for a serene escape with soul, this is it. I’ll absolutely be back—and I’ll be recommending it to everyone I know.

Everything. Places kept immaculate, the rooms are nicely sized, all of the amenities like the soap, and the towels and the bathroom curtains and the air conditioning and everything are just perfect, the morning breakfast between 8:30 and 10 has me longing for their black ham breakfast sandwiches months after I've left the place, and the staff particularly Deanne, are just a joy to be around and treat you like visiting family every time you show up. This is my number one spot on the river, although I really shouldn't be telling anyone because I don't want anybody taking the room I want next time. Lol. For my money this is the best value on the river

I didn't like that they don't rent monthly. Lol

We had a lovely time at the Cottages On The River Road. The grounds are very peaceful and nicely cared for. Surrounded by beautiful Redwood trees. Many outdoor areas to sit outside and enjoy the sun, or a meal. Bedrooms are very comfortable. We stayed at a King Studio cottage; on the small side, but comfortable, especially the bed. The daily breakfast was decent. They had breakfast sandwiches, fresh muffins, slow cooked oatmeal, hard boiled eggs, fruit, etc. No gluten free items though. The staff was very nice and friendly. Nearby are many restaurants, some within walking distance. They had a nightly fire pit with all the ingredients to make s'mores. It's off the main road, so you can hear the cars when you're outside, but not indoors (our room did not face the street). If you're noise sensitive, request a cottage that is not on the River Road side of the property. Thin shared walls with neighbors, but manageable. Loved the bathtub! We loved our stay here and would definitely come back.

Gluten free options at breakfast.

The continental breakfast was great - more than the usual pastries most places have. We appreciated that our room had a refrigerator and that there was a separate room for our kiddos so we could stay up after putting them to bed. The kids loved the nightly s’mores that were provided by the fire pit and all the floaties and water guns at the pool too!

The only thing that would have made the stay slightly better would be to have a microwave in the room (there is a communal one at the facility next to the ice fridge) and we had trouble trying to stream from our devices to the TV, but those were minor inconveniences compared to what we enjoyed about the stay.

Adorable hotel just a mile or so outside of Guerneville. We had a 2 bedroom that had a queen bed in one room and 2 twin beds in the other. Nice size living room and bathroom. Also had a little deck that looked out over the lawn court yard. We were able to bring our dog and they had a cute little pet area. The hotel had a decent pool. We didn't use it as we wanted to go to the river. They had a nice breakfast with a variety of items including hot egg and cheese sandwiches. We went to dinner across the street at the brewery that was very good and easy access. There was plenty of parking and the whole hotel is very secure with key entry to get into the property.

Just note: this is not on the river nor does it have access to the river. This was a little disappointing as we had to go past town to find a spot to get to the river.

The property was a pleasant surprise. When I pulled up I was disappointed it was on the opposite side of the road from the river but when I stepped into the perfectly manicured grounds and saw the pool and the redwoods and the well maintained cottages I was impressed. The ladies working there were delightful! In the evening they lit the firepit and brought out S'mores fixins which were there for the taking...no charge like at other places I've stayed. They were totally pet friendly and even had a great little area for dogs to do their business. A fun addition were Sharpies to write your dogs' name on the fence and my little Babette put her mark there as well. The included breakfast was not your typical continental fare...it included two kinds of quiche, oatmeal, muffins and bagels and all the toppings you would want. There are great eateries a stone's throw away and a store so I didn't have to go into Guernville which is turned upside down with construction and closed businesses. The beach is about 20 minutes away and river access about 10.

I wished the pool were heated, but I was still able to lay on a lounge after getting my feet wet and enjoy the grove of trees towering above me.

The property was lovely with well cared for walking paths and flowers, a very pretty garden design, a fire pit, and close parking outside the locked gate. We thought that might be an issue since the cottages are on the main street, but all worked out great. The breakfast was lovely and there was something for everyone. The room was a bit smaller than we expected but it was clean and well equipped with everything we needed.

We had a bit of a problem logging onto our Netflix and Amazon accounts, but the staff came quickly to try to solve the problem, which they were able to do.

Lovely updated cottage with great private bathroom, comfortable bed and pillows, tv in the room, little seating area out front for a coffee or meal. Helpful staff. Evening s’mores around the campfire for those who wanted to join in. Good location for visiting wineries, redwood forests, the river and lovely little towns for a spa, antiques etc. free parking at the door.

On a noisy road, not on the quiet river as I’d hoped/expected. Pool was not open (out of season, understandably). A hot tub would be a great alternative.

The one bedroom cottage was spacious, clean and had comfortable furniture and beds (queen and twin). It had a full kitchen as well (but only one wine glass 😏). The bathroom was small but had a cool sink and warm shower. Host was friendly and helpful. I felt safe within the gated, well-kept grounds and S'mores are provided most nights around the fire pit.

The heating units (an older and newer wall unit) in the living room did not warm up the space for the cold January night. A separate space heater and a few extra blankets would have done the job. Bathroom is very small with very little counter space for toiletries but there are small shelves over the toilet and a hook on the door along with a small cabinet outside the bathroom. Breakfast not available before 8:30.

Cute property and friendly staff. I was in room number 5, it was nice and comfortable. The continental breakfast was adequate with various options and delicious little breakfast sandwiches. Although I didn’t bring my pet this trip the place was very pet friendly. I didn’t get to experience it due to it rained my whole trip, but they light a fire pit and have s’mores available around 7pm each night. I may return in the summer just to experience that.

The toasting equipment didn’t get my bagel or English muffin toasty enough no matter how times I ran it through the machine. I like my bagel crunchy and brown. The sink in room 5 took a long time to drain. I shared that with the staff and they were going to check it out right away. I told them they didn’t have to worry about it until after I checked out. I could deal with a little slow drain.
