Warm welcoming. Very comfortable room, especially the bed. Good shower. The guest house is located in a quiet village outside Penrith, with stunning landscape. On my outwrd journey, the locking mechanism of the room’s door seemed broken, but was fixed for the return journey, showing great care from the owner.

The entrance to the car park is narrow. This cannot easily be changed. It is advised to come preferably from Penrith than from Shap, as the car would be positioned on the other side of the road and therefore can be maneuvered more perpendicularly to the entrance. Coming from Shap, and with a bit of pressure from the traffic, the car can present itself with an angle to the entrance that can be awkward. I broke my external mirror that way…

We enjoyed a lovely 3 night stay at The White House, whilst recently attending a family wedding nearby in Penrith. The period house has low ceilings and wooden beams downstairs, in the lounge there is book case and games. We stayed in a family room (comfortable double and single bed), which was nicely decorated and included all the amenities we could need including bath towels, hairdryer, tea/coffee making facilities & biscotti biscuits and a room with a view of the countryside. We saw a couple of bunny rabbits in the garden. We also liked the bathroom as it has a full size bath and shower overhead and is spacious and very clean. They provide delightfully scented Cole & Lewis soap, shampoo, conditioner and body lotion to use. Breakfast was also delicious each morning in the dining room. Full English breakfast or Creamy porridge with fresh fruit! I can’t recommend this B&B highly enough, if you are looking for a relaxing break in the Lake District. It is also dog friendly and they provide a list of nearby dog friendly pubs which is helpful. Thank you to Prue for looking after us so well and also giving us excellent tips for a short tour of nearby Ullswater and the Aira Force waterfall, my daughter really enjoyed this and we had a very memorable trip.

My wife & I had the most wonderful 3 night stay in the White House Guest House with our dog Buddy. We were greeted with a lovely welcome from Prue the owner who was so friendly & always happy & smiling. The first impressions of the beautiful guest house were amazing. It was spotlessly clean, our room had everything you could imagine you would ever need. Buddy loved it too & was spoilt every morning with his own breakfast treats & cuddles from Prue. It’s super dog friendly throughout. It was very comfortable & peaceful in an amazing location with wonderful views. Can’t speak highly enough about our time spent there. We would recommend to all including your furry ones, as you will have no concerns. Breakfast was amazing & so much to choose from fresh fruit, cereals, yogurts, toast, & a full English. We loved every minute & wished we could have stayed longer, but we definitely will be back. You need to stay here to experience it for yourself. Thank you Prue for everything!

The property is a characterful traditional construction well maintained and in excellent decorative order. The double bedroom was comfortable and roomy, with an en-suite shower room which had everything needed. The breakfast was exceptional and served to me at 7.00 am at my request as I wanted an early start.

Minor quibble. The shower compartment was relatively compact but its size was dictated by the physical constraints of the existing building. I am a large person, and whilst I would have found additional space helpful I managed perfectly OK.

The place is extremely well looked after and elegantly fitted out, rooms are very clean, tidy and comfortable, and the breakfast is amazing. There is a little wooded area behind the house which is great for walking the dog. It was a perfect place for us to stop over for a night to break up a long driving trip.

M6 is next door and, while that is a plus when on a roadtrip, it is pretty audible when you open windows. So, someone not used to big road noise in the background may find it a bit too much. Having said that, double glazed windows means you hear none of it if windows are shut!

Very convenient location for stop off between Scotland & England. Very friendly host Exceptionally clean. Comfortable bed & very substantial hearty breakfast freshly cooked with a good selection of other cereal/fruits etc. Plenty of safe parking on site. Close proximity to a superb Gastro Pub/Restaurant for evening meals. Excellent value for money.

Only small drawback would be the fact that the room is quite small without an en-suite bathroom but a private lockable bathroom is provided just down the corridor so wasn't too much of an issue.

Everything - very well pleased with finding the property. Room was very large with a selection of beds - a family room. Bed was extremely comfortable, with a mattress and pillows you could just sink into, loads of hot water and large towels. Plenty of choice for breakfast. Greatly enjoyed my stay.

Not so keen on 'oily' surface table covers in the breakfast room, but realise the need for something very simple and easy to clean on a regular basis.

The host was very nice and welcomed us as soon as we arrived in the car. Beautiful garden. The room was clean and tidy and well supplied with coffee etc and bathroom with lotions etc.. we will definitely look to stay again. Our 3 doggies were welcomed making it nice stay.

The.pub/hotel opposite were unfortunately only serving guests that particular night but a short drive led us to another pub and our evening dinner so no problem for us.

Location was great. Close to the motorway and Penrith. Excellent choice if you have/like dogs as they are made very welcome and there is an enclosed wooded area for walking them in just around the corner. Breakfast was good and custom made to your order placed the night before. Pru even lent me some pliers to remove a valve so I could check my tyre pressure!

Our host was welcoming and very sociable. The bed was very comfortable, while the shower was rather tight - especially for a large person. The breakfast was excellent and parking was easy. Very good accommodation for a one-night stay.

There was nothing that we "didn't like". However, some TLC required to bring the facilities up to a high standard.
