From the moment we walked through the door, the hotel looked great and had a good feel about it. Tasteful and freshly decorated with a relaxing vibe. Our room was spacious, also freshly decorated, very comfortable with a great bed you could sink into. Room facilities were good, but noise coming up from the inner-courtyard as the place was busy with various social/family events taking place, however we were able to block this out with the soundproofed double glazing. Breakfast excellent and filling. Ate twice over our three nights there and thoroughly enjoyed the food. Staff were all very friendly and accommodating. Enjoyed the Theakston's Old Peculiar, very well kept.

The noise and some of the language from the partying yougsters there was a little annoying and obtrusive in the evenings, showing no regard for hotel guests eating there. I left the suggestion that the breakfast area which was a separate room (and closed at night) could/should be made available to hotel guests only, if eating in the evening to give them a quieter more pleasant environment. This was the only drawback to our stay interrupting what was otherwise a pleasant atmosphere in which to eat and chill.

I stayed a few weeks ago but I forgot to write a review. Cosy arrival, staff were evidently busy as we arrived on a Saturday but they didn’t fail to put a smile on their faces. Comfy bedrooms, great amenities, such a beautiful bathroom also. We were here for a wedding in the falls and I was the best man so I had to leave my girlfriend alone so I could get ready with the groom. She had mentioned the staff were very helpful and so nice towards her and calming her nerves as it was her first time in the UK and meeting all of my friends. The morning after we were very visually, horrendously hungover but the breakfast staff didn’t fail to make us smile and allowed us to take the food back to the room. I asked if it was okay if we checked out an hour later, it was no issues. Hospitality at its finest. I run my own hotel in South Devon and I would hire every single member of staff I encountered. The room was exactly as described- well equipped clean and a great size. The hotel is much bigger than it looks- a rabbit warren of rooms and corridors that all appear new with everything well thought out. We had a large bathroom with a shower plus a bath in the room and an enormous bed. The room was quiet except for local seagulls! Breakfast was great and all the staff we encountered were polite and helpful. We had booked a table elsewhere but there is a restaurant/bar on site. The bar on a Saturday night when we returned just after 10 pm was very busy so we were glad we had booked elsewhere. Saying that, we just entered and slipped through to the hotel section and all was quiet and calm! We only stayed for one night on our way through back home after a holiday travelling around Scotland and we felt that it was one of the best places we stayed on our trip and the best value.

The hotel is located right in the middle of town and the hotel details are vague on parking so after unsuccessfully trying to find a space we then had to pull up and drop off our stuff in front of the hotel (luckily it was about 5.30 pm so the street was quieter) before being directed to the spaces reserved for guests in a car park behind the high street. The car park was great and we would have like to have known about it beforehand rather than once we checked in.

All the staff were friendly and welcoming and nothing was too much trouble the room was very clean and the beds comfortable. We were there for a sponsored walk around Ulswater my friend sadly ended up with a badly injured foot which happened at the begining of the walk and on check out the member of staff on duty was extreamly helpful allowing me to leave bags to bring the car to the front then helped bring bags out to the car and helped my friend get to the car as she was on crutches and unable to walk very well

both my friend and i found the room very hot and at night we wedged the window open to cool a bit and was kept awake by noise from the street so in the end had to close the window again. My friend joked a lift would be helpful :-) having to go up and down stairs to our room was not easy

Ideally located for our needs and had private parking although we did get the very last space. Room was spotless although a little warm as no air con (there was a fan in the room however) Staff were all amazing, friendly and efficient, a credit to the hotel.

Wasn’t told that is was advisable to book a table for an evening meal even though I had been in touch with the hotel to ask about last service etc as I was taking part in a charity 26mile hike and would be running late. Was told it was full booked when I got to the hotel, we were starving! The young lady on reception apologised for the lack of information and grabbed us a table as soon as she saw one become available. She even ran up to our room to tell us. Crisis solved with politeness and going out of her way to accommodate us

We stopped for a night here on the way back from Glasgow. There was a short walk from the car park (free) but when we reached the hotel we received a warm welcome. Our room was spacious, comfortable and clean and the shower was hot. What more could you ask for? We decided to eat here rather than venturing out and had squid and garlic mushrooms as a starter, both very good although we both enjoyed the mushrooms the most. Then for main we had the cajun chicken burger and the beef burger, both very tasty. The breakfast was plentiful and tasty and professionally served.

The location near the city centre and in front of the bus stop to get the 508 to the lakes was really good. The room is well designed and comfortable. The staff was friendly.

The room was dusty and the bath was definitely not entirely clean. Staff was lost at the reception when we arrived because they were new to the business and other staff were making too much noise on Sunday morning when we were trying to sleep. The breakfast was good but I would say that glasses didn’t look clean and they were sticky. I would improve the hotel cleaning service if I were you and train the staff before they start working in the reception.

a rabbit warren of a old hotel (no lift) but such a gem! With real character and style that I really enjoyed our stay. The king sized bed was so soft and comfortable that I had the best nights sleep in months! Staff were so helpful and nothing was too much trouble. They had plenty of gluten free choices (GF bread) and each item that was GF was marked on their menu.

A ilft would have been much appreciated but as the layout of the building was so eclectic I realise that it would not be possible. There were plenty of hand rails up the old wide stairs so I coped.

where do i start.. this is a gem of a place- the staff in hotel and bar are awesome.. the owner was such a lovely, helpful, friendly lady that i felt like we were old friends!! the newly decorated room was to die for, the bed was so comfy i would like to purchase the mattress they had! the bathroom with bath and shower was great. even though we were on the road side we could not hear it as they have secondary glazing. we had some food from the bar- the fish platter and there was so much food, which was yummy and a very, very reasonable price!!

Friendly staff, comfortable spacious room we hadn't booked a table for evening meal as had planned to eat out but as it was pouring with rain asked if we could dine in, restaurant was fully booked but no problem as they set us a table in the lounge/reception area, food was excellent and reasonably priced. Breakfast included was buffet cereal, yoghurts and fruit and choice of cooked from full Cumbrian, veggie, waffles, breakfast sandwich or eggs on toast.

Although free carpark is included it is around the back and down an alleyway and not ideal when it's pouring down.
