Comfortable room and bed. Really quiet and no noise from neighbouring rooms, which occurs in many hotels. The staff were amazing and really helpful. The shower was wonderful. Apart from the two really fixable issues below this is a quality hotel and way bigger than appears outside. It's a Tardis of a building!
Two things would have turned this from a v.good to an outstanding stay: 1. Cotton sheets not polycotton. That's really naff and not really in keeping with the quality of the rest of the hotel. Polycotton is 'scratchy' and hot and does not lead to a quality sleep. 2. The bedside lights appeared to have a million watt bulbs in them. Great for locating and shooting down bombers flying at 30,000 feet on those no moon nights. Because they are over your head, they burn your eyeballs out and basically render you blind for the evening. You certainly wouldn't want to turn one on in the middle of the night. The chances of your vision returning for breakfast is minimal.

From the moment we walked through the door, the hotel looked great and had a good feel about it. Tasteful and freshly decorated with a relaxing vibe. Our room was spacious, also freshly decorated, very comfortable with a great bed you could sink into. Room facilities were good, but noise coming up from the inner-courtyard as the place was busy with various social/family events taking place, however we were able to block this out with the soundproofed double glazing. Breakfast excellent and filling. Ate twice over our three nights there and thoroughly enjoyed the food. Staff were all very friendly and accommodating. Enjoyed the Theakston's Old Peculiar, very well kept.
The noise and some of the language from the partying yougsters there was a little annoying and obtrusive in the evenings, showing no regard for hotel guests eating there. I left the suggestion that the breakfast area which was a separate room (and closed at night) could/should be made available to hotel guests only, if eating in the evening to give them a quieter more pleasant environment. This was the only drawback to our stay interrupting what was otherwise a pleasant atmosphere in which to eat and chill.

Lovely comfy room, large bathroom, warm and cozy, comfy bed. Outstanding staff throughout the hotel and bar. Always friendly, smiling and helpful. Great location, fab live music on the Sunday afternoon of our visit.
The only thing that could have been a bit better was the cooked breakfast. The amount and variation were absolutely fine but I think the breakfast items are mainly deep fried, including the bacon. This made it extremely hard and crispy - almost too difficult to eat. Thought on day one it was a one-off especially as we had breakfast late and no other diners about (9.15am), but second day we were earlier around 8.00 am with lots of diners and the bacon was the same. The black pudding seemed similarly cooked but this just made it a bit on the oily/greasy side when cutting in to it. As I said, quality and amount o.k. but perhaps the cooking method wasn´t the best!

You could tell the entire property had undergone a complete makeover. Restaurant was buzzing at lunch & dinner. Excellent dinner. Bedrooms were beautiful. However breakfast was over cooked and dry - bacon, black pudding, inedible. Not enjoyable and we waited ages for it to arrive, so we were hoping freshly cooked. The only problem about room 24 was we heard the ladies and gents downstairs every single time the hand driers were used - but we went out during day, then were in restaurant in evening so minimised the issue. But by 6am could hear sounds downstairs like a swing door?? Weird sound, but assuming staff were arriving below us.

I stayed a few weeks ago but I forgot to write a review. Cosy arrival, staff were evidently busy as we arrived on a Saturday but they didn’t fail to put a smile on their faces. Comfy bedrooms, great amenities, such a beautiful bathroom also. We were here for a wedding in the falls and I was the best man so I had to leave my girlfriend alone so I could get ready with the groom. She had mentioned the staff were very helpful and so nice towards her and calming her nerves as it was her first time in the UK and meeting all of my friends. The morning after we were very visually, horrendously hungover but the breakfast staff didn’t fail to make us smile and allowed us to take the food back to the room. I asked if it was okay if we checked out an hour later, it was no issues. Hospitality at its finest. I run my own hotel in South Devon and I would hire every single member of staff I encountered. Thank you everyone 🙏

The staff were friendly and responsive. The beds were comfy. They provide breakfast which was great.
The rooms are small though well-appointed but the lighting situation was weird - you couldn't just turn the bathroom light on without having other lights on so that was weird, the whole wiring set-up was strange and it took us a bit to figure out how to work the lights in the room. The bathroom was super small and hard to maneuver in and because the rooms were small there wasn't much space for open suitcases. While the chairs in the rooms added to a homey feel and made the room seem nicer I'd suggest swapping those out for more useful luggage stands just due to the size of the room. Like most places we stayed at, they only provide just enough toilet paper to get you through...

This hotel is a hidden gem ! It has undergone extensive expansion since our last visit. It is absolutely outstanding. The room was lovely and comfortable, spotless with electrical sockets and USB connections on both sides of the bed. It is centrally located for walking into Penrith. The breakfast was so good and served by the very friendly Lindsey who is a credit to the hotel. The owner was very friendly and knowledgeable. The evening meal was excellent and reasonably priced. I can't praise this little gem highly enough and would highly recommend to family and friends.
Absolutely nothing ! Everything from room to service to food was exceptional. The staff are all very friendly and eager to help.

2nd time staying there, travelling for work. The place is lovely, beautiful rooms and facilities making it a very comfortable stay. Staff is very friendly too. Great attention to detail. Dinner was good and breakfast (waffles) was superb, freshly made to order.
I stayed in this beautiful room at the back of the hotel, very quiet until 6am when I can only assume staff or deliveries arrived and there was a door constantly being used which made the whole room shake every time. Shame as I then realised going downstairs for breakfast that all guest facing doors are soft close and quiet.

The room was exactly as described- well equipped clean and a great size. The hotel is much bigger than it looks- a rabbit warren of rooms and corridors that all appear new with everything well thought out. We had a large bathroom with a shower plus a bath in the room and an enormous bed. The room was quiet except for local seagulls! Breakfast was great and all the staff we encountered were polite and helpful. We had booked a table elsewhere but there is a restaurant/bar on site. The bar on a Saturday night when we returned just after 10 pm was very busy so we were glad we had booked elsewhere. Saying that, we just entered and slipped through to the hotel section and all was quiet and calm! We only stayed for one night on our way through back home after a holiday travelling around Scotland and we felt that it was one of the best places we stayed on our trip and the best value.
The hotel is located right in the middle of town and the hotel details are vague on parking so after unsuccessfully trying to find a space we then had to pull up and drop off our stuff in front of the hotel (luckily it was about 5.30 pm so the street was quieter) before being directed to the spaces reserved for guests in a car park behind the high street. The car park was great and we would have like to have known about it beforehand rather than once we checked in.

All the staff were friendly and welcoming and nothing was too much trouble the room was very clean and the beds comfortable. We were there for a sponsored walk around Ulswater my friend sadly ended up with a badly injured foot which happened at the begining of the walk and on check out the member of staff on duty was extreamly helpful allowing me to leave bags to bring the car to the front then helped bring bags out to the car and helped my friend get to the car as she was on crutches and unable to walk very well
both my friend and i found the room very hot and at night we wedged the window open to cool a bit and was kept awake by noise from the street so in the end had to close the window again. My friend joked a lift would be helpful :-) having to go up and down stairs to our room was not easy
