I am from Thailand Stayed here and slept very well. I came to stay with a family of 6 people I should 2 room type Japanese style. There can lay for 3 people. There is a convenience store nearby and free parking. It is recommended that you ask first how many cars can be parked. Large vehicles must find parking outside. The room owner takes very good care of you. The check-in and check-out system is convenient.

The walkway up and down is narrow and the floor is not firm. Unable to walk with heavy feet must walk slowly As for the heater

The owner was very welcoming. It was very clean and pretty. Our room was big enough, even with three pieces of luggage. The futons were comfortable. The public bath was very relaxing. The location is quite good and the view of the garden is nice. The breakfast is simple but good with nice coffee.

The walls are very thin so we could hear people running and talking even after 11 pm. The bathroom with the toilet was too small (too bad there is only a small mirror in the room). The sheets are very warm, so they are not ideal for summer. One of the futons was under the air conditioning so it was uncomfortable for the person sleeping in it. The breakfast tables are very low and therefore not suitable for taller people.

I was really pleasantly surprised with this stay. It is a very traditional style place and I loved experiencing it. It was very spacious for me and my husband. The backyard area was lovely and I loved the traditional breakfast served as well. The location is a bit off of the downtown/main area, but I still am happy with this location as it was still near a lot of restaurants and alleys with various establishments.

The parking lot situation was a bit difficult to figure out. Beds aren’t super comfy but I think a more firm bed is the standard for Japan.

Comfortable, clean and all you could need for a 1-night stay in Otaru. The main shopping street where there are souvenir shops and restaurants is within a 10-minute walk. Minimal interaction with the staff but they were friendly upon arrival. The breakfast room is a delight with traditional seating on the ground and a beautiful little garden to look out on. We left our luggage there for a few hours after check out too which was greatly appreciated.

The bathroom is very small but it was fine to use with shower, sink and toilet all in a confined space

I wasn't sure what to expect as it was my first time in Japan & at a japanese inn. But it was extremely clean, quiet and comfortable. Breakfast was plentiful, and tasty. I didn't get a chance to use the public bath but will be sure to come back in the cooler months to experience. The location is a short (15mins) walk from the train station but you can also take a taxi which was very reasonable. The canal and a variety of restaurants are within ready waking distance. The staff at the inn were friendly and so helpful. I highly recommend staying at the Plumhouse while you are in Otaru! Thank you!

The only thing I would suggest is that the room could have a few more places to organize your things. Whether it is more shelving or side tables. And a few more places to hang damp towels and clothing. But it is minor.

The rooms were very new and clean. Various amenities were supplied. There was a big fridge in the kitchen that you could store your stuff in. The staff was really nice and friendly. Breakfast with bread, milk and coffee were provided.

The walls were a bit thin. So, we had to be extremely cautious not to make loud noise disturbing others. It would be much better if an extra door to the bathroom is installed such that we could comfortably step out of the shower when someone else is in the room. The parking spots were very limited; we had to park at a paid parking lot a few blocks away.

Otaru is a great location and this is a good spot. Room were clean and the size of those room were huge/awesome (I suspect they used to serve other function has the room had a faucet and induction stove top). As we were staying for more than one day the owner was generous enough to lend the washing machine.

Parking was sometime a bit tricky (only 5 parking spots). On some days we were nervous to be able to park with the rented minivan we had. One of the improvement could be for the hotel to pay in case there are no spots available (to avoid any hunger game situation).

Everything was great! Easy check-in & out. Host explained everything clearly when I got there. The room was in near mint condition & very spacious for the price. His & hers sento each night was relaxing! EVERYTHING was super clean. They let me store my rental e-bike overnight. The food & the space for breakfast we're lovely. 10/10!

Google Maps had issues with getting the location correct, but this is no fault of plum house. Look for the little Inari shrine at the end of a street & that's pretty much the place, lol.

The location of Plum House is awesome! Situated close to everything you need in Otaru. The restaurants and attractions are all within a <15 min walk at the very most, most considerably less. There is on-site parking and a cheap paid parking lot adjacent if it's overfilled. Plum House punches way above it's weight class providing amazing hospitality, thoughtful amenities and excellent access around the town that I never would have expected before arriving. The owner is incredibly kind and welcoming providing any assistance we needed over our three day stay at Plum House. I'd recommend it for anyone who is looking for affordable accomodations in the area. Plum house amenities include; free parking(first come, first serve), breakfast, wifi, and a small onsen open in the evening hours (19:30-22:00). The owner also had discount lift tickets available for Kiroro(Winter 23/24).

Wifi was consistent but slow. Common issue I've noticed while traveling in Japan. Great for loading webpages but videos are hit or miss. Our traditional room was a good size but with 3 adults and ski gear space gets taken up quickly. Bathroom is incredibly small, at 5'8 my knees touched the door. Not really a dislike but something to be aware of. Also not uncommon when traveling in Japan.

The room was a more traditional set up with futon beds on the floor. Location was quiet but with many small bars, restaurants and izakayas nearby. It was also a 10 minute walk to the canal area. The room was very clean. Check-in and check-out process was very quick and easy.

Showers were small. For people used to western style showers, the showers here are very small.
