The genuinely honest staff and host tried their best. They make a plan and 110% effort to host using old equipment! They tried to make us feel as home as possibly could. They are simple people who tried to accommodate 14 people (our group) to the best of of their ability. The Swimming Pool is also fantastic. The scenary is old relaxed. However, the rooms are quiet spacious and will not make you feel cramped. Even though the booking was for a group and yet we were placed in different ends of the houses, the staff tried to accommodate us by moving beds to the cottage and rooms close to them. It would be nice to have all been in one house and not separated.

The place is rather old and rooms need more modernization and maybe some ventilation upgrades to avoid their moist or dampness smell. Truly, some insects have a habitat there, such that they feel as if you are invading their space. Also, the kitchen is understaffed and ran out of cutlery on one of our breakfasts. The place is near the coast (but no direct beach access) and so is very damp, so carpeted rooms will cause discomfort to those with asthma and ninuses. The wooden floors need to be treated or replaced as well. Lastly, you are not guaranteed to have adjuscent rooms. Beds in cottage were not too comfortable but we're bearable.

Breakfast was a highlight—especially their unique, house-made muesli mix, which is truly worth trying. The location is exceptional, offering stunning ocean views, and we were lucky enough to watch whales breaching while enjoying our breakfast. A truly memorable experience.

It would’ve been nice if dinner was available on-site. While the king-size bed was comfortable, it’s made up of two separate mattresses, which creates a noticeable dip in the middle. The linen was clean, though some items had visible stains—this didn’t affect comfort, but it did detract slightly from the overall presentation.

We appreciated finding out about the history behind the Botha House through reading the books provided. It sparked lots of conversation. We admired the beautiful aesthetic of the place and how well kept it’s been for many many years. The staff were amazing!! We thoroughly enjoyed the atmosphere of peace and calmness. Breakfast was great and dinner at the restaurant was absolutely delicious!! We had a wonderful time and can’t wait to return to the Botha House.

My only suggestions are to add a full-length mirror in the family room/cottage and a heater for the super cold winter nights.

Botha House in Pennington (KwaZulu-Natal) is exceptional. The property is immaculate and heritage-rich, with sweeping views of the ocean, manicured gardens and the neighbouring golf course. Staying in what was once the coastal retreat of General Louis Botha, the first Prime Minister of the Union of South Africa, adds a profound sense of place—this isn’t just accommodation; it’s living history. Every space is beautifully curated and kept in pristine condition. A standout choice for travellers who value tranquillity, authenticity and old-world elegance. Highly recommended.

The house is an architectural marvel with stunning views. The rooms were clean and spacious with stunning views. The staff was friendly and very accommodating. They set up a nice place for us to do our sip and paint activities. Day staff and night staff did everything they could to make us feel at home. the estate is close to the shopping centre and the beach. I would totally come back here and recommend to more of my friends.

Everything was really great. The monkeys did cause some minor panic hahaha, because I am scared of them, but that is something out of the property's control. Breakfast options are slightly limited but some very good quality food and good portions. Really enjoyed it.

The Botha is quite isolated , and whilst on some evenings one can eat at the Umdoni Golf Club ( short drive away) and also at the Selborne Golf Hotel ( 3 miles away ) . We discovered that if we gave notice the Botha could prepare an evening meal - but they need to update their marketing to reflect this as an option . Details of facilities omitted that they have hairdryers in the rooms and pool towels are available.

Botha House was absolutely incredible. The authentic historical stay was above and beyond our expectations and we can definitely recommend this place to anyone who loves amazing views and beautiful old charm atmosphere. Charles, the daytime manager was an amazing host, filled with knowledge and the gift of great hospitality. We thoroughly enjoyed our time here on the last day of 2023 and saying hello to 2024 with the most wonderful breakfast outside in an atmosphere filled with incredible views and beauty. Thank you Botha house for an amazing experience.

Our stay at Botha House was exceptional! BEAUTIFUL and quiet location, extremely well-kept property, incredible views, a delicious breakfast, and excellent customer service. Parishka was absolutely lovely and made us welcome as soon as we arrived. Charles then took over for the remainder of our stay and what a treat. He truly made our experience a memorable one. We went diving for the first two days of our stay and relaxed for the remaining two days. I really enjoyed sitting on the porch overlooking the ocean, drinking coffee, and getting some work done on my laptop. My husband and I left feeling refreshed and very taken care of. The golf club across the road has a fantastic and very reasonably priced lunch and dinner - also highly recommend. Thank you for a wonderful stay!

Lovely property in a beautiful location. Our sea view room was airy and nicely appointed, with a lot of old world charm matching good levels of comfort. There are nature walks right on the doorstep, and the golf course clubhouse (also very close by) served up a really good fish & chips!

Let down by the details. Some linen looking threadbare, some parts of the room a little grubby. Staff is really friendly and efficient, but again - the details! No decaf filter coffee (which should be a given at the price), plus little things like serving meal with plastic wrap still on the bowls and orange juice carafe.

I didn't stay longer............ I want to stay long and I understand why your place is always booked, the place is very beautiful, the staff going beyond their call of duty. The owner making sure her guests are well taking care of, I booked so late and last minute and you guys took me in after hours, and for that I am grateful and I am deeply sad I didn't stay longer
