I was fortunate enough to be upgraded to one of the new suites which was very large, beautifully appointed, quiet and extremely comfortable. The finishes and furnishings are all top quality and the rooms and common areas are beautifully appointed. Great attention to detail regarding customer comforts - tea selection, coffee offering in the room, heating/cooling. The staff are friendly and competent. The location is very convenient and the garden setting is lovely. The breakfast offering was excellent and the service in the dining room was welcoming, quick and efficient.

Nothing to complain about at all!

The rooms were huge with a real feeling of being in South Africa. The landscape is beautiful, lots of native trees and lush greenery around the property. I’d recommend the restaurant too, fabulous food and wine. Staff were so friendly and helpful- really welcoming! If you want to avoid the generic hotels and get a real sense of place in a relaxed atmosphere, I’d highly recommend Summerhill.

Basically nothing. Just a few suggestions. A top sheet in the bed. A waste basket in the bedroom or lounge Lastly - it was great to have several tea and coffee options but I like milk in both so it would have been super to have a little jug of milk in the fridge.

Rooms were beautiful and spotlessly clean. Lovely location and very friendly staff who did their utmost to please. Delicious breakfast in tastefully decorated restaurant. Excellent customer service.

There were some issues with electricity/load shedding in our rooms. This meant that phone chargers and plugs did not work during load shedding phases. I understand that this was a short term issue due to an error in a recent installation and the electrician was there the day we left to resolve the issue. It did however impact on our stay as we were flying out that day. We would have rated that property higher if not for this issue.

We were upgraded to a beautiful spacious suite without even requesting an upgrade. The room was gorgeous with all the facilities we needed and with beautiful views of the valley.

Summerhill was a great place to stay. It is very upmarket, but at the same time very friendly. It is beautifully appointed, and the bed and linen was in my room was superb. The staff were friendly and efficient. The location was also very good - not too far for me to travel to the office. The cuisine was also very upmarket, and very tasty.

I would have expected an establishment like Summerhill to have a generator for load-shdding, or at least some kind of eps to keep the wifi going during loadshedding. On my first morning, at breakfast, my omelette was brought to my table promptly, but then got cold while I waited for my toast.

The rooms are a really great size, especially the suites with a massive and comfortable king-size bed. The restaurant is also beautiful, with a log fire burning and divine food. Had a wonderful lamb shank and mash on a chilly evening. Breakfast the next morning was just as good and kept us going the whole day. The front (main house) has stunning views towards Durban and the coastline in the distance, and the rooms in the newer back section have views of lush gardens. This is a stunning place for locals and tourists and much better than many beachfront hotels.

I had asked for and confirmed an early check-in at 1pm instead of 2 pm, but sadly this did not happen and I was left to sit on the patio in the sun to wait. It was also strange that I was first put in a room in the main house and then moved to a room in the second building. The staff tried their best to resolve the situation and house-keeping finally gave me access to my room at 1.30 pm

The staff and owners were so welcoming and helpful. They catered for every need including special dietary requirements. The rooms exceeded my expectations. Facilities were clean, staff were friendly, and food was excellent. I travel a lot, the most memorable part of my journey is the hosting, this exceeded my expectations. I will definitely visit again.

The food was absolutely delectable – compliments to the chef for their exceptional work! The room and bathroom were spacious, spotless, and comfortable, providing a relaxing environment. The staff were incredibly friendly and helpful, going above and beyond to ensure a memorable experience.

The rooms are in desperate need of an upgrade, the bathrooms have broken fittings and cracked tiles. There is no sound proofing in the rooms, you hear EVERYTHING that is happening outside and if people walk past your room at night it wakes you up.
