I loved my stay in Hotel Convento La Magdalena. It's not often the case one decides to stay in a fantastic place in the middle of nowhere. But this time, we had a car, and therefore reaching this secluded place was no issue. The hotel is situated in the middle of the remote hills outside of Antequera, about 10 kilometres away. It's a great place for peace and quiet. And the setting is amazing too: it's a former monastery, now with guest rooms that have all the amenities of a 5-star hotel. The staff was amazing: we had a little issue with the heating with the first room we had, and the way they handled it was professional and friendly. We were moved to a separate room in a very smooth manner. Breakfast was superb: the offerings were top-notch, not to mention the amazing view seeing the hills slowly get colour as the sun rises from beyond the mountains. Overall, this place was perfect for a two-night stay, when we just wanted to be somewhere off the radar. I'd love to come back here in the future, and next time I'll bring my swimsuit.

Nothing - I loved everything!

Amazing location, beautiful building nestled in the hills outside Antequera. Large room upstairs which was comfortable, especially the bed. We ate in the restaurant for lunch and the food was excellent, beautifully presented, creative and delicious. It's a much prettier option than staying in Antequera itself. The spa jacuzzi was great. Car parking was easy.

Generally things could do with a slight spruce-up and modernisation. It may have been out of season but the pool was very cold, the steam and sauna not switched on. Breakfast was made to order and very good but with limited overall choice. The bar area was cold unless you were next to the fire - however most people ate in the restaurant in the evening so we were able to sit by the fire and that was lovely but if busy this would not be an option.

Beautiful landscape around the hotel. The room was spacious and comfortable.

The restaurant is overpriced and the food wasn’t tasty. It lacks staff. Breakfast was particularly slow. Some members of the staff look bored and annoyed. The hotel is in a beautiful location but the room had no view at all and only had small windows so it was dark and even cold inside. The place only has a hint of what it would have been as an old convent; it feels impersonal and lacks decoration details that maybe would give it some charm and a true interesting feeling. Don’t let the pictures deceive you. We were totally disappointed.

Beautiful situation albeit a bit out of town. Lovely historical building superb breakfast and friendly staff. Probably more 4 star than 5 but we had a lovely two day break.Free Spa was a plus and enjoyable, though a little bit tired in places. I.e. the showers were a bit limescaled up, but steam room was excellent.

No tea/coffee facilities in the room and paying 6 euros for some milk for our tea at the bar.

The breakfast was good .

Dinner last evening . We ordered 1 starter to share but the waiter didn’t understand as there was a language difficulty . We ordered baked potatoe but we were given chips . Desert was badly presented . Maybe we should be speaking better Spanish or if our waiter had a little understanding of English it could have been better .

Lovely old building sat in a beautiful location. Nice & quiet with great views of El Torcal. We also ate in the restaurant and enjoyed a superb evening meal.

The air conditioning wasn’t working on the day that we stayed. Additionally the indoor swimming pool is in urgent need of repair & refurbishment, it felt quite dirty and we did not stay in the water long.

Wow. only 5 star in the area. Rates were about €150. Indoor pool surrounded by big windows with steam, sauna, etc. Gardens and gorgeous unspoiled green mountain views. Heritage building several centuries old with archaeologically removed ORIGINAL wall paintings throughout the arcades and cloister, a subterranean crypt, the works. Magic venue don’t miss this. Incredible gourmet dinner experience as well.

Amazing. For the south of Spain there is no better option than this. Absolutely wonderful. Outstanding food, both dinner and breakfast.

Some confusion around weather or not the dog was welcome in the restaurant during dinner and breakfast.

The location is breathtaking. Sometimes hotels do not live up to the pictures when booking but I can honestly say this one exceeded my expectations. All the hotel staff are friendly and helpful. Nothing is too much. Lolly at reception was exceptional . She booked a restaurant for us and wrote a note for the restaurant as they could not speak English and we can’t speak Spanish. The food is good and again you have amazing views while dining. The spa area is also amazing and again the staff there were so friendly too.

Only one little thing. Tea and coffee in the room would be great but maybe that’s because I’m English and we do love a cup of tea in the morning. Also the pool is indoor but not heated so we weren’t able to use it.

Property was great. Personnel very friendly and helpful. Loved that it was away from town and that food was available at the hotel.

Had a little trouble communicating at times. Would have liked a continental breakfast with just some juice and pastry for mornings we don't want a big breakfast.
