Torre Zumeltzegi exceeded my expectations (even more so given the very reasonable price I paid). The hotel is a beautiful historic building, just a few minutes' walk from the centre of Oñati. My room was tastefully decorated and immaculately clean. The bed was extremely comfortable (I slept like a log) and the shower was great. The staff at Torre Zumeltzegi were fantastic: I can't praise them highly enough. They were friendly, patient and helpful and I was especially grateful to Iñigo for the kind welcome and all his recommendations. The hotel offers a good continental-style breakfast and I ate two evening meals in the restaurant, both of which were excellent.

There was nothing I didn't like: everything was exceptional. (However, if you have any mobility issues, it's worth being aware that the hotel is at the top of a short, steep hill with potentially slippery cobbles at the bottom.)

Beautiful place. Stone ,wooden beams but ultra modern. Great views. Friendly helpful staff. I had an excellent t bone steak and nice wine for my evening meal. There was a good breakfast included in the price, a good selection of hams, bread , cheese , cereal . They will also make you scrambled eggs. Make sure to ask what’s included in the price for the evening meal . We assumed it was a la carte but actually there was a fixed price for a “cena “. We would have chosen differently if we’d known this.

My satnav trapped me in a dead end that I had to reverse out of. Not the fault of the hotel! Have a look at Google earth before visiting.

Morning coffee on the terrace overlooking the valley was very special. We had both lunches at the hotel restaurant and the food was excellent. A comfortable room with great views. But one of the best things were the staff. So friendly, helpful and happy even though it was obvious they were working very hard.

The only comment is it is a bit of a climb to get there when walking. We had no problem but it could be a bit much for some. You do not get those kind of views without a hill!

Stunning location in an old medieval tower looking out over the town and surrounding countryside, our room was at the top of the hotel with fantastic views. There was a small honour bar with tea and coffee free to help yourself to and a small selections of drinks at reasonable prices. The restaurant at the hotel was great with plenty of fresh fish options. The staff were friendly and helpful and spoke good english. Breakfast was excellent.

The road up from the town to the hotel is a single track road, very steep and winding. It appeared there should have been a traffic light system for the road but at the bottom it just flashed amber (for caution) and at the top end it was permanently on red. I assume this is not in the control of the hotel.

Well-appointed modern room in a nicely restored tower house. Spacious bathroom. Our room had a beautiful view of the town below.

It's not really a criticism, but the hotel should have a warning that the approach from the town might not be suitable for all vehicles. There is an alternative back road which asends much more gently. K

Feels like staying in a castle…. And has great views. The room was spacious, really cute and quaint but is not for the very tall, or the faint hearted.

Check in was difficult as the staff combine wait duties with front desk. Lugging heavy cases up the final flights off stairs was a challenge too.

The staff at the hotel was extremely helpful. They guided me through the road to exit the town. They also dropped me and my colleague at the factory we were visiting, without extra charges.

A really lovely hotel, in a beautiful town - and with superb views (even in the fog we experienced!). Bonus of apple trees in the garden, and being able to walk up into the countryside from the front door, was appreciated

We found the restaurant ambiance a bit cold (slightly stark white floor etc) although this was compensated for by very friendly, helpful staff

Restaurant very good. Location very beautiful.

No water in the room. Limited toiletries. Honesty bar. The upgraded room had very low ceiling, heavily beamed. Would not suit tall persons.

Noise from rooms above can be a problem if the guests are night owls or early birds but it isn’t a deal breaker
