I did not care for the city of Sarria, with its apparent lack of historic buildings. However, my hostal made up for this lack, especially since it was located overlooking the river walk, probably the most charming thing about the city. There are several good restaurants along this strip, including a good place to try pulpo (octopus). The hostal staff was very nice and professional. Having an elevator is always appreciated, too. My room had a balcony and a bistro set for relaxing and having a drink and snack. The bed was comfortable and the bathroom was great. I rested well here, and loved being able to listen to the rushing river sounds, with my balcony door opened a little at night time.

the location suited me and was in an attractive part of town on the river and with eateries nearby. as it was a key code arrangement I didn't meet any staff but on the phone at 10.00 pm they were extremely helpful and I was most grateful to be able to enter the hotel at such a late hour — although in Spain it wasn't so let that I couldn't find something to eat a few doors up.

the room was really all I could have wished for. there was water to drink, clean linen, a comfortable bed and a good bathroom. great value for money. No complaints!

Central location in Sarria… just off the Camino route. Beautiful views of the river and we all had a balcony to enjoy it! Nice friendly welcome and reception organised a table for us in the restaurant next door which was a great help as we were a group of 17. No breakfast facilities however we located a nice cafe at the top of the steps on the Camino route and we all had a good breakfast to start our day!!

Nothing to dislike

Unfortunately i arrived close to midnight to my lovely room in Sarria. (Due to train changes/sold out etc) but during this process I was communicating with the staff & they replied straight away each time with kindness. The bed was amazingly comfortable! The size of the room was bigger than most & It was super clean! It is situated along a lovely board walk, perfectly positioned on the way to the camino. Thank you again for all your help!

Excellent value for money. Very clean, very well organised and easy arrival and departure. Surrounded by places to eat and drink and yet wonderfully quiet at night.

The only thing: bed could be longer. People 1.90 and over will dangle their feet. I don’t have that problem, but my husband fit just about.

Everything was perfect. The responses to my questions were very quick, and the explanations were kind and helpful. The accommodation was comfortable and clean, and everything was great. There was a hairdryer, towels, and everything we needed, and it was warm. If I visit again, I would definitely stay here again.

No! Everything is perfect!

I was very happy with my stay at El Malecon. My room towards the backyard was very nice, clean and comfortable. The communication with the personnel was very efficient , check -in fast and easy. And best of all: I forgot my Pocketbook, with all my downloaded favourite books in the hotel. The personnel brought it to the hotel in Santiago were I arrived one week later. When I came to my Santiago hotel , my beloved Pocketbook was in my room and I was delighted. So I would like to take this opportunity to thank El Malecon for this fantastic service (I offered to pay for this, but they did all this free of charge).

Loved location by the weir on the river. If you're a light sleeper don't stay here. The water is noisy! I loved it. Restaurants downstairs abuzz in the evening with locals and families. Owners offered a bag move service which went without a hitch, four euro per bag per move. It's about 5 to 10 minutes to walk up to the old town to join the camino. Breakfast wasn't include and unmanned reception. There is a lift.

The location is superb right in front of the river with views from the balcony to a little cascade that is very peaceful to hear even at night when you are in bed if the door is open. The room was of good size with very confortable beds and linens. Very nice big shower. The building is new and everything is spotless. Very nice to have an elevator to bring the backpacks up. Nuria is an excellent host and was very prompt to respond to our questions prior to arrival. She was able to allow us to check in early which we appreciated immensely. We would love to come back!

Nice location right next to the river. Spacious room with kitchen which we can cook simple food. Clean room with lots of windows and light. Even it was a busy street downstairs, it was quiet. The host don’t speak English, she tried her best to communicate with us where the supermarket, the laundry and the place where we can get credentials etc.

As it is a family run hotel, there is no staff at the reception. Need to call the host for help or questions. We were lucky that we can meet them in person whenever we need help. Not a big issue but need to have this expectation.
