We stayed at Paraiso Guest House for 2 nights. It was such a good choice. It is around a 5 minute tuk-tuk ride, or a 10 minute walk from the main street in Ella. The walk is indeed along the railway track, but trains are few and you'd hear them a mile off! We wouldn't really fancy the walk in the dark due to the uneven surfaces. If you can, absolutely go for the king room with mountain view and balcony. The views are just stunning! The balcony is private and has seating and a table. Just sitting there with a cup of tea (or a nice cold beer (available)) was just a dream. A bit like a jungle lodge, listening to the surrounding wildlife. The photos on Booking.com are real. The owner and his family live on site. They are lovely. He arranged for us a day trip by tuk-tuk (by his uncle?) and we saw all of the 'must see' places: 9-arch bridge, tea plantation/factory (a real one!), buddhist meditation temple, various viewpoints. The owner also gave us a celebratory cake as it was our wedding anniversary and arranged a cookery class with Matey Hut (a small restaurant on the main street. Does the best rice and curry ) recommend that! Bed was large and comfortable. Walk in shower room was modern and efficient. Breakfast was European one day, with fruit, egg, toast etc. The 2nd similar, but with hoppers/egg hoppers. Very tasty. He also arranged transportation to our next hotel upon our departure. We enjoyed our stay a great deal. It is worth staying for the views/surroundings alone but it is certainly close enough to the main street (where we dined each evening). The family was friendly and helpful. The room was comfortable. But the views....Wow!

This was probably our favourite place we stayed at on our three week tour of Sri Lanka! Great views, great room size. Very functional with regards a fridge, plenty of wall sockets for charging phones etc . Complimentary water. Great shower. The breakfast was delicious and set up with view. The selection of food and the taste was really special, especially the wee sweet coconut pancake rolls! Having said all that - even better was the family who own/run the place - they are all so warm and friendly - helpful with local knowledge and directions. Great english speakers. They can give you a shortcut to the main 'town' area that makes it an easy walk. I cant speak highly enough about this place.

Short tuktuk ride from the town itself (about 5 mins) is required at night. During the day, easy 15mins walk following the train tracks. The fact that you are up in the hills really allows you to relax and disconnect from the buzzing city. About 2x more expensive than other guest houses, but still totally worth it.

Staff are amazing. Really helped organise our whole time in Ella. It really made the trip so easy and this was my favourite part of Sri Lanka. Even organised a day trip to yala and then transfer to Arugam bay. All sorted by Dhana. Breakfast was also great. Amazing view. Thanks Dhana.

The only downside was the deluxe room we stayed in (like other reviews) had a very damp smell, if this was sorted it would have been perfect stay. But we didn’t feel big enough issue to raise at the time as we spent all day out of the room! Other reviews mention insects but this is to be expected with large glass windows with lights at night. Just keep the doors shut, it’s not bad at all.

.My wife and I recently completed a three-night stay at Paraiso Guest House in Ella, and it was a truly pleasant and calming experience. The room was very clean, spacious, and offered a stunning view of the scenic mountain range from the balcony. The staff were extremely friendly and respectful, especially Dana and his wife. They were very helpful and gave us great tips on local attractions around Ella, which made our trip even more enjoyable. The breakfast served was superb—authentic Sri Lankan dishes, full of flavour and very satisfying. We felt that our stay was excellent value for the money we paid. Dana, a courageous and visionary host, mentioned his plans to open a restaurant so guests can enjoy all three meals at the guest house. This would definitely be a wonderful value addition to an already fantastic place. Highly recommended!

I very much enjoyed my stay at Paraiso Guest House, and I would definitely stay here again! The hosts were kind and attentive, and the view from my balcony was fantastic! My room was spacious and clean, and I particularly liked the large bathroom, which was modern and tastefully decorated. The air conditioning worked well and kept the room fresh. The guesthouse is situated close to the railway line, which was helpful for walking into town as well as to some of the sights. Thank you for a wonderful stay!

The guesthouse is situated a bit outside of town, and during the day, it was easy to walk into town along the railway line. However, at night, I would recommend catching a tuktuk. The benefit of the location, though, is the peace and tranquility! The room initially smelt a bit musty, but after turning on the air conditioning it stayed fresh.

The view from the balcony is absolutely majestic, overlooking the mountains and the train rail winding through the jungle. You honestly can’t stop staring, it’s peaceful, lush, and full of charm. One of our favorite parts was watching the train pass by from the property about 8 times a day! It felt like something out of a movie. We also spotted around 10 species of exotic birds we’ve never seen before, along with monkeys swinging through the trees. The connection to nature here is just incredible. The location is great, you can walk to Mirissa town in just 10–15 minutes through the train rail itself, which is an absolute must. It’s such a pleasant and unique walk, surrounded by greenery. From the same rail path, you can also walk all the way to Ella Rock and Little Adam’s Peak, which is perfect if you’re into hiking and scenic trails. In town, you’ll find small grocery shops for your basic needs and a few restaurants. Tuk-tuks are also available directly at the property, making it super easy to get around. The host and staff were lovely, very friendly, helpful, and always ready to assist. Paraiso is the perfect spot for nature lovers, bird watchers, hikers, and anyone looking to unwind in a peaceful, scenic setting. Highly recommend!

The humidity inside the room was quite noticeable, especially in the bathroom. It felt damp most of the time, which made it a bit uncomfortable. Better airflow or a dehumidifier would really help.

- great location close to Ella town (10 mins walk along the train tracks) but far enough away that it was much quieter - the first breakfast so delicious! - laundry service was reasonable - beds were comfortable, rooms were clean and the staff were all welcoming and professional - they helped to arrange transportation multiple times, which was extremely helpful! - they had hand and foot towels! This seems to be rare in Sri Lanka

- the downstairs bedrooms have glass doors. The lights left on in the family bedroom were so bright! I kept being woken up when my eye mask would fall off. Small curtains to cover the glass would be so helpful - the hotel could be noisy. While the location was very quiet at night (trains only pass around 1x hour during the day), you could hear people walking around and sometimes dogs barking at night. Every noise echoed in the hotel, making it easy to hear everything

Great place to stay with stunning views (so long as the clouds don’t roll in!). Room was clean and had all we needed and breakfast was lovely. You can walk along the train tracks into town (about 10/15 mins) and so long as you have a torch we felt quite comfortable doing this at night. You can also follow the tracks all the way to 9 Arch Bridge and the start of the walk up Ella Rock. Great spot for being close to Ella but still very peaceful.

A blind up the frosted glass door would be good as the room was quite light at night.

Great location, about 5 min drive into the main town and street. From the outside pulling up to the guest house, it doesn’t look like much, it’s up on a hill & it seems they are doing some renovations or expanding up top on the upper half on the building . But we had the room with the tub inside and the room was pretty much like a mini apartment, very big size. There was a little kitchenette and a huge bathroom with shower and tub and also a big balcony with an incredible view of the mountains. The family that runs the guest house is extremely nice and helpful. Nice breakfast in the morning with a view. A little pricey for the area I believe from what I’ve heard after, but I think it is worth it for the amazing view and nice room. At night the whole sky was filled with stars!! :)
