Frangpani Beach Villa is located right at the Tangalle Beach. We came during the low season, so there were only few guests in the hotel and the place was nice and tranquil. It offered us everything we were looking for: a clean room, sitting on the beach, swimming in the pool and the sea. Our room was of the smaller size (comfortable for 2 or 3), but it was just right for us. The owner and other personnel was great and they talked to us regularly about our wishes. The food in the villa was good as well. The Tangalle centre is 5-10 minutes walk, it has shops, additional eating options. Another facility, which was walking distance was a lagoon for some kayaking, bird spotting, which was also walking distance. If you want to spend some quality time on the beach, this place is the right place for you.

The bathrooms could use some upgrading, e.g. there were very few places where to hang the towel, put our own toiletries, etc.

Great little place right on the beachfront with good swimming and a nice little pool. Beds were enormous and the most comfortable we had in Sri Lanka. Owner was super friendly and very helpful about local activities but without being pushy and trying to organise things. Having beachfront bar and place just to watch the ocean with a beer can't be underrated. Loads of good restaurants in the area.

Bar closed at 10, but that might just be for low season. Breakfast was good but would have been nice to have some more local food too like curry and rice but I think the place is more set up for westerners.

This is a lovely hotel set on a great stretch of beach, in a great location. Our room was very large and the beds were very comfortable, only slight grumble was there was no safe in the room and we did not get warm water from our shower during our stay, to be honest this did not bother us too much as it was nice to be able to cool off after a day on the beautiful beach. The breakfasts are large and delicious. The pool is clean, however the hotel is in the process of expanding and the pool area is being used for the building supplies, so does look slightly messy, it will be great to visit again once the building work is complete.

It would have been great to have a safe in our room.

We had a lovely stay at this hotel. The staff were incredibly friendly and always willing to help, which made us feel very welcome from the moment we arrived. The atmosphere throughout the resort was warm and relaxing, and the beach was absolutely beautiful – clean, peaceful, and with a stunning view we never got tired of. Breakfasts were delicious and varied, with something for everyone to enjoy.

One thing worth noting is that a part of the hotel is still under construction, so the area around the pool wasn’t as attractive as the rest of the resort. Also, nearly every day there were local fishermen encouraging guests to join in with their activities. While this was interesting at first and offered a unique experience, it did become a bit tiresome over time. And some days was very bad wifi connection.

Great fresh food, cold beers and not too sweet cocktails. And if the sand and the waves get too much, and you aren’t already staying at the hotel, you can use the pool for free (if you purchase a meal). Friendly, attentive and hospitable staff - that’s really the standout for this place! They truly care about their guests enjoying their food and stay. Also they allow you to pay in different currencies (at a rate better than most banks!) We stayed here for two nights, it’s easy to understand why most people stay at Frangipani for at least a week! Comfy beds, clean rooms, reliable wifi and great food - right on the beach. There’s no real reason to leave! However - the corners of the bathroom could be cleaner

Good location, couple steps from the beach. Swimming pool as well, super close, nice and clean. Spacious room with airco and fan, clean, coffee/tea set and kettle provided. Small fridge under the table. The staff friendly and helpful, they arranged me hair dryer and cuttlery to my room. We got welcoming juice gratis. Good breakfast, western style. Dinner available, bar, sun beds for free for the guests, can get a herbal massage on the beach. We enjoyed our stay!

Can't complain about the room or service, we had no unpleasant experiences there. Everyone was nice and helpful. Food in the hotel restaurant is a bit expensive comparing to other local restaurants. Plus you are charged 10% service fee even if you only order 1 beer at the bar. Would be nice to have shampoo and shower gel in the bathroom.

We stayed 4 nights in January and loved the Frangipani most out of all the places we stayed on our trip. Located right on the beach, it has a real "beach hotel" vibe. You can chill over coffee and watch the fisherman haul in their nets in the morning. The pool is superb and overlooks the beach. There are lots of areas to chill and relax and the friendly staff really can't do enough for you. The breakfast was 10/10 with different things every day and the restaurant food was excellent and not overly expensive. Our room was rustic - not smart - but perfectly functional with a good shower with hot water and a comfortable bed. We loved the outside terrace and the constant sound of the sea. For the money, the Frangipani was the best hotel with the best facilities (and staff) we stayed at on our trip and we can't wait to come back

We liked everything - just for information, there's not a great deal around the hotel. It's a 10 minute walk to the town which is a proper working town not a tourist place. We visited the market and shops which were interesting - and there were a couple of really good bakeries! The tuk tuks are cheap too.

we got the last floor room and the sea view is breathtaking. sleeping with the sound of the ocean almost in your window was an amazing experience. the house is literally in the beach!! the toilet was really good also, with a really good shower. pool included was a bonus! and good restaurant on the ground floor :)

maybe we had bad bad luck, but we had a giant cockroach in our bad. we had to lift the mattress to kill it and it was kinda an uncomfortable moment. anyway, this shouldn’t stop you from coming here. it really worth the money.

Nicely situated, more or less on the beach, watching the fishermen collecting their nets next to us an extra attraction (where a hand from tourists was appreciated). Good food with varied breakfast. Personnel very service minded. The common area, with restaurant, reception, pool, playground, felt like a big living room in an old colonial mansion surrounded by palms. We added an extra two nights to our pre booked three nights and we have recommended a stay to our friends who will visit Sri Lanka in January.

Some intermittent noice from building activities. If you don’t like music around you can be served dinner right at the edge of the sea and listen to the roaring waves and watch the little crabs in the sand waking up after sunset.l

Great location right on the beach with a great choice of restaurants close by. Food was great and breakfast was varied. Staff were very friendly and helpful

We had a family room which was a great size with two double four poster beds but nowhere to put your clothes. No wardrobe or drawers or any surface for unpacking anything, lived out of suitcase. The tiles around pool were lethal when wet. We ate every night at the hotel as the food was excellent, a bit more expensive than lots of places but the quality was exceptional and showed skill however it did take a while for food to arrive
