The hotel was perfect for our two-night stopover for whale and dolphin watching and a snorkeling trip. We chose this simple, budget-friendly place with air conditioning and a pool because we arrived late the first day and spent most of the second day out. The beach, dive center for excursions, and several restaurants are just a few minutes’ walk away (highly recommend Trincomalee Thambi Italian Restaurant for pasta and Cafe on the 18th for coffee and cake). We mostly stayed at the beach, where there are a few free sunbeds at Fernando’s Market. The beach is lively and great for wave-jumping. The pool was clean, pleasantly warm, about 1m deep – perfect for my 7-year-old son. Expectations shouldn’t go beyond the description, but for what it offers it’s excellent. The “cinema” label felt a bit exaggerated – it seemed more like a living room with four big chairs and a medium-sized TV. Overall, very friendly staff and a great stay.

We felt something special was about to happen as soon as we were driven down the beautiful palm-lined drive. We were greeted by the very friendly staff and shown to our large spotless bedroom. Nothing we asked for was too much trouble and everything given was with a smile The ceilings are high, the rooms are spacious. There are large wooden tables to sit at on beautiful verandahs at or overlooking the pool, which is large, very blue and sparkling. Many restaurant options are close by and a wonderful beach is in short walking distance.

The only thng I didn't like was that they don't have a credit card machine. Bring cash, or you'll have to go out and get it. It is worth it!

Great location, friendly staff and nice swimming pool. The location was quite private and also felt safe. Close to the beach and near to lots of laundries, places to eat, ATM, spa places etc.

The air con wasn't great, the lady next door wakes you up first thing firing loud caps to try and scare away monkeys, no bottled water in the room and no shower gel or soap. Room also not in the main building as it looks from the photos (it's behind). Ambiguous breakfast inclusion - confirmation says its included, but it's not and they don't do breakfast.

The rooms were clean, spacious, and well-maintained, with all the amenities we needed for a comfortable stay. The beds were very cozy, and we slept really well each night.the pool was a refreshing bonus, and the air conditioners were a lifesaver during the very hot weather, making the entire stay incredibly comfortable.

We were a group of 9 people hoping to stay together in one unit, but due to unclear room descriptions, we ended up split between two separate parts of the property. It would be very helpful if the listing included clearer details about how rooms or apartments are grouped—especially for larger groups—so future guests can choose the right accommodation more easily and avoid confusion. This place looks very simple but it is very clean and the pool is excellent. I think that the staff and owners work extremely hard here and this is to their credit. We loved Trincomalee and I think it is testament to this accommodation. It worked really well for our family of 5

Our family with two teenagers stayed here - it was affordable and in a good location for us - there is a small supermarket and ATM a short walk up the road. You can buy a local breakfast from the shops next door - fresh fruit / filled rotti. Day to day Sri Lankan life is happening outside of the gates with Tuk TuKs whizzing by, prayer services, cows being led off for their daily grazing. There are a couple of restaurants nearby too. There’s an alley way down to the beach - a 900m walk. It didn’t matter that we weren’t staying right on the beach as the restaurants at the beach provide day beds if you order drinks or food and they have showers to rinse off. We liked it because the location was a bit more “real” yet inside gates it was tranquil with a superb pool area and very friendly staff.

Very good small hotel with an excellent pool. The staff were very friendly and helpful. We had a problem with the air-conditioning on the second day but it was fixed very quickly. Close to some good restaurants. Would recommend Blue Sea restaurant/hotel on the beach and particularly Preni restaurant a short walk away off the main road.

A kettle and cups in the room would be good to make tea/coffee as the hotel didn’t have a cafe/ restaurant when we were there in the low season.

We loved our stay here. Lovely sized comfortable quiet rooms, spotlessly clean. Nice size cool pool, beds available, usually had it to ourselves. Maintained gardens, easy walking distance to restaurants/groceries. Would return and recommend.

Breakfast was not an option and would have been the icing on the cake (but we knew this on booking), so not a complaint. We however found a little local restaurant/bakery next door which we used daily, which is run by a lovely welcoming hardworking man (Hassan), and it cost us around Rs700 total!!

The resort is well appointed. The beach is a short walk away. Local restaurants and a well-stocked grocery store are all in close proximity. The staff are discreet but helpful and the rooms are spotless. The sparkling pool is amazing, and with help from the Trinco heat, it's as warm as a geothermal pool.

The pool area is a little dated. A little imagination, a lick of paint and a few pieces of outdoor furniture would transform the pool area.

The staff is very friendly and they'll help you with anything you need. Our room was very clean and spacious. It has an airco and a ceiling fan as well and a nice balcony. It's also very nice that the hallways on each floor are really spacious with a big balcony where you can chil outside when you want to (or when it is raining). The swimming pool is very big and has really nice loungers. It is cleaned every day and definitely the cleanest, best pool we've seen so far in Sri Lanka. They don't offer breakfast, but that's understandable since there are so many restaurants nearby (literally next door). It's also a few minutes' walk to the beach where you have some nice places to go as well (bars, restaurants, etc.). All in all, we really enjoyed our stay at the Blue Water Beach Resort and would definitely recommend it. 👌
