The hotel is a beautiful colonial building with lovely grounds and swimming pool. It is within easy walking distance of the lovely unawatuna beach and only a short drive from Galle. Although on the main road there is absolutely no traffic noise. Monkeys in the surrounding forest area added to the experience. The section of food at breakfast was very good. We also ate at the hotel in the evening and found the food selection and quality also very good. We would definitely recommend and would definitely visit again. The staff were very attentive and polite. We had a lovely stay at the end of our 2 weeks in Sri Lanka and wished we had more time to spend there

We booked a budget double as this was the only room available and although it was a pleasant room with great sized bathroom and great value for money it was in the older part of the hotel. Next time we will try to book one of the rooms in the newer accommodation. This is an observation rather than a criticism and nevertheless we had a great time here.

We booked this hotel last minute after we were disappointed with the previous hotel we booked. On arrival we had a nice triple room overlooking the pool which was great, but we were stunned to find this was not actually the room we booked and staff apologized that we would have to move the next day. It was a great surprised when they moved us to the governors house which has two full size bedrooms and a huge bathroom. The swimming pool was lovely and it was great to watch all the different wildlife around the hotel including monkeys.

The breakfast is very limited and could use some improvement, but there are plenty of great coffee shops in the town to choose from. The hotel is a little run down and with some loving care could definitely be a 5 star resort, but for the price it was well worth it.

Absolutely loved this place. It felt like a peaceful oasis. The house is beautiful, like stepping back in time. The staff were very friendly and helpful and worked hard to keep the rooms, pool and gardens meticulously clean. We saw lots of squirrels, a troop of monkeys, and just enjoyed listening to the sounds of nature on our verandah overlooking the garden and pond. Breakfast was buffet and plentiful. We ordered a meal there too, which was tasty. Plenty of other restaurants nearby to wander to. Short walk to the beach. ATM and convenience store just cover the road. Quick (but crazy) bus ride to Galle Fort (a must see). Dinner on the beach in Unawatuna also a highlight.

We had an amazing experience at Nooit Gedacht Heritage Hotel! The environment is incredibly calm and beautiful, making it the perfect place to relax. The rooms were spotless, very tidy, and well-maintained. The food was exceptional, offering a wide variety of delicious options. Every meal was a delight! The staff truly made our stay special. They were all so friendly, supportive, helpful, and kind. A special thanks to Santhusha, who went above and beyond to assist us. We truly appreciate his outstanding service! Overall, the hospitality and service were top-notch. We highly recommend this hotel to anyone, especially foreigners, looking for a peaceful and happy vacation. We will definitely be back!

Beautiful old heritage house. Note that this is not a luxury hotel, but it is authentic! The price reflects this, so I cannot understand why people complain. We had one of the cheapest rooms, with a huge bathroom and a lovely veranda. It was clean and the room was cleaned every day. There is a beautiful garden with lots of chipmunks, birds, cute monkeys (a kind I only saw there) and cats. The staff were really friendly and chatty. We ate one at the restaurant, and it was fine. We were the only guests having dinner, as there are so many other places in town. Breakfast was always tasty. It is a short walk to the street with many shops and restaurants, which leads to the beach. The pool was fantastic, clean and set in the beautiful garden.

I had booked with a free cancellation option and wanted to change the dates which was only possible by an increased cost. I contacted the hotel via booking, but it only lead to some confusing answers. However, I addressed the issue upon arrival and it was resolved without a fuss. So my worried were diffused. I think this could be improved, as I was inclined to cancel altogether. Very glad I didn’t, it was amazing staying there

Stunning mansion with beautiful garden and all facilities you need. Good buffet breakfast and chill ambience to enjoy Unawatuna outside the crowded town center. Close to bus station, railway and beach just 15min walk away. Great value for money.

I invite the property manager to have a chat with the tuc tuc drivers (mafia) outside the hotel, insisting on rides for more than double the price. We got the ride canceled as other drivers know the men 'controlling' the tuc tuc rides by the hotel will prevent anybody else picking up clients there. Even after we walked 500 mt away, one of these drivers bothered to come to find us and further threatened that we were not going to get any ride there (I guess this is their "business area"). Not a great experience right in front of a beautiful accommodation. Truly undeserved.

This is one of the best options you can find in Unawatuna when it comes to the nature, service and location. It is a Dutch style resort managed by locals. This is one of the few options where the breakfast is buffet. Tasty food and quite rich is served for breakfast. There is a nice pool where you can enjoy sunbath, if you are too lazy to go to the beach. We had everyday room service and that was a very good thing for us (you have a clean room and towels, water etc.) The environment is quite green in the resort and you can also see some birds or monkeys if you are lucky.

The resort is a little bit far from the sea (12-15mins by walk). Sometimes you just decide to sit around the pool just because of that distance. Be prepared to have cash (Rupees), otherwise they will charge you for very bad rate of other currencies ($, € etc.). The hotel doesn't give you beach towels. If you want one, you have to pay for that (not just deposit).

The new restaurant on the small pontoon in the pond is romantic and beautiful. They came to serve the food promptly, even though the kitchen is far away. One of the most striking features of the hotel is its old, extensive garden. The building is full of character and evokes old times. The hotel is walking distance from Unawatuna beach where you can swim, have lunch or dinner in various good beachside places.

A minor point: the lower bedsheet could be replaced by a fitted sheet because it tends to slip away.

It's great that you can catch a bus to Galle from just outside the hotel. There are also a couple of small stores located close by fron which you can buy water and fruits at a reasonable price.

The festival that was on during our stay (22-26 July) made it very crowded and difficult to get about with my elderly mother. The noise from the loudspeakers which were blaring religious speak was hard to handle as it was constant..

The location was fab very central to all amenities lovely balcony view of the lake. Lovely friendly staff. pool area nice and good towel service.

Sometimes room cleaning wasn’t until late in the day, needs to be earlier and not when you are wanting afternoon rest time. Shower pressure very low and mostly cold water. Awful creaky wooden bed frame very noisy. Breakfast could be improved very repetitive, same food every day. This hotel needs to be updated, having said that, hotel has so much potential. Used spa area, nice but again needs sprucing up and maintenance. Should definitely have a large fan in the reception area which was very hot and humid when guests are waiting.
