We booked 3 rooms at the Hu Yue Hotel in Ita Thao and all of them had fabulous views of Sun Moon Lake. The staff was very helpful during check-in and again when we had to leave early due to a typhoon. They refunded us the last night of our stay without any issues which I really appreciated since we were already stressed out about the storm and having to find other accommodations. The lake is beautiful and there are several different sights to see around the area including a nice walking trail around part of the lake. The breakfast at the hotel was a buffet style with a decent mix of Western options (ham, eggs) and Taiwanese style food.

The food/restaurant options in Ita Thao are very limited so if you are looking for more "Western" options, then maybe try staying in Shuise across the lake.

very friendly and eager to help. for example our daughter had her birthday and Mr Mao drove to the next town to buy a cake and refused to let us pay for it.

Location, the shops and food stalls just at downstairs. We booked deluxe room, the room is big and facing the lake which is really nice. Breakfast is included, served mainly porridge and bread, the spread of side dishes to go with porridge is nice.

Bedroom slipper is non disposable type, I didn’t use it. Platform at the bedding area, so have to watch out steps going to toilet or living area. The room rate is high considering we stayed on Monday.

Our room 703 has a phenomenal lake view. The hotel is nice and clean. Front deck is helpful. If you plan to go Formosan aboriginal cultural village, buy the tickets from front desk to save some bucks.

The parking is not on site. Dropping off your luggage in a super busy market street at check in hour, will be a stressful experience, and army trained speed.

Comfortable bed. Large Shower. Location being right on the main street thru town. View of Sun Moon Lake and departing boats. Upon arrival with your own car a staff member tells you to follow him on his scooter to guide you to a vacant lot parking area about 2 blocks from the hotel. He then offers you a ride back to the hotel on the back of his scooter. Awesome! Best location of any hotel in this town. Make sure you start looking for places to eat no later than 6 pm; everything will be closed except the 7/11 by 8 pm.

Very strict about check-in time being 3 pm. If you arrive earlier as we did, you can leave your luggage in the lobby and walk around, so not a big deal at all. Air conditioner has only one speed and is therefore incredibly noisy. Had to use ear plugs. Breakfast could have had more choices.

Check-in process was really easy. Breakfast had minimal variety but you can enjoy a good view of the lake and a small pagoda while eating. I loved that we could connect and watch Netflix on the TV too haha. The room had a bidet and a functioning hair dryer which is always a plus. Very chill stay.

Can't really think of any cons!

Located right at pier. Very convenient to go catch the boat, rent bikes, go to the old alley market etc. breakfast spread was limited but had cheesecake!

No gym. One lift. A bit noisy until the last ferry leaves on the weekend.

Hotel is right at the Ita Thao night market, surrounded by lots of food. The room offers an excellent view of the lake. Room although is abit old but is spacious and clean. Breakfast is a decent spread of local food and dining area overlooks the lake. Hotel staff are friendly.

Mattresses and pillows are abit too soft. No support for the body

Small lobby area is deceiving as the rooms were super spacious and gave the luxurious vibe. My parents' room on the higher floor had a superb view of the lake. Also appreciated the bidet in the toilet, an added point to the comfort. You can also purchase tickets for the ropeway and ferry rides at a discounted price at the lobby. We left our luggage at the lobby for safekeeping while we explored. Smooth and easy storage and collection overall. Wish I stayed another night at Hu Yue Lakeview hotel.

Breakfast was a little disappointing.

Breathtaking views from room. Breakfast was good. Staffs were all attentative. Room was worth the price. It was a good place to stay and I will definitely stay again.

We stayed in Dec so it was cold and we turned off aircon. There were venting white noise which some of you may be uncomfortable with. The other minus point was the heavy food exhaust/ fried oil smell in the late afternoon/evening from below shops so bad that I wouldn't be able to open my balcony door to air my room nor enjoy sunset with hot cuppa in balcony. The smell would stench my hair, clothes and room!
